When the 76ers lost in 2012 to the Celtics after being the 8 seed, the front office decided to rebuild. The Iguodala, Holiday, Evan Turner, Thad Young core was not good enough to win a championship. Now after a couple years they are still rebuilding and recently traded Carter Williams the former Rookie of Year. However, I think Hinkie decided MCW’s potential was not as high as potentially Russell or Mudiay in this years draft. If they draft a point guard this year. Their core would be Russell, Noel, Embiid.

In 2016 there are not many elite good point guard prospects but many elite Small forward/ Power forwards. in 2016 they own their pick and the Lakers. The Lakers will be better next year but proably still not a playoff team maybe the 10th worst record. If they get another top 3 pick they could draft Ben Simmons/ Jaylen Brown and with the 10th pick Malik Newman, Levert or Blakeney some good SG prospects. by the end of 2016 the 76ers could have a core of

PG- Russell SG- Newman SF- Simmons/Brown PF- Noel C- Embiid

Bench: Sariic, Wroten, Thomas Robinson, plus 5 second round picks 2015.

This core would be incredibly talented and if everyone develops together this team has superstars and championship potential for years to come. Thoughts?

You’re putting the cart waaaaaay before the horse. I would say just focus on this draft and off season, try to bring a vet who can contribute and help the team grow in free agency. Pray Embiid stays healthy. Honestly was Russell this highly thought of back a year ago? So 2016 draft will cross that bridge when they get there. But for now Philly should start to look actually put a somewhat young and rebuilding but still competing team for next season and hope you make some progress. Because I honestly don’t think Philly can handle another season of being the worst team.

I agree that they wouldn’t like to have one of the worst seasons again. Bringing in veterans would help and the Russell, Noel, Embiid core is very promising. Just likely they have 2 lottery picks in 2016 and that is very promising and can help them add more potetntial stars to their roster while alot of people seem to think management is lost with no plan. This would be the year to take a potential star PG in Mudiay/ Russell and 2016 management should forsee weaker elite points and more elite wing prospects in 2016. Even besides Simons/ Brown (very top prospects) I like Ingram and Pope personally . Future does look bright Philly

I’m not sure how you can say it looks bright at the moment. Embiid has yet to play a game and could be injury prone like Oden, and you still don’t know exactly what he’ll be in the NBA, he’s yet to prove anything. No clue who Philly will draft, and won’t know until next season how good they are. And these guys you talk about in 16, I bet people were getting super excited for Cliff Alexander last year, so honestly it’s just guessing at this point so don’t bother. There’s hope, there’s a plan, but there’s still a lot of unknowns with them. I’d say the future looks bright for Minnesota, Orlando at least they have a good young core.

    That’s the hope right?

I kinda hope the whole plan does work myself. So many people seem downright offended by the process the 76ers have taken–"tanking for high picks"

Yet I seldom see people complain when teams like Miami (before they signed their big 3), New York and LA all purge their roster to go big game hunting in free agency, essentially striving to short cut the system and become contenders overnight.

Will it all work? Thats the question. I’ve still got questions about Noel, but he’s shown he can at least be a very good defensive player. I love Embiid and if he can stay healthy he could be a franchise piller. Staying healthy is not to be taken for granted though because we’ve seen potential dynasties – most recently the Blazers – ruined by injuries. If they take Russell or Mudiay, thats another high level piece and they should have plenty more bites at the proverbial apple in the next two years both high in the draft and in the 2nd round swinging for the fences there.

I would be fine with Russell or Porzingis or Hezonja.  Assuming there are never any busts in the draft I think all three of these guys project as scorers at he next level.  Perhaps Russell is more play maker.  Anyway Sixers need scoring and if they want to build the team around four talented bigs in Saric Noel Embiid and Porzingis with a distributing PG and a lot of shooters then I say sure why not. They already have a bunch of athletes that can defend. Didn’t even get into all the cap space they have.

mad max. This is a Sixers rebuild thread. You posted twice but failed to provide any insight.  If Embiid is healthy then they have the best young core in the league.  And its not a big if.

I’m open to them drafting Russell and finding his back court mate down the line via Draft or Free Agency(maybe through some serious cash at Brandon Knight or Reggie Jackson)

I’m also open to trading the 3rd pick for Mario Hezonja and a young PG like Collision, Lawson or Jennings…I have been very high on this Kid all year, he and Russell are my favorite prospects in the draft, I just think they a few holes to fill and the 3rd pick could be used to fill one or two of them…

IMO the more I see of Hezonja the more I want him in Philadelphia next to Saric, Noel and Embiid, we’d just need to find our scoring PG and a spot up SG, maybe we can sign Knight and Green from Phoenix…

I think we have a few real Gems in Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid, I believe can have a lot of two way potential, if they can both avoid major injuries they can bring this city a Title before they retire, Noel has really surprised me, he is a defensive savant, and he has a very underrated skill set, he can handle and pass the ball well for a player that stands 6″11 and he moves so quickly, if he can improve his jump shooting and add a few post moves he can become a KG like PF/C, Joel will step in with a solid combination of skill and will only get better, I can see him controlling the paint better than Hibbert defensively and had the potential to be very very good on Offense…Saric should be a very versatile Sf/Pf off the bench, a tough nosed rebounding play maker from the F position who could stand to improve his outside shooting to become one of the leagues best 6th men…

This year and next year will be pivotal to the rebuild IMO, getting a few Guards this year is a must, Russell and Player X in free agency make sense, Hezonja and Lawson makes sense too, either way I’m happy with those two options…

Let the 2016 Draft Class arrive on Campus before Mock drafting them to Philly and let’s try to sign a Young G…I vote for Brandon Knight or Gerald Green

The more I think about Mudiay v Russell, the more I feel as if the Sixers might be best off considering Justice Winslow at 3. SG is by far the hardest position to fill in the NBA, but this kid has just as much skill and tools as Mudiay or Russell. He’s got the size, athleticism, and competitive nature to be a star on the next level at a much harder position to fill than PG. I’d much rather go Winslow at 3 and use some of our young players, future picks, and other assorted assets to trade back into the first and grab Cam Payne or maybe get someone in FA that fits the scheme.
