I’m 19 days late on the December Big Board. There’s ton of changes in this big board than the other big boards because I changed my mindset in scouting players by now just looking at traits and not just raw numbers or what players do vs. top teams. I watched some football and basketball and saw the latter is not as reliable as what a player can do on the court. Also, this is a list to ones I believe should/expected to declare. Here goes my Big Board,

1.) Markelle Fultz – He’s the best player/prospect in this class, it’s not even really close at this point. He have elite size, athletic ability, and go-to scoring moves that you don’t see as a 18 year old. He have the best traits in this years class. Every time he touches the ball he gets better. It’s insane from watching him in the Elite 24 to the McDonals All-American Game to Jordan Brand All-American Game to USA Basketball to playing now at Washington and how much better he is now in such a short amount of time.

2.) Dennis Smith Jr. – This might be a little controversial because a lot believe Ball is either the best or second best point guard in this class. In my opinion and how I look at players now, I would rather have a player that can get you 24+ a night over a guy that would only give you 14 a night. Smith Jr. is the second best scoring prospect in this class and has impressed with his schooting ability

3.) Jonathan Isaac – He’s my riser. He’s 6’11" 215 with a 7’1"+ wingspan and have a lethal stroke from 3 point line. What seperates Isaac from Jackson and Tatum is that Isaac have positional versatility, shooting touch, and his potential. In all the aspects Isaac has the edge over the other 2 freshman.

4.) Josh Jackson – About any other draft he would be number one, but this is a very special class. He is the second best passer in this class, behind Lonzo Ball. He have a special trait in having an elite motor and have a toughness. He’s what we wanted Andrew Wiggins to be in that area. He got that lable when he was in High School, but I see more of Tracy McGrady.

5.) Lonzo Ball – He dropped on my list, not becaue of his play, but his skill set. Of course he’s a phenomenal passer and have outstanding court vision, but his scoring potential worry me for a potential number one overall pick. He only scored one time this year from mid range. Most would say that’s a good thing because the most effecient shots are at the rim and three point line. I say it’s a bad thing because he shown no pull-up moves to suggest that he can be a top notch scorer and nothing more than Ricky Rubio with a jumper.

6.) Frank Ntilikina – The gap between 5-6 is pretty big because of the unknowns in the next  couple spots. Frank Ntilikina has been killing overseas from the games and highlights that I saw. He possesses elite tools and has really grown to be a great three point shooters. Out of all the point guards in this class, he’s the best defender out of the group. What concerns me is that he don’t possess an advance handle, which limits his scoring potential and make me question if he’s actually a point guard or a shooting guard.

7.) Harry Giles – I know he’s been bad this year and have not gotten into form, but he’s an elite talent when he’s 100% healthy. I’m not knocking him down because of his injury and I have him this high because of what I saw in high school and his natual abilities.

8.) Malik Monk – Been on the hype train since he was in high school and he have been proving me to be right in how he is a lethal shooter and elite scorer. At this point in time I have concern that he can translate to be a point guard. He didn’t shown the ability to run the team next to De’Aaron Fox. If he’s able to show point guard abilities, he would go to #6. Reminds me of Zach LaVine/JR Smith

9.) De’Aaron Fox – He’s been phenomenal in running the show at Kentucky and he should be a top 10 pick this summer. He don’t show elite abilities like Ball, Fultz, and Smith Jr., but he shown that he can be great at the next level. I have concern with his scoring ability due to his jumper and the ability to finish at rim, even though he’s hitting a high number.

    10) Lauri Markannen –  I never seen anything like him at the college level. Being 7′ and having the jumer he has is pretty phenomenal. He’s like a 7′ Kyle Korver with his ability to come off screens and being able to shoot it. He shoots 45% from 3 as a 7′, that’s a need in today’s NBA. He have a lot of weaknesses, but his potential impact at the next level is evident.

11.) OG Anunoby – He’s not posting up huge numbers, but he have the size, athletic ability, and IQ to be a lethal role player in this league. He can play both forward positions in the league and be great at both. He have everything but a handle, if it improves he would have the ability to be a all star.

12.) Jayson Tatum – Probably the most controveral player on my list. Some have Tatum as high as top 3, but I don’t see it. He have great tools and an impressive mid range game, but I don’t see top level NBA talent. He’s not the playmaker Jackson is and don’t have the potential as Isaac does. His lack of explosion and 3 point shot have him at 12.

13.) TJ Leaf – Arguably UCLA best player, he’s been awesome this season and have really impressed me. He have an expremly high motor, great rebounder, can block shots, and can shoot the ball. That screems top level NBA talent.

14.) Ivan Rabb – He won’t WOW you, but his motor is unmatched. He have an translatable skill that will have him see the court early on.

    15.) Miles Bridges

    16.) Tyler Lydon

    17.) Justin Patton

    18.) DJ Wilson

    19) Dwayne Bacon

    20) Robert Williams

    21.) Bam Adebayo

    22.) Terrance Ferguson

    23/) Luke Kennard

    24.) Jaron Blossomgame

    25.) Jonathan Motley

Reminder that I was high on Isaac before the season started. I said I would choose him over Michael Porter Jr and I still stand by it. That doesnt mean that thats the way things will end up, but I’m confident in my prediction. My only problem with him is that he seems slower than his high school tapes showed but im sure some NBA training would do him wonders.

