bloodshyParticipantAlec Burks had a great game tonight. I think he’d do it more frequently if given the opportunity. With Gordon Hayward injured, Alec got his 4th start of the season. I’ve been furious with Ty Corbin all season for playing Marvin Williams (at the 4) and Richard Jefferson (at the 2/3) over Burks and Kanter.
Burks’ line: 34 points, 3 boards, 5 assists, 1 steal, 1 tov; shot 13-19 fg, 0-1 3pt & 8-8 ft
It was a great game to watch for a Jazz fan. The whole team played great, but their young core really did well. Favors was a beast, Trey looked like a legit pg and Burks looked like a star getting to the rack at will.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantWhat happened to Enes Kanter? He was putting up 17-9 early in the season if I’m not mistaken and then started putting up some bad games. Now he’s sitting on the bench.
Alec Burks has had some huge games, especially early in the season. He showed what he could do and I think he compliments Burke and Hayward nicely. This Jazz team is going to be scary in the future.

bloodshyParticipantThe guy loves vets – skill and/or long-term promise to the franchise are generally irrelevant. Kanter was doing great and showing promise, as was Burks. But then Marvin Williams got healthy and Corbin sent Kanter to the bench. Alec never got off the bench (start) unless Gordo and/or RJeff have been hurt.
I am looking forward to next season when Corbin is fired and the Jazz play rational lineups, giving their young talent a legitimate shot.

Jester87ParticipantIt has nothing to do with Corbin loving veterans. Kanter was putting up good individual numbers, but those don’t mean much. The Kanter-Favors lineup was killing the Jazz, both on offense, clogging the lanes, and on defense, being vulnerable to the most simple pick and roll. In the minutes those two have played together the Jazz have scored a terrible 91 points per 100 possessions and they’ve allowed an even worse 114 points. -24 points has to be one of the worst net rating of any 2 man lineup in the Nba. Probably with Burke they can work a little better on offense than what they were doing when they were both starting, because Kanter has some mid range shot (though he’s struggling this year) and he can step out of the paint, but he still has to work a lot on his BB IQ, he makes a lot of mistakes not only in the low post but also facing the basket and he’s such a liability on D. Marvin Williams is a better fit as a starter next to Favors for now, he can balance that lineup providing shooting ability and he can move his feet on defense. But I’m pretty sure they would start Kanter with Favors again later in the season, especially if they want to get a real shot at the 1st pick in the draft.

butidonthavemoneyHis defense has been poor, and he still hasn’t proved that he’s capable of playing well alongside Derrick Favors. He isn’t much of a passer either, and he is extremely turnover prone when he gets pressured in the post. I still like him, but his benching was justified in my opinion. Williams operates much better in the starting unit, even if he’s really only contributing as a spot-up shooter.
Burks is a similar story. I haven’t considered him Utah’s future starting shooting guard since his drafting. His dominating the ball is requisite to him playing well. Not much of a defender either. Has a great sixth-man profile though.
This summer is going to be interesting. Between two first round draft picks in a loaded draft, Gordon Hayward becoming a free agent and both Kanter and Burks up for extensions; Utah’s going to have a lot of tough decisions to make.

Ahkasi ClayParticipantJazz may be trying to hold down the value of Kanter and Burks until they sign their extension next year.
but this is a fun team to watch
hope they dont screw around and end up missing a good draft pick by winning to many games!
