5-star Porter Jr. picks UW

In a not super surprising move, 5-star Michael Porter Jr. has picked UW (Romar, out of desperation, hired his father to be an assistant coach a few months back). Porter Jr.’s little brother Jontay (class of 2018) is also committed to UW.
Loserenzo may have the top pick in the 2017 draft (Fultz) as well as 2018 (Porter Jr.) – The funny part is he’ll probably still miss the NCAA tournament with all that talent.
Guy can recruit, can’t coach – this comes from a UW fan and Seattle resident

Everyone knew he was going to Washington. Romar knows how to recruit, but is a bad coach.. Now lets see if Trae Young follows his best friend

  Trae Young will follow. He has no reason not too. Young and Porter would form a team that could compete at a very high level and Washington has sent plenty of guards to the NBA. This will end up being a scary team with or without Young. Porter is that good.

Having barely watched any Washington basketball in recent years, how does Romar get all these recruits with such little program success? Seems like every year there’s top recruits going there and guys getting drafted.. Is he that good of a recruiter? Obviously winning isn’t a top selling point and as I’ve seen a lot of people say he’s not a good in game coach so that’s not a top reason to go there so how does he do it?

The reason he gets high quality recruits is because being an African-American coach, he’s very much so the father figure that a lot of these guys don’t have. He’s an upstanding citizen, turns kids into men, and is quick to part ways with guys who are cancers (Robert Upshaw, Nigel Williams-Goss) so he values the culture at UW more than any one players ego which I think is beneficial for a university.
Lorenzo is good for 3-4 losses a year based on boneheaded coaching. Go watch the replay of UW vs Stony Brook from two seasons ago. UW goes up 18 and Romar takes his foot off the gas, goes to a motion offense and quits attacking. Stony brook came back and thumped us.

True. Fultz and Dejounte said the same thing, Romar is a father figure. To get Fultz to come out there from Maryland was just crazy, but he did it.
