This draft isn’t overflowing with superstar level upisde as it only houses a few notables: Russell, Towns, Kristaps and Mudiay. Mind you, these four mentioned has a lot of ‘ifs’ going against them to scratch their ceiling. I will say this however, it is infinitely deeper than what I previously forecasted with names such as Justin Anderson, Kelly Oubre Jr, Justice Winslow, Myles Turner, Stanley Johnson are just a few names that popped into my head. I partly think this has something to do with stock and exposure. All those mentioned were once predicted to be picked high on the lottery, as high as number one for Turner. But then things went south for him as his knees looked awkward and fragile. Stanley Johnson was for the most part of his college year quiet. I see guys like him as more of a complimentary player more than anything that can create a lot of buzz and get high on the draft if he’s on a winning team much like MKG. Oubre Jr had issues with getting off the bench early on as his motor was sometimes questionable. Anderson was the typical jack of all trades prospect that seem to pop come draft time- it’s a coin flip for those prospects really. With that said, this draft class has enough talent to be considered one of the deepest draft class that can be featured on NBA teams for the next decade.

This train of thought is wrong every year, and still every year people say things like this. You can’t tell if a draft is deep or not untill the players actually play the game! Players develope, players age, players grow, and players just do better in the nba sometimes! This draft was ridiculously deep from the start even with all the drop outs like Kris Dune and Poetle, probably one of the deepest in the past 10 years to be honest. Right off the bat guys like

    Towns

    Okafor

    Winslow

    Johnson

    Porzingis

    Hezonja

    Turner

    Mudaiy

    Russle

have all shown that they are capable of being all-star level players, and then the tier of good starters could be:

    Kaminski

    WCS

    Oubre

Rozier (looks great in summer league so far, so im giving him the benefit of the doubt as a possible Reggie Jackson type of player even though everyone dissed this pick)

    Postis

And has a bunch of guys who have played their butts off in summer league and might make an NBA roster who many people didn’t think would stick or play well off the bat:

    Micky

    Hunter

    Tokoto

    Harvey

    Connaughton

This should be an interesting draft class, because I can’t remember a draft in recent memory were players got to go to perfect situations for them. Mudaiy to the Nuggets, Hezonja to the Magic, Stanly to DET, Winslow to MIA, Towns and Okafor went to good places, Oubre to WAS, Portis to CHI, Russle to the Lakers, Turner to IND…all of these guys got drafted by franchises that will use them properly and will help progress their developement. The only picks that I don’t like where a player ended up is WCS to SAC and Lyles to UTA…and time is still on their sides. Should be a great class in the nba for years to come
