Lotto StudParticipantIf Wall was rated the #1 overall PG coming out of H.S. why wasn’t he invited to the McDonald’s game? That’s just something I never understood.

Charlie SheenParticipantHis grades were probally low or because he would of been 17 when he graduated he took an extra year starting his Junior year b/c once you start your senior year as an athlete you cant play unless you prep so he took the extra year probbaly was a Junior or Sophomore twice. so his 4th year was as a junior so he couldnt play and his senior year was his 5th year so he was still ineligible

WizardofOzParticipantIt’s not because he got bad grades. It is because he transferred to another high school. When he transferred to Word of God, he had to re-due a year.

champTRiceParticipantIn high school sports, you are allowed to participate in sports for 5 years in high school. A lot of athletes both black and white take advantage of this to allow their games and bodies mature before being recruited for college.
Word of God Christian School is part of the NCISAA which is the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association. He transferred to Word Of God during his 10th grade year after he was cut from his public high school basketball team. By quickly transferring to Word of God, he saved a year of eligibility. He then spent that year as a freshman instead of a sophomore and then next season was his 10th grade year.
In the NCISAAA, a student can only participate in 6 semesters (3 years of athletics) after the beginning of their sophomore year. The 6 semesters only start when the student arrives at the school. This is the case at most private schools around the country. If you enter the school from a public school before your senior year, you can repeat a grade to gain an athletic advantage for the future. It also helps academically because they can retake courses that they earned bad grades in before or even advance to higher level courses than they would have previously reached.
“Students may participate in athletics in no more than six consecutive semesters or nine trimesters after enrolling in the 10th grade of any NCISAA member school, no more than four consecutive semesters after enrolling in the 11th grade of any NCISAA member school, and no more than two consecutive semesters after enrolling in the 12th grade at any NCISAA member school, regardless of whether he/she remains continuously enrolled.”
If you saw a list of the athletes, male and female in the major sports who have taken 5 years in high school, you would be very surprised at how many people do it. It is an advantage in being recruited and preparing an athlete for the next level. Picture it as redshirting but still getting to play.

Afactor4ParticipantIve always found it odd that despite being an early 1991 born person. Eventhough there’s plenty of freshman in this years draft, I think the only two people younger than me are Derrick Favors and Xavier Henry. Heck Whiteside is born in 1989. He’ll be 22 sometime at the end of next season.
I was always under the impression that December 1990 was the national cut off date lol. Still freaks me out though now that I will see players actually my age in the NBA next season .
