ghettosermonParticipantAs a Hawks fan I’m starting to get disgruntled with Al Horford. Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, and Jamal Crawford always get the blame but I think it’s time that Horford get some blame. For a guy who has been an allstar 2 years in a row I expect so much more from him than just 5th or 6th best Hawk on the floor. Against the Magic the excuse was made for him that he was an undersized center vs. D12 and that was valid but against the Bulls in no way is he any smaller than Noah, Boozer, and Gibson who have dominated him. I’m starting to feel like Horford isn’t really that good. What made him great his rookie and sophomore year was that he was the blue collar player. Constantly hustling and doing the dirty work. I just hate the progression his game has taken since he started making allstar teams. He stopped hustling and giving optimal effort, he never rebounds out of his area, when you give it to him in the post he tries to just lower his shoulder and if he can’t create space that way he throws a mild hook shot. He’s basically become a glorified jump shooter. His defense is not even good anymore other than switching on screens. I really feel like he needs to go back to the basics or else he’ll become an extremely overrated player. I’m starting to like Zaza Pachulia in there more than Horford because of the complete lack of effort. Just to clarify I am in no way incinuating that he’s not a good player because he is, but for an allstar I expect more than just being a Udonis Haslem type player on the floor. I guess I never really realized how underdeveloped his post game is, his lack of effort bothers me as he isn’t skilled enough to compensate for that.

JoeWolf1He’s playing out of position. He’s not a center and of course he’s gonna have problems scoring against a guy the size of Asik. Horford is strong, but he disappeared in that 4th quarter when Asik was out there, because he SHOULD be matched up against guys who are 6’8-6’9” or so where he can be the most effective. I’m not shocked at all a 7 footer who can play post D like Asik makes him a non factor. Al Horford is a power forward not an overrated center.

ghettosermonParticipantAsik has not played much this series, Noah, Boozer, and Gibson have pretty much shut him down. My point though even as a PF I just don’t see any sort of post game. His best offensive asset is his mid range jumper.

JoeWolf1Yeah, Asik shutting him down was just fresh in my mind because it just happened, but you’re right. He does settle on that shot, I feel most of his buckets around the rim are caused by his strength and athleticism, not post moves. But you have to figure him playing PF every night his post production would go up because he’d be able to over power more power forward defenders who on average are probably around 20lbs less and 2” shorter than the centers he’s going up against now.

ghettosermonParticipant^^ Zaza Pachulia and Jason Collins are defensive centers. The entire magic series he was playing PF and Smith was playing SF, and he didn’t do squat. He was matching up with Hedo, Bass, and Ryan Anderson and still was relegated to jump shots because he couldn’t post them down consistenty. I just don’t think he’s good enough to trade Smith.

surveParticipantA lot of people will look at Horford and think he is overated because his talent doesnt jump off the screen but it is very difficult to be virtually a double double guy in the league…..year in and year out.
