ChicagoCaseyParticipantI saw one post that talked really negative about the ads on jersey’s that the owners have approved. I have one question, what’s the big deal if ads are on jersey’s? Is it hurting the quality of the game? Is it helping one team, hurting another? Is it give certain players an advantage? It’s no to all of them.
I don’t really see the problem with this in terms of what the owners did and what the uniforms will look like. We live in a capitalistic society, so this move on the part of the owners is smart buisness. This makes the NBA brand stronger globally. The ads most likely will be small anyway, probably on the corner of the jersey.
Again, I don’t see the problem with the jersey that negatively hurt the game and hurt the quality of the jersey.

JordoParticipantMe personally I’m just tired off ads being relentlessly shoved in my face. If i was a business man than yes I’m cashing in on ads. But as a fan it’s like damn everything is "this and-1 was brought to you by Taco Bell"

ChicagoCaseyParticipantIt’s just an ad on a jersey. I highly doubt that they will be saying that after someone scores.
I have to ask you a question, would you like less commercial breaks? What if this allows games to have less commercial breaks?

TheGuyParticipantFor now, I can deal with it, I don’t like it, but’s not really bothersome. My fear and I’m sure many others feel this way is this being a slippery slope; a small patch now, then a bigger patch, then an even bigger patch and eventually the uniforms look like soccer uniforms with the ad the biggest part of the uniform and the team logo now a small logo. The NBA just signed a tv deal worth multi billions! The owners and players are doing fine with cash, plus their could be some conflict for fans with certain brands logo appearing. It’s not like this is going to reduce the amount of tv ads or lower ticket prices. For a league that is probably the most in tune with its fans, this the kinda move that just implies the league doesn’t care what the fans feel.
Again it doesn’t change the game or anything really, I just don’t like how Silver say’s it’s "manifest destiny", no its not you just can’t give any other reason than it gives you more money, and makes me worry this issue will get worse with ads.

ChicagoCaseyParticipantHow does this deal mean that the league doesn’t care about the fans. They have to do deals that will create more money for the league, this move does just that. I don’t really see the ads getting huge spots on the jersey, it might just be one or two on the front/back/shorts of the uniforms.

TheGuyParticipantDid you not read what I said? The NBA just made billions on a TV deal, they make millions upon millions on ads already, the NBA is not in need to make more money, they know this, they also know fans don’t like ads on the uniforms, yet they don’t care. When it comes to this matter, the fan’s opinions doesn’t matter the NBA. Doesn’t mean the NBA as a whole isn’t in touch with the fans.

ChoppyParticipantIts weird. The US seems to be the only place in the world that doesn’t currently have advertising on jerseys. NBA and NFL don’t have advertising yet soccer, super rugby, cricket (not tests), league etc all have advertising on their jerseys. International basketball teams have had ads on jersey forever. I remember watching the Newcastle Falcons (NBL, Australia) play when Ben Simmons’ dad was playing for them and there was advertising even back then. Its not a big deal. Its not going to affect the way Durant shoots the ball, or stop Drummond clanking free throws for example.

220ParticipantI feel that ads on jersey’s except for the small 2×2 latch are just ugly. I hope the NBA never goes farther than the 2×2. I really hoped the ads on jersey’s idea got scrapped altogether, but a 2×2 ad is bearable. I hope all the sports companies buy the ad space and we only see Nike, Adidas, Reebok…ads on jersey’s.

ChoppyParticipantThey don’t look good. Would rather they just keep the status quo. But with owners about to throw marginal players obscene amounts of money with the increased cap, they need to recoup costs somehow… don’t they? Its all about the rich getting richer.

McDunkinArgentina has been rocking Visa on theirs forever and never complained once.
Unfortunately I feel like this is going to look terrible on NBA teams
At the same time here at Mcdunkin Management Association we have Wizkid and Imaybewrong working on designs and reaching out to teams wiling to wear it.
So far we aren’t having luck because for some reason people seem disapointed and expect us to be McDonalds related when we show up to give out presentation…..I think our name mixed with the all expense paid dinner at McDonalds is confusing them.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantSave the ads for the 5 minute commercial after every timeout.

warson24That’s the first step, what could lead at the end to ads in team names. Just like in Europe (where I live), your favorite team’s name can change yearly, because of sponsorship deals. You can’t even follow the domestic league’s standings without finding a "new team". So I wouldn’t be surprised when someday the Chicago Taco Bell Bulls will host the Geico New York Kentucky Fried Chickens….
Jerseys floaded with ads are just disgusting and they are robbing the team’s idendity.0 - Posted on: Sat, 04/16/2016 - 11:41am #1055141

ExumInfernoParticipantKilling tradition. Spitting on what fans want. Selling out to, possibly, corrupt companies. It would have been great if the Knicks had Bernie Madoff as their jersey sponsor.
It has nothing to do with American sports, which the NBA is. The previous exception was auto racing, and if you allow one item on something then soon it could be covered. The court, the jerseys, the post-game interview where the player just thanks all the sponsors. The reported says "You won, how do you feel?" and the answer to the stupid question from the NBA player is "I could not have done it without IBM. The BMW floor was good to play on. The Pepsi Hawks played well but we, the K-Mart Magic, beat them, all thanks to Nomura Holdings."
So they will sell to the public jerseys without the advertising, that just means no fan can get a shirt that looks like the players have. Anyway, I won’t buy a shirt with advertising anyway, so either way they don’t get a sale.
If the players and owners, and Silver, want to sell out and sell their soul to add .0001% extra profit by making the game look ugly, they are not nice people.
Foreign leagues, Europe and Australia and Asia, with advertising all over the uniforms and courts look cheap and nasty and ugly.

llperezI hate the idea. It just looks cheap. A jersey should not include ads. Hell even the ufc banned ads on fighters shorts and walk out shirts because it looked bush league and they aint worth close to what the nba is worth. I watch these games to separate myself from reality and enjoy sports. Even commercials seem to understand this concept and don’t use commercials as simple “buy my product” ads but try to entertain and amuse. But ads on jerseys? nothing entertaining or amusing about it, just straight up money grab. Adam silver is dropping the ball here and putting $$$$$ ahead of professionalism and appearance.
