RUDEBOY_ParticipantCarmelo Anthony trade rumors started heating up all over the internet..After Lebron took his talents to South Beach..And CP3 made that toast at Carmelo’s Wedding of him & Melo joining Amare in New York..
But things dont look so well for the Nuggets in the future..Even if he does sign an extension before the season starts..He won’t have any talent to help him…..The Nuggets front Office have some big decisions to make…And they should start by getting some young talent and draft picks for Anthony now…1.The Nuggets can pay Billups only 3.7 of the 14 million dollars they owe him if they release him before the 2011-2012 season..I don’t think the Nuggets will be willing to pay a 35 year old Billups 14 million a season..
2.Nene can Opt out of his Contract at the end if the season..
3.Kenyon Martin & J.R. Smith both will be free agents after the season..

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantThe only upside to Melo signing the extension is they could do a total rebuild around him.
I agree with all your points. If I was Melo, no extension is worth it right now. I would test the FA market. He could get big money and play next to that superstar he should play next to.

ghettosermonParticipantLeBron and Bosh going to Miami is really going to kill team loyalty for many players, because all of a sudden now many NBA stars want to be a part of a super team instead of staying loyal to their home team.

HitsterParticipantBoston started the Holy Trinity when they added Ray Allen and KG in 2007 and then won the title so a lot of GM’s saw this as the way forward, get 3 Franchise Level guys, a few good role players and prospects, add good veterans via FA who want to try and win a title and will take less money to do so. This is basically what Miami have done and the Knicks were openly after two franchise players this summer so other teams are likely to follow suit.
Melo knows he will be the top FA next summer and the only reason not to test the waters could be fears of the new CBA.

NYK2010ParticipantWell everyone knew Bosh was leaving, Raptors should’ve traded him during the season to get back something.
Lebron why would he stay in Cleveland that roster was old at SG/PF/C.
The Nets, Knicks, Bulls, Heat and Clips all were better options. The CBA is a lil tricky but max players with as much time in the league as Mello will still get big money.

stanford hoopsBoston didn’t start it youngin. This has been going on for years and years.
I’m confused by alot of fans not liking this but they are for stars testing the freeagent market instead of staying with there team while thru rebuild. Personally I have no problem with players leaving or staying because it’s a business first and a game second

KevinDurantRocksParticipantI think you are way off. I would see Kobe leaving the Lakers just to be on a super team as long as the Lakers had a good team ( a team that could get to the western finals at least).

Cardinal_FanParticipantI think it would be a great move 4 Melo 2 leave, great points on Nene opting out and Billups and K-Mart possibly not bein there. Wut does that leave Melo with???? A Chris Paul situation??? No matter what the old school players say about them not liking super teams such as the new look Heat its going 2 build more interest in the league becuz people are going to wanna see how it works. All those Heat an Lebron bashers will be watching juss like the rest of us, can they break the bulls single season wins record???? Who will be the first team to beat them???? Will there be chemistry problems???? Can they actually win the championship???? Its gonna generate huge interest. So why not see Melo join the bulls along with Rose and Boozer??? We’re talking about big time matchups when they play the Heat an Celtics. On the Kobe situation he would never have 2 leave L.A. because they will always draw top tier free agents (Big market, its in L.A., an they will pay the money 2 put a championship team 2gether). Super teams would only help the nba by building more excitement for basketball fans an curiosity for casual fans. The proof is Miami sold out their tickets in a matter of hours!!!! An even if the Heat play a team that sucks like Minnesota, fans will pack the arena just 2 get a glimpse of Wade, Lebron, and Bosh up close.

omphalosParticipantI think there is a huge difference between what Boston did and what the Heat did. Boston took three players on the tail end of their careers and united them for one final role of the dice. They have a limited window and age/injury will slow them down. Its a whole different kettle of fish to take the 2nd and 3rd best player in the League, pair them with another All-Star who are just entering their prime and who will be the same age as Boston’s Big 3 after 6 years. Thats a potential 8/9 years they will probably dominate. So yeah, don’t like it one bit.
Team loyalty for the current crop of superstars will go out the window, because most of them are too old to simply ride it out. Its up to players like Durant, Rose etc to see that everything is earned and nothing is given, so they should just wait until its their turn and set a good example around the League.
They have already begun to do that, with Durant signing that 6 year deal and Rose saying he’s “never leaving Chicago”.

stanford hoopsDidn’t thoses three still make thr allstar team? So they got three allstars. Reguardless where they were in there careers they were still allstars. Boston has added allstars in the past as well the bulls added hof rodman. Lakers added shaq. Kareem, wilt. Etc. This is nothing new except to the young people who don’t remember the past NBA or have looked up the past NBA freeagent signings
There’s never been complete team
or player loyalty. Free agents have Been leaving for years and years in order to go to a team with a better chance at a title. Nit sure why people are acting like bron Wade and bosh are the first to do it.0 - Posted on: Fri, 09/10/2010 - 5:22am #398263