He has a kevin Durant type game and thats weird cause a tall scoring forward gets compared to Durant every damn year(remember Kevon Looney’s high school tapes) but my projection for him would be a poor man’s Durant. That was a Kevin Durant type statline he put up today with those blocks to go along with his 23 and 10

I can’t really get behind the Michael Porter < Jonathan Isaac train due to Michael Porter have a more advanced handle and pull-up game. Isaac showned that ability, but Porter would be the 2nd best player in this class if he was in the class.

where his current game is after years in the league Otto would be second, but not based off where he was at there same age. Which is the point these projections are based on upside and development and based off that issac looks like he’ll be wayyyyy better than Otto.

I agree on a lot of points made, but Rubio with a jumper would probably be a top 10 player in the NBA, and I just don’t think you pass up on that kind of player if you’re selecting third or fourth, as good as this class is. What interests me is if Ball can really continue making that shot consistently until the end of the year with that unorthodox release, but hey, if Kevin Martin made his living shooting the way he did, then I reckon Lonzo won’t have too many problems. He seems to be the best pure baller, with the best feel for the game of anyone in this class, he just makes it look effortless, something you don’t really teach. A top 3 pick for me at this point.

And Tatum should definitely be a top 10 pick come June, having Anunoby ahead of him is ridiculous IMO, but we’ll see how they develop. I’m not sure if he’s a top 5 prospect as some are suggesting, but I would select him before Markkanen, Giles and Monk and maybe even consider picking him ahead of Fox or Ntilikina. Definitely at least 3 or 4 spots higher.

Except Rubio himself was "Rubio with a jumper" (though I don’t like this comparison for Ball, Rubio is very different apart from vision) back when he was drafted, posting .429 3PT% in 2008-2009 on more than 2 attempts a game in Europe, tougher competition than what Ball’s facing.

Ball offers lots of upside but he definitely does not look like a top 10 NBA player.

Tatum under Anunoby seems low, but he clearly could easily not be in the top 10. His stock is not improving with his shot not falling, Duke not performing as well as expected, and direct competitors Isaac and Jackson playing better basketball right now. It’s said to be the point guard draft, no one should be surprised if all 5 star PGs (including Ntilikina) are taken before Tatum. I also think another european wild card might end up top 10 in Hartenstein (gaining steam with the lack of good US 5s and playstyle similar to Jokic). Not saying Tatum is not as good as you imply, just that he could definetly slide to the late lottery.

Rubio with a jumper still not a top 5 point guard in the NBA. He wouldn’t be ahead of John Wall, Dame Lillard, Kyle Lowry, Kemba Walker, and Isaiah Thomas. Rubio with a shot cannot create seperation in the NBA and would have trouble putting up scoring numbers consistently because his lack of pull-up game and advance ball handling ability. This is a reason why a player like John Wall is different from Rubio is because he can create his own shot.

I like OG Anunoby traits more than Tatum’s. I believe he is a reliable handle to be Kawhi Leonard, He’s good to great at everything besides his handle. He is the best defensive prospect in this draft with the ability to guard all 3 perimeter positions and the stretch four. Also, he can make the three pointer and can play above the rim. I like more things as a prospect in Anunoby than I do in Tatum and I also believe OG Anunoby have a higher ceiling and an even higher floor.

i might be in the minority..but i dont see fox becoming a franchise pg at the next level..no doubt he might end of starting….but not someone u can build around..he reminds me of a young kenny smith(minus the jump shot).

His defense and playmaking makes him close to NBA ready as a starter, and he still has upside. Rajon Rondo proved you can contend with young kids this type in your starting lineup, even without shooting ability, depending on who surrounds him.

Well coached he could become a very good player also.

How far can this kind of skillset slide? Most of the guys even in the lottery are less likely to become starters than him. Even if he never becomes Tony Parker or whatever his ceiling is, Fox is definitely lottery.

UCLA has the best offense in college. Midrange shots are not conducive for what the team wants to do. I guarantee Ball’s teammates also have very few midrange jumpers attempted.

If Ricky Rubio could shoot he would be a top 5 point guard in the league. He’s already a talented passer and one of the best defenders at his position. Lakers should try very hard to try and land Ball because the only thing they’re missing is a primary playmaker who can also catch and shoot.

I don’t base all this off of college, he also didn’t show a pull-up/mid range game when he played in high school and post-season all american games and practices. He shoots less than 20% from the mid range area. It’s a small sample size, but it’s worth knocking him for. His lack of go-to moves have me questioning his scoring potential.

Ricky Rubio with a jumper is not a top 5 point guard. Even if he had a jumper, he still wouldn’t be able to create consitently and will only average around 14 points per game due to his shot creation and ball handling. He wouldn’t be in the top 5 with point guards like John Wall, Dame Lillard, Kemba Walker, Isaiah Thomas, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, and Chris Paul still playing.

So do you think Jackson will be an elite scorer like in respect to TMacs game?

Which I say elite is around 25ppg in his prime.

I believe he can if he can clean up his jumper. I wouldn’t put anything past Josh Jackson, he have the Rissell Westbrook type of mentality.
