TomShoeParticipantThat’s it. The Bobcats are now the worst team in NBA history. Loaded with bad contracts in Matt Caroll, Desagana Diop, Tyrus Thomas, and Corey Maggette. Have almost NO ONE that knows how to put a ball in a bucket, or preventing others from doing the same. Gerald Henderson, Kemba, and Bismack are all very promising, but what the Bobcats need is some hope. A light at the end of this dark, seemingly endless tunnel. They need a hero. There’s nothing they can do now but hope the ping pong balls fall their way and that savior comes through the draft. In the meantime, say a prayer for the Bobcats, they really need it.

aamir543Participant^Thank you for that, I don’t mean to be ignorant at all, but somtimes you look at the contracts GMs dole out like giving 20 million to Darko and you think to yourself that you could actually do a better job than that. I might be wrong a lot with my predictions, but I’m also right equally as much.
That’s why I’d be the first one to snag Aaron Brooks from Phoenix with a low ball offer like 3 years 11 million(even that might be overpaying by market rate, but the man can ball) instead of paying Dragic 40 million. Or be the one to screw the Bulls over by offering Asik 25-30 million even though he isn’t worth near it but I know the Bulls would match. Or I’d take a lesson from RC Buford and keep a stash of prized Euro prospects, bring them over, and slowly work them into my system, and take a book from Daryl Morey’s book and take chances on lotto castaways like Jordan Hill, Hasheem Thabeet, Terence Williams, and Johnny Flyn, unfortunatly none of those worked out, but at least he tried, and he sort of did the same with Brooks. His value had diminished considerably, but he was still able to get Dragic out of him. As many bad GMs there are out there, there are several good ones, and we could always learn from them. And congrats on 20k McDunkin.

UNCbasketballbumParticipantI actually feel pretty bad for the Bobcats. North Carolina is prime basketball country with ACC schools Duke, UNC, Wake and NC State so close by. Charlotte is a nice, vibrant city. Cam Newton is the man in Charlotte now with the Panthers and the Bobcats REALLY need the first pick so Anthony Davis can join him in the Queen City.

PulseGlazerParticipantThey’re a bad team, but this is the NBA’s fault for rewarding futility. Imagine if a team like the Rockets had a near equal chance of a top pick? The league would be so much more fun with so much changing. Guys would have to scout and develop steals and use free agent money properly and collect assets to contend. The league would be better.

omphalosParticipantBobcats won’t get the first overall pick, I see them dropping to second, which is a nightmare for Jordan, because there is really no consensus on who should be the second overall pick.
Also, I find it hilarious that the same people who were suggesting the Bobcats rebuild and try to find a franchise player are now ragging on them for doing a damn good job of it.
Yes, they have some awful players, but Henderson is an average starter at the very least, Walker is decent, and Biyombo is showing flashes of being Serge Ibaka in a couple of years.
Losing at a historically bad rate is a moot point when the team is rebuilding, if you’re a team like the Bobcats that has no players who have the room to develop into franchise players, the easiest way to get one is through the draft.
The Kings should be more laughable in my opinion, having Cousins and Evans but still making no forward progress in the win column.

CynthiaParticipantEven if they did land Anthony Davis I’m not sure it will help them all that much. It will help them defensively…but they still will struggle to score, and you have to score to win…So maybe dropping out of first and getting MKG wouldn’t be that horrible of a situation.

UNCbasketballbumParticipantI dunno if MKG would be such a good fit in Charlotte. Love the guys energy, athleticism, hustle and defense, but he’s raw offensively and the Bobcats really need a shooter/scorer IMO. I like Barnes to the Bobcats, North Carolina guy, but number 1 or 2 is too high for a 2nd or 3rd option at best. I guess we shall see where the ping-pong balls land.

I would say if possibly get some free agents but then I was thinking what free agents are going to want to come to Charlotte. So am thinking that possibly that if the Bobcats get the first pick and take Anthony Davis he might be traded for whoever selects harrison barnes.

Johnny ChillOnly a Tar Hole would have Harry Barnes in the top 3 of the draft. In fact why would a team draft a 3rd option in the top 5? Catch and shoot players are easier to find that low post scorers.
The Bobcats need a low post scorer to pair with BB. Mullens is a big man that shoots from the outside. Thomas doesnt have any offensive game either.
Best fit for them is Robinson or trade down and get Sully.

aamir543ParticipantI get what Pulse Glazer is trying to say, that it’s mind boggling to see teams like the Bobcats and my Dubs to botch pick after pick after pick, while teams like Houston and San Antonio find better players in the second round, however I feel that you have to keep it the way it is, even if futility gets rewarded. Without that, the bad teams would never get better, which is why as much as I am opposed to tanking(I don’t mean to sound hypocritical here, because I know I’m an advocate of tanking if your not a legit contender, however, I don’t like hte concept of teams throwing away games, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think it shouldn’t be taken advantage of), I believe you have to have hte system weighted, or like the NFL does it, do it by record. I know tanking is an issue, but that way the Bobcats might end up with the 14th pick, and a team like the Rockets might get Anthony Davis and they would instantly be able to be decent now while also having a major cornerstone for the future.
And I’m editing my post right now, so I can’t make sure whether it was in this thread or another, but Gerald Henderson is not the cornerstone of ANY franchise, just trying to make that clear, he’s a nice player and could be a role player for a contender in the future, a guy that puts up 11 points off the bench, but he should not be in any franchises’ long term plans as a franchise player or anything close to it.

PulseGlazerParticipantBad teams can get good through good management and shrewd signings. The Pacers and 76ers are too easy examples of this. The Heat got Wade at #5. The Lakers got no one early in the draft. The Knicks used a bunch of mid-first rounders for Melo and signed their other better players, or made shrewd moves. Building only being done through draft luck is a myth.
