Not to mention range out to the 3 point line!

I think 11pt, 7rebs and all rookie first yeam is very realistic for Embiid this year.

     Another good post/video from Presscapslock.

Not sure if I want Embiid on the perimeter. Not only are his strengths down low in the post but I’m not sure he would make the best stretch big. His shot looks silky smooth but once a big man closes out on him how comfortable will he be in the early stages with his body/agillity dealing with closeouts. Seems like having him out on the perimeter could lead to a lot of charges/bad passes/turnovers. They definition ly will utilize his shooting ability due to the fact that they have 5 big forwards on the roster Noel, Simmons, Okafor, Embiid, Saric and only two that can consistently shoot long range (on paper) Saric and Embiid.

Yea, I hope Brett Brown does not go all David Blatt and leave Embiid out on the perimeter like what he did to K-Love (whose elite offensive rebounding was nullified because of it). Embiid’s clear strength is down low, and I hope they utilize him so.

Its hard not to get excited about Embiid. But fellas, lets keep our fingers crossed and say our prayers bc he needs to stay healthy. If God is a basketball fan then He has got to get this kid on the court. We all think Simmons is special but Embiid…… man if he stays healthy then he will be the MAN! I dont care if he takes it outside or inside, once he knows he can play and not have to worry about his health believe me he will just shock the world. So here’s a prayer for Joel. Dear Lord keep him healthy!

that Embiid would Never play to get all that nervousness out……. & it’s hysterical

Looks like he’s landing Just fine on that foot & he’s perfectly healthy

I can Not believe how well proportioned this kid is at 7’2” — a Legit 7’2”

Philly has Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid & 2 top 10 Lottery pick sin the 2017 Draft……. Lakers got D’Lo Russell & Brandon Ingram…….. & the T-Wolves got KAT, Wiggins & Dunn

The NBA has some Great young teams on the Horizon

theres never been any doubt about his talent. He would’ve gone #1 in this years draft if he was healthy just like his own draft. I believe he would’ve been drafted #1 in 2015 and possibly even Anthony Davis’ draft but both of those guys were prospects scouts really liked. If he’s healthy the sixers are building around him as he’s a once in a generation talent at center. I get why people feel Simmons is a generational talent: he is a unique talent. But he only has one talent that I would say is generational and that is his passing skills for his size. Embiid all around is the total package

That’d be hard to do in 10-15 minutes a game… which I think is best case scenario (with or without Okafor). I think he might have more upside than anyone in the last 4 drafts or so, but healing and safety take time.

Embiid has not played any competitive basketball in over 2 yrs now and hadn’t really played a whole lot before that. Shooting catch and shoot jumpers in a workout is much different than playing  actual 5 on 5 against NBA players. Even if he is fully healthy, I wouldn’t expect him to set the world on fire this year. They will surely bring him along extremely slowly. I doubt he plays more than 12 mins a game to start the season and probably won’t play in back to backs. Hopefully, they can iincrease his workload as the season progresses. I think about the best thing you can hope for is that he doesn’t get hurt again and flashes some potential as he gets adjusted to playing again.

For a guy who hadn’t played a lot he plays better than most guys who have played their whole lives. He understands the game. Also David Robinson missed two years for his service obligation and didn’t seem to miss a beat. You may say Embiid isn’t as good as him but I’m not so sure about that.

David Robinson already had played 4 years of college basketball and had experience in international competition as well. Plus there weren’t injury concerns that were keeping him off the court. He could still train and play basketball while he was fulfilling his naval obligation. Embiid basically has half a season of high level basketball under his belt and has been extremely restricted in the work he has been able to do over the past 2 years. Robinson was NBA ready when he was drafted. Embiid, while immensely talented, was still very much a project. This isn’t nearly the same situation.

The sixers have taken an extremely cautious approach with embiid since they drafted him. They wouldn’t even allow him to suit up for summer league this year. I don’t see any reason they would change their approach now. He has athletic gifts you can’t teach and may well turn out to be a stud ( I hope he does). However, i think you need to be extremely cautious with your expectations for him, particularly out of the gate. Just showing he can stay on the floor and gradually getting his rhythm back as the season progresses would be a huge accomplishment imo.

but I don’t think Embiid was a project, that was more a stereotype about players without lots of basketball experience. A healthy Embiid in his rookie season if it was two years ago could’ve averaged 20-10 in my honest opinion. Of course it’s just opinion, but I also believe like dean smith was the only person who could hold MJ under 20, Bill Self was the only person who could hold back Embiid.

I personally am in the camp of if he is healthy for the next 15 years, he’s a perennial all star. I have no doubt if he plays he will be an absolute stud. Some people aren’t sure about that but I’m very confident. However, I’m not that confident that he will stay healthy. If he doesn’t stay healthy he can’t play.

David Robinson was serving his country and had been drafted as that was the year he was automatically eligible. Embiid has been injured on and off the last 2 plus years. He was sound at the end of 2014/15 and I really wish he had debuted then just played a few games to get himself on court.

As regards the 76ers offence and defence – I’d assume Embiid will play PF on offence with Noel or Okafor on court but C on offence if he was paired with Simmons or Saric. On defence I’d assume he’d play C unless they decided to use his size on the perimeter to nullify stretch 4’s.

There has been so much hype around the guy – I just want to see him play 70 odd games this season and be sound at the end.

Philly will manage his minutes – maybe sit him a few odd games in back to backs to build him up.

I think Embiid will show flashes and talent but he won’t put up huge numbers or huge minutes this year. I think the most likely scenario is that he will play about the same amount of minutes Whiteside played in 2014-2015 when he is not in foul trouble (which should happen a lot with a big guy coming off two blank seasons) which means 24 minutes max and probably around 20 mpg. Also, with his injury concerns and the necessary playing time for the other two bigs, I think the sixers will adjust his playing time by avoiding back-to-backs or some travels to preserve him. The most logical for them is to have him play between 50 and 65 games only this season to have his body adapt to the league more slowly and avoid injuries.
