HitsterParticipantReports are that next season’s salary cap will be $94 million and minimum level a team will need to be at will be over $84 million. That means a lot of teams will have a load of money to spend and luxury tax level will be around $110 million.

EndlessknightParticipantCan’t see the Sixers meeting that floor unless that take a big salary dump like Rose or Love. Either that or give max money to a mediocore FA.

doubledribblerParticipantI think it would be smarter just to give the difference to the guys on the roster. It’s not a hard sell. You say you like what we have on the roster and by the way all of you guys are getting more money!
I don’t think the Rose idea would be terrible just because that would only be one year and a temporary upgrade to the pg position. The problem would be figuring out something that works for both teams. Not sure about the Love thing. You probably need to figure out your logjam at the 4 and 5 spots instead of adding more guys at the position. Assuming they take Simmons the focus needs to be about building around him and making a strong effort to win games again.

BasterdInABasketParticipantYeah just looked it up they’re on the books for about 33 million next year. Are they gonna be forced to throw big money on some one or two year deal to some undeserving players. Not like any top tier FA is going there long term. Also what happens if a team doesn’t meet the floor?

EndlessknightParticipantPretty sure it’s just a fine that goes to the NBAPL

publius2481ParticipantIf a team is below the floor, they must pay the amount below the floor which is divided equally among the players on the team. So if Philly misses the floor, everyone gets bonuses.

D7H7NParticipantsmh some team is going to offer Harrison Barnes 23M/year and GSW will have to match it

Reptilian MonkParticipantAfter the last couple games Warriors should let him walk and a team paying 20 mil for Barnes is insane and making a bad move

D7H7NParticipantUnfortunately unless Golden State is getting Durant..there is no other player in free agency who plays the 3-4 smallball role as well as Barnes. The next option is Batum but he’s turning 30 in 3 years, if you’re looking to give a one of the two a multi-year max contract might as well be Barnes.

doubledribblerParticipantBarnes has been a big part of the team, but he is the most easily replaced player on that team. They have enough flexibility that they can patch that spot with one of the guys currently on the roster or target someone to play a bit role. Even if a new player is worse than Barnes, you still have Iguadola coming off the bench. They start plenty of defense in Bogut, Green, and Thompson. Have plenty of shooting. There are a lot of ways they can go and still be in good shape. Whoever they would replace Barnes with wouldn’t have a ton of responsibility. Besides I don’t see how this team overpays when it has gotten Green and Thompson to take deals under their value and are finally near having to paying Curry a big bump in salary.

D7H7NParticipantThe Warriors have about 40M to play around with for this offseason after you account for their expiring contracts as the luxury tax line will be at 113M. The cap will increase next year too with Iggy and Bogut either leaving or re-signing for less money most likely. More than enough room to give Curry his max deal.
If they don’t get Durant, they match any offer for Barnes. If Barnes doesn’t want to play at GSW anymore there’s been a sign-and-trade rumor of him going to Charlotte for Batum.

llperezI still wouldn’t overpay. If you don’t meet minimum you just have divy out however short you are to the rest the roster. Better then ending up with Harrison Barnes for 20 mill a year.

Hype MachineDoes divying out include giving a share to rookie scale players.
They could end up with a huge pay spike.
Eg a late 1st rounder at Philly could get more than a lottery pick elsewhere

HitsterParticipantThe minimum cap level or luxury tax fines aren’t calculated until virtually this time of year I believe so draft day trades can affect this if I’m thinking correctly.
Lets say a team over the cap level has someone with a team option for the next year and another team needs to get up to minimum level. The undercap team takes said player from over cap team in draft day trade and don’t take up team option or trade him on and both teams avoid fines.
GSW could match Barnes and get another season out of him before looking to make a trade to get back under cap level to give room for Curry’s mega deal or be creative with any extensions for Bogut and Iggy from 2017. I think with Barnes a lot will depend on Game 7 outcome, does a player leave a Championship winning team – it makes it a lot less logical if he does.
