Reports suggest the 76ers are for sale.

The team has officially denied them, however I doubt they’d say otherwise in the event that it was true.

The story goes that the owners have franhises in other major league sports, and would be interested in starting an NFL team in London.

Philly was sold for $210m in 2011, and are now valued at $700m

    Thoughts?

Anyone who is aware of what Josh Harris has done and continues to do in order to build his personal fortunate knows that the Sixers are always for sale at the right price.

the NBA & Philadelphia is a major media market….. It would be nice if someone w/ local ties who cared about the history of the team, purchased the franchise, invested in developing a proper infratsructure & returned that franchise to prominance…..

we understand they are pitiful, but trust the process!

Next year our roster is going to look different.  A lot more talent.  Embiid and Saric and 1 to 3 first rounders.

Everyone was making noise about Hinkie and trading away MCW and how that impedes the process.  Well, that MCW trade may have become Jamal Murray or Brandon Ingram at 4 (if the Lakers give their pick to us).  The problem is, its all a crapshoot, I agree with that.  Paul George was not the #1 pick, Michael Olawakandi was.

Anyway, GSW all anyone talks about is how good they are.  Not how bad they were a couple of years ago.  We’ll be fine.  We got blown out by 51 against San Antonio.  So what?  We’re supposed to suck this year, and frankly, I want them to have the greatest chance with the lowest record.  The last two years they picked at 3 and definitely did not finish last in the league.

Hey, so we don’t have the veterans to teach us how to win.  Thats fine.  Thats the plan.  Thats what Hinkie and Harris both wanted.  Thats what the Phillies have started to do. You rebuild and you amass talent and try to get lucky by drafting a franchise player, instead of running Jrue Holiday and Evan Turner out there.

I’ll take this any day.  Next year we’ll be better (definitely if Lakers pick falls to us and we get both Murray and Simmons).  I’ll take Brandon Ingram as a consolation, but then we’ll suck again next year.  Not the worst thing in the world.

I hear you. Hopefully Embiid is healthy and Saric comes over but we pretty much already have three, yes 3, 1st round picks. Our own and the Heat and Thunder picks will convey to us this year barring any catastrophic injury for either team.

We have to wait and see how the ping pong balls bounce for us to get that Lakers pick but if it conveys this year and we have 2 top 5 picks, tanking won’t look so bad.

If the ownership group does sell, whomever does buy the team will have to trust the process. With the salary cap going up; as long as the new ownership doesn’t waste big money on past their prime free agents or overpay a 2nd or 3rd tier free agent things will get better.

those are 2 big IFs.  From a historical standpoint, just dont see Embiid being a durable 82 game player.  I personally dont think Saric is coming next year despite his recent comments.

Trading MCW will not result in getting anything at #4 from the Lakers.  If the Lakers get 1-4, they keep the pick, and the Sixers only get the pick if it is 5 or higher.

The pick is top 3 protected this year and next year. So the 76ers get the pick if it’s 4 or higher.

An NFL team in London? I don’t think so. NFL players complain about travelling to Toronto for one Bills game a year and dealing with the atmosphere change there. I don’t think a team in London overseas is a rational idea before integrating Canadian culture.

It’s going to happen sooner or later. That’s why there have been so many NFL games there in the past few years. That’s especially why the Jaguars have played there so many times–they’re trying to build a fanbase.

The value of the Philly franchise could rise strongly if they get that franchise player who can push them back into relevance so I’d guess Josh Harris might hold fire on any sale for a bit. But if he could make a 250% profit then he might decide to cash in.

I wonder if there is more to Jerry Colangelo joining the franchise than meets the eye, have the NBA asked for him to be put there to oversee any bids I wonder. Jerry has owned major franchises and would be able to make a recommended decision on who a prefered bidder may be.

As a Britain, NFL games in London are a nice event 3 times a year and there would be capacity to host a team at a number of stadiums but travel would be an issue mainly for the London based team. With the NFL always running a less is more ideal – limiting the season to 16 regular season games, only 12 teams in play offs as opposed to 16 in the smaller leagued NBA. I think that there would be far better expansion areas in America and even Canada rather than all the way across in Europe.

It is worth noting that Josh Harris recently bought an 18 percent stake in Crystal Palace soccer club in South London. My hunch is that Harris and the NJ Devils owner who also bought a stake in the club are looking at Crystal Palace’s need for a new stadium and are trying to devise a way to maximize the potential return on that kind of expenditure. If they can host an NFL team, or more likely just some NFL games every year, then it helps justify the expense. I’m sure Harris and David Blitzer are probably also aware that Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan bought another London-based soccer club in Fulham when they were in the Premier League for a hefty price, and then saw the club get relegated (and with it all the money that comes with being in that league). Even if the club does well this year, there is no guarantee of its success two years from now (and there is no Sam Hinkie Super Genius plan to rig the game in European soccer). The NFL does not relegate, so there is no risk in those games becoming less important (though the games that have been sent to London tend to be the least important games possible). If the NFL ultimately thinks they want 8 games per year in London, they need the facilities to accommodate. Wembley is not made for American football, players and coaches have complained about it, and probably more importantly the English National Team’s coach has complained about the condition the NFL leaves the field. Soccer runs the show there, and that is why the NFL is looking elsewhere. They signed a deal with Tottenham Hotspur to have their new stadium host two NFL games per year with a system like Arizona where the playing surface can be moved so that both sports can be accommodated. That stadium has been talked about for years and still yet to be finalized. It is possible Harris and Blitzer think they can either beat Tottenham to the punch or host some of the other London games. Don’t forget, even if the stadium can accommodate two sports with two different playing surfaces, they cannot be played at the same time, and they are both weekend sports. As a result, a second viable stadium is likely needed.

As for him selling the Sixers, it makes sense if he needs to raise the required money for a stadium (and in the less likely scenario an NFL team), but it is not an issue that would occur today, tomorrow, next week, or next month. Any new stadium in London that could accommodate NFL games would take years to come to fruition. In the meantime, he will continue to profit from Philadelphia’s low payroll and shared NBA money.

I’ve seen some opinions on here doubting the NFL will have a team in Europe. If the NFL wants something, they get it. The fans, NFLPA, media, etc. can all say what they want, but they can’t do anything about it (except the NFLPA at the next CBA negotiations but even then, as we’ve seen before, it’s always billionares vs. maybe millionares) if the league wants to set up shop overseas.

If Golden State wins 76 games this year then the two teams should switch names.

The Golden State 76ers and the Philadelphia Warriors.  Just like in the old days…

Then Philly can wear some REALLY retro uniforms.

Or, have the Sixers trade name with the Rockies.  Then you get the Colorado 76ers, and the Philadelphia Rockies.

Or, just keep the current name, acknowledge their large roster of young guys (who can barely play) and call themselves the Philadelphia seventeen 76ers.

I honestly think that the only single player coming in over the next two years that I see the next superstar in for this team is Josh Jackson. Dont really see immediate impact players in this years draft that have amazing upside for this particuloar team outside of Simmons & Murray and even those two have some questions around them. Jackson is a stud tho.
