KingslayerParticipantPer Woj – the deal is for 4 years, $80 million with the 4th year being a player option.
The Spurs are setting themselves up nicely for the post Duncan era by adding Aldridge to their core of Kawhi, Parker and Green. In the meantime, they will be an absolute juggernaut next season and have to be considered one of, if not the top contender for the 2016 NBA championship.

Stop_basketball_nonsenseParticipantExcellent post my dude. I felt he would go there. He wants a situaction in which he is a legitimate title contender, although had rip city stayed together they have become that shortly, but i cant fault the guy. Also mos t other suitors like the knicks, suns, & lakrrs might have had him playin da center spot, i know he can but i dont think he wanted to worry about doing that too much. He’s smart and will play in pops system, one of the best offensive schemes in nba history. Only other thing is I thought he would have gotten more money, maybe he sacrificed to play for the spurs, still worth more than 20,mil with the new salary cap.

Stop_basketball_nonsenseParticipantWith Duncan at the center spot a big upgrade over splitter, and simply still awesome at age almost decrepid, lol, Aldridge doin everything old Duncan used to do, not quite as well, but still he’s all nba in this era. Leonard stepping up, Danny green in his prime, and Parker being the ball distributor, along with pops genius, freakin spurs always a contender for the championship

220ParticipantThat should be terrifying for the rest of the league and anyone who’s a fan of anyone but the Spurs. The Spurs were difficult enough and now to add Aldridge without really losing anyone is insane.

bmac697Participantbelinilli and splitter are still good players and did well in the Spurs system, that will hurt their depth. But adding an all star power forward helps soften the blow. I think he made right choice, Spurs are first class organization and Aldridge will fit right in.

BleedGreen808ParticipantGlad he went there. I remember hearing that he really respected Tim Duncan so it made sense for him to go there. He was impressed when he heard that he could play with Duncan and then would take over for him when Duncan retired. He gives the Spurs a solid duo in the future with himself and Kawhi.

HitsterParticipantThe Spurs have effectively replaced Splitter with Aldridge so that is a big upgrade. They now have a clear post Tim Duncan era path in place built around LMA and Leonard.
The Spurs have seemlessly made this move to remain in contention and somehow always seem to be a step ahead of a lot of other teams.
They can easily add a quality veteran or two chasing a title to fill out their bench too.
Also in this year’s draft the Spurs took a young Serbian 7 footer with a 7 foot 3ins wingspan Nikola Milutinov who no doubt they will leave abroad for a while and probably bring over when Tim Duncan finally packs up.

bobbybParticipantI don’t "love" the deal. Remember Tim Duncan in the past didnt also want to play the 5. Lamarcus saying he doesn’t want to play the 5 spot translates = I don’t want to guard Dwight Howard or Demarcus Cousins. Duncan still can do a good job on those guys but he aint gettin younger and defense takes a lot more engery than offense.
All in all before I get a million negatives, I dont think it is a bad deal, but I think there will be some disappointments with a guy like Splitter.

ExumInfernoParticipantThe Spurs are actually small now, no Splitter or Baynes. Duncan is the center and Diaw is the backup.
That shouldn’t be a problem, and maybe they have help somewhere.
Anyone know if Erazam Lorbek will play, they have his rights. Livio Jean-Charles, or maybe old Robertas Javtokas.
I am sure they won’t have any trouble getting some NBA veteran centers, at the minimum to have a chance to win a title. Elton Brand, E Okafor, Scola, or for something different like a bigger Bonner maybe Bargnani would go for a season to show how his shooting can contribute to a winning team.
Younger players, Withey, Freeland, they have size.
Without Aldridge the Spurs were going to be really good, with him they will be expected to battle with the Warriors for the West. Plus, David West might join the Spurs too.

sitlbitoParticipantHe’ll basically take the Splitter role ,except he’s much more talented than Splitter. They lack depth at this point though, but Parker-Green-Leonard-Aldridge-Duncan? Are you bleeping kidding me????
