Thought I’d make this thread for the upcoming draft. It would be really cool if the site didn’t crash this year as well but we’ll see. Heres a few things I’ve been hearing. Who knows if any of this is true though. This draft is gonna be very entertaining.

-Kuminga maybe slipping in the draft (which I guessed would happen for a while now). Barnes, Bouknight, Giddey and possibly Moody and Wagner maybe favored. High risk.
-Franz Wagner is being viewed as a lock for top 10. Teams see him as a high floor high upside player
-Kispert had a bad workout in Indiana and maybe slipping.
-Dayron Sharpe, rumored to have a promise at 27 may have worked his way into the lottery. He has an individual workout with the Hornets.
-CHAD FORD says Ziare Williams is a favorite for the 2nd Orlando pick at #8. I’m starting to think he is just saying stuff for content and shock value. Alot of what he is saying this year is baseless speculation but he states it as if its a fact or he has insider knowledge.
-Trey Murphy has moved up, again. Being looked at as high as 9.

What are some possible draft trades you can think of…?

Idk. Theres alot of teams trying to make moves apparently. Last year was the same though and nothing happened.

I think Sacramento is trying to make a trade and I could see Bagley and Hield getting moved.

The Cavs also seem to be trying to make a move. Reports came out that Toronto is targeting Jarett Allen, I’m not sure how much of that is just saying “if you draft Mobley you can expect to lose Allen” and hoping they pass on Mobley.

Golden State are projected to pay nearly half a billion dollars in salaries due to taxes which would be a second year where they paid a ridiculous amount so I just don’t see how they decide to stay put with what they have.

Just gotta wait and see what ends up happening.

Memphis just traded Jonas ,along with the number 17 & 51 picks To Pelicans for Number 10 & 40,Bledsoe,Adams and a Protected Lakers pick in 2022. Jonathan Wasserman and Kevin O’Conner claim Grizzlies will select Giddey. I think it’s Duarte,Moody,Bouknight or Jalen Johnson.

Damn I don’t know what I think about this trade. They clearly wanted to move away from Jonas here and go with Adams. What do you think since your the Grizzlies fan? Apparently Adams has worked on his three point shot during the offseason.

NOP want to have some cap space possibly to run at a FA or to resign some of their own FA’s so a fair move for both teams, Memphis get a good couple of vets and a lottery pick this year, Plus Bledsoe’s contract for 2022-23 is under $4 million guaranteed but worth over $18 million if team takes up the option so that could be flipped into an asset over the next year.
NOP have a load of picks to play with too so can afford to trade back to give them options come FA..

Kuminga did not have a good G-League run, and I think that gets forgotten. Typically if someone shoots in the 30s percent wise from the field and is in the mid-20s from three in the G-League, they don’t sniff the NBA floor, unless you are Poku and the Thunder try to lose by 30 to get the 6th pick. Now, Kuminga is a dynamic athlete with a body that can rival Scottie Barnes for what the prototype for 2021 looks like, but Barnes played hard and Kuminga looked like he was playing AAU ball and not on a job interview. It is a concern for a developmental prospect, even one with the elite physical traits of Kuminga, when it is not clear he knows how much learning and work he has to put in. I think that is the concern teams have with BJ Boston as well.

Franz Wagner and Josh Giddey worry me in the same way Deni Avdija worried me. Wagner is a better athlete and defender than the other two, but offensively. They are all impressive creators with questionable shots. Will they go some place where they get decent opportunities to play on the ball? If not, then they probably shouldn’t go in that spot because a team would be taking away a strength and highlighting a weakness.

Day’Ron Sharpe was thoroughly unimpressive last year. He didn’t play big minutes, but was foul and turnover prone when in. He didn’t come across nearly as athletic as he was hyped to be. He wasn’t an especially good finisher at the rim, bad when away from it, and a coin flip at the free throw line. How good of a series of workouts does one need to have to overcome that resume? Are people really going to buy the reports that he is shooting the lights out, lost weight, and is moving like a ballerina? I don’t.

