high floorParticipantFor the Jazz fans out there, what is your opinion of Alec Burks? I like Utah and follow the team pretty closely from afar (Central Fl area…) but I was wondering if any Jazzaholics can provide some context to this guy’s long term value to the team? And just his overall talent as well?
I’ve seen him play 3-4 times in person during his career, and he looks like the kind of guy who could either be an above average SG, or elite 6th man. He’s explosive, can rebound and handle the ball, gets to the free throw line, and can defend pretty well. But he always seems hurt, and his outside shot leaves a bit to be desired.
With Utah in the market for a PG today for their upcoming playoff push, do you think they’d consider moving Alec instead of Trey if it nets them a better player? Just curious

Snyder-PanicParticipantI think the only way they would move him is if they could get Teague. Which isnt going to happen because they want Hood. Burks could be an elite 6man if he would stay healthy.
Is agressive play and relentless attacking of the rim is what got him hurt this last time. I like his current contract given the rising cap. He make 9mil this yr and will max out at 13mil.
He actually led the jazz in 3pt%, before he went down. Not sure if he still does. Although is shot is flat, id like to see him work on getting more arc on the ball.

morestealsthanscoresParticipantHmm, he’s had a few injuries which makes it difficult to project. I don’t think you’d get value for him right now as a result of that – too many question marks and not enough airtime. In general, I like him but I’m not wedded to him – Hood has the 2 spot locked down for the next ten years (hopefully), and we need to see that his 3 point numbers can be sustained, as we’ll need shooters around Gobert and Favors.
So I’d keep hold of him for 12-18 months and see how he progresses. Whereas I’d comfortable moving Burke now,

CodySLCParticipantAlec is the most exciting player on the team to watch. Coming into the season I was sure he would be the starting 2 ( tho Hood has proven himself) He’s got a pretty affordable contract and if he can stay healthy he got potential to be a really good starting 2 guard.
