First of all did anyone see the league team value rose by an average 72% ? Unbelieveable….last year the Knicks were worth 1.4 billion this year 2.5…makes me happier that Sterling is no longer a part of the Association that is an unbelievable asset for someone to hold someone as blatantly ignorant as him shouldn’t be so lucky to own a team. Here’s the 2015 team values

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbadenhausen/2015/01/21/average-nba-team-worth-record-1-1-billion-2/

Having said that what does that mean for the salary cap and player contracts? Would a max contract now be in the neighborhood of 25-30 million? Just a curiosity of mine because I have to believe that is going to impact free agency in some way..when you have high quality players making 18 million I wonder if teams will be willing to pay now 22 million for the same or even a lesser player.

Next thing I’ve been wondering is who is going to be a hot commodity and for what team..

Greg Monroe is beginning to look like a #1/#2 offensive option depening on the team…who might actually have a shot to land Moose? I suspect Stan Van will do his best to keep him but the Lakers or Celtics may be willing to throw their money at him. If he does leave could Enes Kanter be a Piston next season? I’d like that rebounding tandem with Dre and him although you definitely lose a lot offensively. I think he has a nice future he’s just being pushed away from Utah unfortunately for him. I believe with him looking out of sort with the Jazz he may have good value this summer. Anyone have a guess as to teams with the space that will want him? Knicks? Hell Milsapp may leave the Hawks so ATL may want him. One free agent that has me curious is Tobias Harris. I think he has star potential and I think whichever team lands him is going to be happy. In fact the Lakers would be smart to consider him as a future cog.

Anybody have a 2015 free agent that they want on their team or any info to contribute?

The salary cap is predicted to jump to 90 million, but not next year. I’ve read they may try to raise the cap gradually, but I don’t think they will considering the cap is tied to revenue not value. The TV deals will take time to kick in, and I think they will have all kicked in by the end of next season. That means the salary cap for next year will probably only be a few million more than the current 63 million. Also, maximum contracts are between 25% and 35% of the total salary cap, depending on how many years someone has played. So if and when the cap does rise to 90 then max deals will be between 22.5 and 31.5 a year. It’s about time the stars of the NBA get paid as much as the best of the MLB. Not that they’re not all grossly overpaid.

Monroe, Kanter, and Harris are all guys I’m interested to see what happens as well. Considering how Detroit has played so much better w/o Josh Smith I think Monroe could easily stay. If Tim Duncan retires then the Spurs may be interested. Atlanta if they lose Paul Millsap. Memphis if they lose Randolph. Maybe Toronto if they think he is an upgrade over Amir Johnson. The Lakers and Boston both have similar young players so I think they’ll look at other positions, and then obviously the Knicks.

I don’t see how Kanter and Drummond could coexist, but the Knicks and Lakers would work if they don’t draft a center. New Orleans if they prefer him to Asik. Milwaukee could use a big guy who can score. And like Monroe, San Antonio, Memphis and Atlanta could need a replacement.

Orlando can match any offer Tobias Harris receives, so he will be very interesting. The Magic already offered a 4 year deal at 9 million per, so I can see them willing to match to 12 million. Would the Knicks offer him the max? That sounds silly, but so did Gordan Hayward. I don’t know how he’d fit next to Anthony, but apparently he wants to win a championship in New York. Funny right.

Josh Smith is another I’m interested in. I think Sacramento will offer him the most money.

What about all the Green’s? Draymond, Gerald, Danny, and Jeff are all free agents. I’m done speculating though.

Nba players are underpaid. MLB and NFL players get paid much more with 40-60 man rosters. NBA has 15 man rosters and should get a higher cut of the revenue.

NFL players get paid a whole lot less as the bulk of the money in their contracts is non guaranteed and they can be cut at any time, so just because they sign a huge contract, majority of players see maybe 25% of the actual money. NBA players are by far the highest average paid players in the 4 major sports, the average contract being just a tad over 5 million, MLB 3.2, NHL 2.4 and NFL 1.9. NBA players have the best contract situation of any of the major sports as all contracts are guaranteed money except for player/team options.

The Forbes story really shows that location and profile count for the value, not the players.

Lakers, most expensive but they are putting Sacre, Clarkson, Ellington, Kelly and Hill as their starting 5.

Knicks, a huge value, due to being the media center of the world.  Few could guess the starting 5 today for them, Carmelo and four obscure guys.

Chicago, big city and some recent success from the Jordan years and still an international brand.

Boston, 17 championships, but like three of the four teams above they are looking to win the lottery now.

    Clippers and Nets, location again.

Warriors, Rockets, Heat, Dallas, more big cities.

Thunder at 13, might have the most exciting players.

Atlanta versus Memphis could be the NBA Finals, their ranks are 22 and 25.

The value guess by Forbes doesn’t really mean a lot, and won’t mean anything to the salary cap.  League incomes, with the TV deals a huge part of that, define the salary cap.

Of the possible 2015 free agents, only LeBron, M Gasol, Duncan, Love and Aldridge deserve "max"money but many more will get it.  Duncan should keep playing, and will take much less so he has a good team around him.  15 or 20 players will be looking for it, but a team like Milwaukee giving "max"money to Brandon Knight or the Clippers with D Jordan seems too crazy.

Big Al could really be big news in free agency, if he wants out of Charlotte with his player option.  He won’t win with the Hornets but add his 20-10 to a contending team and he could get them a banner.  The Spurs or Hawks might be able to find the money to get Al Jefferson.
