kobyzParticipantEmbiid, Okafor, Noel and Saric, 4 great young bigs for the future, this has to be exciting! Only to have Noel and Saric is fantastic both all star talents but then you have Embiid and Okafor who with much more potential, very well can become the best frontcourt of all time, insane! But now how they address the backcourt situation?

Rip255Okafor looked pretty disappointed he was heading to Philly when he was being interviewed.
Why was that the case?

ChicagoCaseyParticipantI don’t believe Joel Embiid will be there. I believe that they should offer trades for young point guards. I mention on a previous post that I believe they should offer a trade to the Boston Celtics for Marcus Smart and James Young plus a future 1st round pick.

juves4783Participantthat’s a lot to give up for a guy that hasn’t played a game due to a year long foot injury. big guys with foot injuries don’t seem to work out for long in the nba. going into the draft, i heard boston offered smart and their 2 firsts for noel and the 3rd. in hignsight, i wonder if the 6ers would taken that trade if they knew the lakers were going to get russell.

trombonematrix43ParticipantRegardless of who the Lakers took, there is no way the 76ers would ever make that trade.

NBAjunkie81Participantpicks in 2016 so that’s Six total 1st round picks & they offered Phila ALL 6 of them PLUS Young, Smart & Two other players for Noel & the # 3 pick (this was before the Draft when everyone assumed the Lakers were going to be smart & take Okafor) & the Sixers correctly turned them down… Boston totally screwed themselves by trading Green & Rondo for players Isaiah Thomas & Jae Crowder instead of taking even more draft picks & continuing to tank the season…. All the major media outlets are dumping on Phila b/c what they are doing is scaring the hell out of the whole League… Phil Jackson just did a 1/2 @ss imitation of what Hinie’s been doing for 26 months & espn is bending over backwards kissing Jackson’s rear end… And you can bet that if the Lakers were doing the Phila plan it would be called genius.. Can you imagine if Phila accepted that trade & Okafor fell to them & they landed Noel (who put up IDENTICAL Rookie stats to Anthony Davis & Okafor) & Okafor – Every media outlet in the country would be calling Aigne a Genius! Phila was correct to reject that trade offer & Any other for Any of their Big men & i wouldn;t care if it took Embiid 3 years to get healthy – you are talking about a Level of Talent w/ All Time great potential…. Shaq took the Lakers to 4 Finals in 5 years w/ Derek Fisher at starting at PG… I think Kris Dunn would be a Perfect fit for Phila at PG – he’s a WAY better prospect than D’Angelo Russell… Dunn is mature, team oriented, pass first, excellent size at 6’4” 200+ Lbs, Excellent athleticism…. Russell is a kid, he played at less than 180 lbs, has Zero athleticism which means he can not create his own shot, can not guard anyone & is very immature…. Boston screwed themselves to the Land of Mediocrity which is a death knell in the NBA… They were hoping Phila would be foolish enough to bail them out but the Entire point of suffering through these rebuilding seasons is to have a lottery pick in the top 5 & you Never trade that pick & you Never draft for need… You take the absolute best talent available… ask Portland how well drafting for need worked out when they took Sam Bowie instead of Michael Jordan b/c they already had Clyde Drexler then they did it again in 07′ when they took Oden over Kevin Durant b/c they drafted Aldridge in 06’… And ask the Houston Rockets who Drafted Hakeem the Dream even though they had taken another 7 footer Ralph Sampson the year before & they played the same position… Having TOO many Great players at a position is a GREAT problem to have….

Willfb3ParticipantTrading him now would be a very poor decision. His value is as low as ever. You don’t trade a guy who could become one of the best players in the NBA for cheap. They’re not going to be looking to win next year anyway so they can afford to be patient.

TrillaParticipantSure its interesting to have all these bigs, but as a fan last night i went into the draft finally expecting to come away with a direction. Whether it was Russell, Mudiay, Henzonja, whoever I thought after this draft i knew where the team was headed. Now? No idea. I dont know how these 3, when healthy, play together. I don’t know why they dont try to trade up into the late first to get a guy like Hunter, who could be the first 2 guard who could legitimately play on the roster. Or why they took 4 more bigs in the second round. It for sure isn’t exciting right know, and I dont know how I can ‘trust the process’

sweaterflexParticipantIt isn’t like Hinkie to sell low on a player, so I doubt he trades Embiid. A Noel for Smart and Young trade seems much more likely.

vulture711ParticipantThey have filet mignon bigs served with a plae of fritos abd scraps from the floor. Saric – I find him ever playing for the team dubious and he most likely forces a trade saying he’ll never play here. Big J not sounding thrilled ? Why would he be – and I’m a Sixer fan – why would he want to platoon with two other bigs when so many teams need a center. If anyone is dealt it likely is Noel

HitsterParticipantA 3 man big rotation can work easily and don’t forget Utah drafted Kanter when they already had Jefferson, Millsap and Favours.
Philly have a load of cap space and are a larger market team so would be a reasonably attractive option for some FA’s. The very top guys want to go to the very elite teams but the next level down would surely consider Philly. Also if the bigs do click then the team becomes an even more attractive option.
Philly can effectively offer ball handing role to any FA which would be an attraction to a lot of playmakers.

VRod305ParticipantYou have to take the best player available regardless of position. A few months ago, I didn’t like the idea of Okafor, now I do. No ONE plays just two bigs for a full game. You have to have three or four guys for that total of 96 minutes. Embiid isn’t playing more than 30 minutes a game. He didn’t do it at Kansas and he won’t do it here.
You can play Embiid 30 minutes and Nerlens/Okafor 33 minutes each. Next year we have four picks in the top-20. Say we take someone like Ben Simmons and sign Lillard as a RFA. You have Saric, RoCo and some combo of draft picks next year, Jerami Grant and Jordan McRae off the bench. That’s a 50-win team.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantEveryone is overreacting to this. If Embiid’s foot is bad, then no one will be able to question this pick. They went BPA who has a polished skill set and a high floor. They’re not going to get much better this year anyway, regardless of who they drafted. I don’t see an issue with taking Jah
Guards: Murray, Newman, Blakeney, Dunn, Trimble, Hield
Brown, Ingram, Simmons, LeVert on the wing

HitsterParticipantNext year’s draft looks very PG light at the moment so I think Hinkie will look to get a decent FA PG in. A team like Philly would ideally want a real pass first PG who could control the tempo for a young team and can find the best options on court.
There are a few options out there, with Denver taking Mudiay, I wonder if Ty Lawson could be on the block. It would depend what Denver’s asking price would be, if they would take the pick via Lakers and Phoenix next year I feel that Hinkie could make the deal.

Try to get the 3 best big men in basketball. Then you got Tony Wroten breaking it down.

benny15ParticipantLet’s say embiid is injured and can’t play this season, okafor and Noel is a am excellent big man combo since their respective strengths covers each others’ weaknesses. Now let’s say Joel is healthy, you suddenly have two talented young bigs you can parlay to a talent that is a better fit.
Houston just kept collecting assets up until the James harden trade opportunity and they were suddenly in a great spot to get him. For all we know jimmy butler in Chicago can play out in a similar scenario with butler thinking Chicago is rose’s team and he seeming to want one of his own.
End of the day the process promotes opportunity and options and the jahill pick is aligned with that.

HitsterParticipantNoel also has the speed to potentially guard bigger SFs so all three could see occasional minutes on court together.
I think we need to wait and see how Embiid’s foot recovers and how the 76ers work out their roster before and during pre-season. At worse if all 3 become good players and one needs to be moved, quality young bigs attract a trade premium.
