SubZeroParticipantCharlotte receives Courtney Lee
Memphis receives Chris Andersen and PJ Hairston with a 2nd round pick from both teams
Miami receives Brian Roberts

ExumInfernoParticipantMiami are sort of giving up, saving some money.
Memphis, sort of in a holding pattern, they do get a swingman to replace Lee and a big for the rest of the season to use with Gasol out. Andersen won’t help a lot, but might play until Wright is ready.
Lee is more reliable than Hairston, so the Hornets get some veteran help.
A small trade, but it might show that Memphis is thinking about shaking things up.

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantAt first glance it looks like we won this trade hands down. The only caveat being injuries. We have been pretty knicked up, and this fact may negate the Lee pickup.

YungmUNyParticipantI really don’t get this trade for Memphis. Their biggest need is outside shooting, yet they just traded their best shooter for a guy with an inconsistent jumpshot. I understand that they need depth downlow, but they probably could have done better in free agency than Chris Andersen, who even Udonis Halsem was beating out for playing time. I guess the market just wasn’t there for Courtney Lee.
Does anyone know what year the picks are that Memphis will be getting?

morestealsthanscoresParticipantPeople are kinda missing the point on this one. This is a trade of 3 fringe players and 1 roleplayer on an expiring contract. The biggest assets involved? Memphis just picked up two second round picks.
For a nominal backwards steps on the court, for half a season, in a season that’s already lost thanks to Marc’s injury…they’ve picked up two second round picks, which gives them much more flexibility in future deals.
It’s a really inconsequential trade – but a good one for Memphis. Interestingly enough though, it also works quite nicely for the Heat (who save a huge amount of cash once you factor in taxes) and Charlotte (who want to win now, and need more experience and more shooters…as well as wanting to dump PJ Hairston).
So good trade all round!
