bluedevils12ParticipantI was reading a post about players in their primes and guys who have yet 2 reach their primes and i wondered just when is a players prime? Is a players prime considered the years in which they put up the best numbers or is it the few years before they reach the age of 30? also dont u guys think injuries factor ino when a guys prime is? Like say for instance a guy who is 27 suffers injuries until he is 31 and then he isnt the same player he used to be; when was his prime? i guess i jus need this cleared up. MJ won many titles when he got older. So when exactly was his prime?

llperezwell, when you look back at a players career, whatever stretch of his most succesful basketball would be his prime. i know that sounds simple, but it’s true. Most players are in their prime betwwen 27-31. That is usually the time when the age has’nt really kicked in negatively and the players had enough time to fully refine his skills. Of course it can very depending on the situation.
As for Jordan, I would say his prime was pretty much throughout the 90’s until his second retirement in ’98. His prime was extnded past 30 because he developed a great fall away jumper and post up game which made it easier for him to reserve energy on the court. You are begining to see Kobe do this same thing with his post game and picking his spots.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantSome people say Lebron is in their prime which I think is ridiculous. He is only 24 and I can see him dominate the league till 32 or something.

llperezNo question he can only get better an dominate for close to a decade. One thing to consider with him thhough is that he is pretty big at about 270 and he relies heavily on his explosive athleticism. As he approaches 30, the weight could start taking a toll if he does’nt improve his overall skills like a post game and fade way jumper from the mid post.

Biased2ShortGuardsParticipantNaturally a persons prime would be the period where they are the most athletic in their life which would be age 21-25…. however, basketball is different… usually when a player is most athletic, he relies more on his athleticism to compete and in turn he may not be as good a player… but when a player’s physical gifts begin to dwindle and he starts to develop a higher IQ for the game, then he is usually more successful… this time period translates to his prime in basketball which would be roughly age 26-32…
But everybody is different… one persons prime may be a little earlier and one’s may be a little later
