llperezso being a ucla fan like i am, i gotta make this thread promoting one of my bruins
Lets start with the #’s
last season: 20.3ppg…3.7rpg…5.8apg…46%fg…43%3pt…83%ft
measured out at 6-1 in shoes with 6-7 wingspan
currently nbadraft.net has him going #28 while espn has him going #17 and cbs has him going #17 and #21 in their 2 different mocks
I think holiday is going to be a steal. He really got a chance to dominate the ball this last year at ucla since he was the main man and he stepped up and showed a bit of everything. He can get into the lane, shoot nba range threes and can shoot off the dribble.
He worked out for the suns on may 27th alongside fellow prospects hamidou diallo, anfernee simmons, bruce brown jr and tony carr and according to media memebers in attendance, holiday was the best guy on the court. Here’s there words, not mine…"there was one who really stood out and that was ucla’s aaron holiday"…"he absolutely torched the competition"…
this dude does it all. He has 2 brothers who are nba vets in jrue and justin who have helped show him what it takes to make it in the league. He has zero character or work ethic quedstion marks and is a vocal leader who gets after it defensively.
his 3 years at ucla he shot 42%, 41% and 43% from three while taking a bunch including over 6 per game this past year so his long distance accuracy shouldnt be in doubt.
I think this guy will be a steal for anyone outside the lotto and yet i routinely see him projected to go second round on some of your guys mocks smh

HobbyOGParticipantHe reminds me of another Bruin, Darren Collison. I think he could have a long career as a rotational player, not a starter on a elite team.

llperezi think its a solid comparison in terms of nba level impact. One thing holiday certainly does better is shoot off the dribble with quicker release which will help in nba. But otherwise they were very similar overall.

OhCanada-ParticipantYeah his release is actually lightning fast. He has alot of potential as a shooter. Hes also a bit of a bulldog and invites physical play. I think worst case you get a Shelvin Mack type backup and best case Kyle Lowry as projections.

festar35ParticipantI certainly wouldn’t hate for my Pacers to grab him, I think he could be a very good, long-term starter.
I like the Collison comparison, but I think that he can be a better defender which is the only thing stopping Collison from being an unquestioned starter. They are both 6’1 but Holiday has that 6’6 wingspan which is ideal. A guy that can put up 12ppg-6apg, shoot a high % and play solid D would be a steal in the 20’s.
(Quietly getting a bit excited about being able to draft him)

RUDEBOY-ParticipantThis year’s draft is so deep that after maybe the first 17 picks. There r about 35 guys that could fill out the rest of the 1st round. Im on board with u about Holiday being a sleeper. And be ready to contribute on day 1.

kobyzParticipanti’ll take Brunson over him, similar type but Brunson one of the most cold bloded/composed i’ve ever seen, has competitive spirit and winning mentality of the highest level…

llperezI always question when guys bring up “winner” or “leader” as their edge. Same exact stuff that got mateen cleaves into lotto and Khalid el Amin drafted. I also remember bill Simmons saying you have to be a complete idiot to take Paul george over Xavier Henry, Henry is a winner from a winning program while george played on a sub par team and didn’t win enough. My question to you is how is Brunson better as a player?

kobyzParticipantDidn’t watch the two players you mantion so i can’t tell in those cases But i know that if you overlook those traits of leadership, competitvness and will to win you can get second round mistakes in the likes of draymond and brogdon etc…
Bronson has similar style and skills set but i just like his mentality and smarts more…

weballin.netParticipantHoliday is more of a scoring option from the bench (like a better passing Eddie House) while Brunson is the true definition of a point guard. Personnaly, I’ll go with Brunson but no doubt Holiday can have a long career.