I have said it before that I didn’t understand why Kispert was in the lottery when Murphy was late first and most either completely dismissed Wieskamp or regarded him as a 2nd. He is an elite shooter, and that has value. He will be in the 1st and in the league. I think the shine from being on the glamour team of the season elevated him more than it should, and honestly the more he falls the more value a elite shooter will have because it is more likely to land him in a stable and coherent situation. Also, Murphy should be rising. Much like with Bey a year ago, too many people hold prep rankings too highly and ignore that a guy can be 6’4″ going into his senior year of high school and end up 6’9″ with basically with the same physical makeup as a 5-star as well as being an elite shooter. Potential is not measured by when a kid physically grows. Murphy and Ziaire Williams have almost the exact same physical and athletic testing with Murphy carrying 10 more lbs. One excelled in college and is unquestionably and elite shooting prospect while the other requires people to come up excuses for why he didn’t live up to his prep hype. It is possible Orlando goes with Ziaire. Maybe the covid year really did hold him down. It is the caveat for a lot in this draft. He fits the Hammond mold in terms of length as well as Orlando’s troubling continued belief that they can teach anyone to shoot even with its army of bricklayers in its recent draft history.

I think Wagner goes to Kings at #9 and at #7 Giddey goes either for Warriors to keep or a trade with Grizzlies for #10. Then Warriors take Davion Mitchell at #10 if they trade.
On my mock I currently have Giddy at #7, Moody going to Grizzlies at #10, and Mitchell going to Pacers at #13. If that Warriors/Grizzlies trade does happen as rumored and Mitchell is GS target at #10 I just don’t know where to shift Moody to in my mock so as of now I haven’t changed it to accommodate that rumored Grizzlies/Warriors trade.

Westbrook to Lakers gives them a superstar big 3 but they lose depth but they go all in for LBJ’s last couple of years and can always attracr vets to full out a bench. They will still have AD long term so can easily rebuild around him in a couple of years.
Washington get some nice pieces in the trade and it gives them depth plus possible future trade options and if someone does go all in for Beal they have got Westbrook off the books. I like the core around Beal now though.

So we always here positionless basketball over and over. But we know thats not true. The NBA isn’t positionless its just most players need to be able to guard multiple positions. Barnes can actually guard any position and he will be a defensive playmaker no matter where you have him. On top of that he can run an offense, may striuggle with it early until he gets that jumpshot going though.

So to answer your question you put him anywhere. He can actually play any position. He’s the same size as Bam Adebayo and he can run the offense.

I lke Giddey to OKC a bit of a reach but Presti has a good draft record. Kuminga to GSW I love they can just use his athleticism to rebound and run the floor plus they can feed him easy baskets.

Suggs and Wagner is a good heal for Magic too.

On the realgm Raptors board I made a thread saying Barnes was consensus top 6 and Toronto should draft him and got lit up, this is before the lottery. Then after the lottery I predicted Toronto would draft Scottie Barnes. The thread got locked and I got flagged for trolling. 🤣 Can’t make this stuff up. So I made a thread tonight to reminds them and that one got closed haha.

They wanted Suggs BAD. Very mad fans over there.

I was taking part in a Mock on another board in 2007 when we were doing a board draft and I had Memphis pick Conley at 4 and a Memphis fan thought I was winding him up. But who did they draft there?

I had Barnes in top 6 or 7 at worse so not a huge reach at 4.
Bouknight fell abit but alongsode Ball at the Hornets is a good landing place for him.

Can’t believe they ran commercials for the Raptors 3rd pick. They know were watching over here. Probably the largest audience left at that point of the draft. Man, the disrespect ESPN shows Toronto is unreal. I trust Masai and his staff. Banton is a great pick, him and Scottie Barnes gives you a ridiculous amount of versatility. I think there were better prospects than David Johnson but these guys are proven and I trust them.

But WHY couldn’t they pick Garza, or Bassey, or Petrusev, or Enu? These guys have NEVER prioritized rebounding and with Barnes and Banton coming in we are gonna continue to get KILLED on the glass. This leagues insane.
