SubZeroParticipantFound it interesting (and exciting) that almost half said they’d choose Towns to start a team.
Also some of these results make no sense. What GM would say Ben Simmons is the best passer in the NBA?
Of the last question, I’m all in favor of changing the lottery, reducing timeouts, and the shot clock to 14 on offensive rebounds (although I’m surprised this didn’t have more votes)

Magic JordanParticipantI was thinking the same thing. Coangelo would say it I suppose.
I was also having a hard time figuring out who would say Dion Waiters was a good or suprising acquisition… it’s clear GMS can vote for their own team.

Hype MachineSimmons is the best passer in the NBA.
0- Posted on: Tue, 10/18/2016 - 12:48pm #1087500
Magic JordanParticipantLol. Simmons hasn’t even made 1 pass in the NBA. Hype I didn’t know you participated in the NBA GM Survey! Good for you man. You lucky dog.
Now it’s only a matter of figuring out which team you are a GM for. You are all about the Jazz, and they currently have the most Aussie players on one team I believe with 2… ammmmIright???
0- Posted on: Tue, 10/18/2016 - 11:51pm #1087510
Hype MachineI been a Jazz fan since I was young…for kid reasons. Its not like Im from Utah, so my fanaticism only runs so deep. Plus…I dont know a single Jazz fan. So its not like I can call my buddys at 9.30am and ask them to come around for beers and the Jazz game. I learned how obscure my choice of team was when I got older.
NBA isn’t a big thing here. It ranks behind a lot of other sports. Lots of kids play it and might watch the top 10 dunks on their facebook feed.
Even in Sydney, they get smaller crowds than St Marys, and thats for their pro team.
If you went to a party of 100 random Aussie people, you would be lucky to find 5 that could pick Steph Curry from a line-up. And maybe 1 who could tell you who Draymond Green is.
So when the US fans get on their soapbox about being the best at basketball.
Its a basketball community of 200million, vs 200thousand. 0.1% of the size.
Dont ask me why Russia, China and Brazil are all so average. If Australia has 1 billion citizens, we would at least equal Americas overall talent.
And the fact that 1 or 2 Aussies enter the league every year (with increasing talent), that represents a remarkably disproportionate amount.
And as for Ben Simmons. Hes the first player to match Magic Johnsons passing ability. Go check his dimes from Summer League. In a fast paced team with a lot of minutes, could average a triple double.
Magic Johnson knows what its like to be 6’9 and be an expert passer…so he knows just what Simmons is capable of. Thats why he hypped him up so much.

SubZeroParticipantI wouldn’t hate on a GM voting him as best passer after he’s played, but he hasn’t played in a game that counts yet. We’ve yet to see if his passing is as great as it’s supposed to be, even though I agree that his court vision is on another level. Just vote for guys who’ve proven it, no matter how convinced you are that this new guy is special

xJumpManxParticipantI dont think Irving is the top pg in the NBA but I do think Irving is a better player than Curry. He has proved it inthe finals last season the 1 final game he played before getting hurt the year before and he was the better player on Team USA when both were on same team. Id take Paul, Westbrook and Irving before I took Curry.
0- Posted on: Tue, 10/18/2016 - 5:05pm #1087506

IndianaBasketballParticipantSmdh. Your hate for Stephen Curry blinds you.
Curry is better than Kyrie Irving in just about every way. He’s the better leader, better in regards to making his teammates better (both with and without the ball) and doesn’t have to play "hero ball". Everyone knows Irving dribbles the air out of the ball (phenomenal at it no doubt, but still…). Curry is more durable, averaging 79 games played over his last 4 seasons compared to Irving’s 65. Curry has better overall intangibles and offensive IQ. I just don’t know what you’re using to determine Irving is a better player. Defensively, neither player is great. Curry is better in the passing lanes and is where he’s supposed to be more often.
Both players are elite offensive players, but based on the numbers, etc… It’s clear who’s better there too. Curry is more efficient from just about everywhere on the floor. He’s a better passer with better vision, and actually looks to make the extra pass. Irving has tunnel vision and passes as a last resort. Irving is a stronger driver and finisher with contact. He also has some moves in his offensive arsenal that Curry doesn’t have like the ability to turn and shoot over either shoulder when he’s in the low post area, etc. But Curry is still the better offensive player.
There’s no doubt Curry is the best guard in the NBA despite the fact injuries slowed him down in the playoffs.

HitsterParticipantNo love for building around The Brow this year which is strange, thought the Greek Freak might have got a mention there.
Also only 3.3% think Embiid could be the best of this year’s rookies in 5 years time, that would be very generous odds to a betting man.
Also MVP would likely be best player on best regular season team so I’d figure it would be a GSW player. LBJ will watch his minutes in regular season and be all in for play offs so he doesn’t jump out as much value to be MVP to me.

Arc12345ParticipantSuper thorough survey which I appreciated. The only thing that was really mind boggling was that the majority of GM’s still think Deandre Jordan is the best center in the league.
There’s just no way I can justify that. Everything else I can at least reason my way through and understand their logic. That’s one I don’t get. I’d take Cousins, Gasol, KAT, and Davis all over Jordan at the 5. He brings so much defensively and is incredibly athletic, but has no offensive game and still can’t hit free throws. To me, he’s not even close to what Dwight Howard was at his peak.
Maybe that’s just me though

ChoppyParticipantInteresting to see that GMs for 2 years running (and its increasing) think that the draft lottery is the thing that most needs changing. Change is coming on that front, perennially bad teams that vote against change to the current system are on notice.
0- Posted on: Tue, 10/18/2016 - 11:53pm #1087511
Hype MachineCos they all know the lottery is rigged

HitsterParticipantIf the Commissioner wanted to change the lottery and a lot of GMs are for it then we can assume some owners are too so there could be a mindset to push it through.

Bird_YearsParticipantDanny Ainge clearly cast his vote for himself in a couple categories (Boston seeding in the East, Best Offseason Moves and Best Coach) haha, I like the confidence Danny
Going to be a much more competitive East this year at least. Last year the East was only 14 games total behind the West in matchups, down from 76 games in 2015, 118 games in 2014 and 74 games in 2013
