Here is the 1st round of the 2009 draft done over if the teams were to draft tomorrow
GUYS TAKEN IN THE 2ND ROUND LIKE DEJUAN BLAIR ARE TO NOT BE INCLUDED-1ST ROUNDERS ONLY

    1) LAC-Blake Griffin (last year he was drafted 1st)
Why: He has so much potential and I think they take the risk even after great seasons from Curry/Evans/Jennings

    2) MEM-Stephen Curry (7th)
Why: In a last second decision, they choose over Curry over Tyreke due to the fact that it’s harder to find a guy like Stephen then it is to find someone like Evans…they can replace Conley too

    3) OKC-Tyreke Evans (4th)
Why: They get quite the steal as Evans lands in their lap. They immediately become one of the most dangerous offenses in the league

    4) SAC-Brandon Jennings (10th)
Why: They get Udrih’s replacement after he averaged a solid 15 and 5 and shot almost 40% from 3 and erupted for 55 during one game

    5) MIN-Darren Collison (21st)
Why: In a close race with Flynn, Minnesota takes on CP3’s step-in and he instantly becomes a star

    6) MIN-James Harden (3rd)
Why: They don’t screw up again and draft 3 point guards…instead they take a savvy big 2-guard with a lot of skill and above average potential

    7) GS-Jonny Flynn (6th)
Why: They get the perfect in-transition point guard who can electrify on the fast break

    8) NYK-Ty Lawson (18th)
Why: They unsuccessfully try to trade up to get Curry but they’ll settle on this bottle of electricity…the glory days with Chris Duhon unfortunately end…sigh

    9) TOR-Omri Casspi (23rd)
Why: after the Turkoglu disaster, Toronto finds a replacement who can produce and provide solid offense

    10) MIL-Jrue Holiday (17th)
Why: After missing out on the premier point guards, they take the youngster from UCLA and look to develop him

    11) NJ-DeMar DeRozan (9th)
Why: they need a young guard who plays above the rim and Prokhorov squeals over in Moscow that DeMar fell to him all the way at 11

    12) CHA-Tyler Hansbrough (13th)
Why: Larry Brown gets a Carolina guy and some brute strength/interior scoring they badly need. Solid pick here

    13) IND-Rodrigue Beaubois (25th)
Why: The ugly lead guard situation in Indiana finally ends as they get their PG of the future

    14) PHO-Terrence Williams (11th)
Why: The Suns get an athlete who can’t shoot but under Dudley’s tutelage, he becomes an effective perimeter shooter and offensive spark off the bench

    15) DET-Taj Gibson (26th)
Why: They desperately need size in the pain, he brings that and an edge on defense

    16) Chi: Wayne Ellington (28th)
Why: A team in desperate need of a shooter finds themselves taking a need despite the lack of value in this pick

    17) PHI-Ricky Rubio (5th)
Why: They feel somewhat confident in Lou Williams but they feel they can store Rubio and hope he turns into a star for them

    18) MIN-Victor Claver (22nd)
Why: The typical T-Wolves: take an international player with their 3rd pick and store him overseas for a few years

    19) ATL-Toney Douglas (29th)
Why: a smart, tough, defensive point guard is the polar opposite of the aging Mike Bibby

    20) UTA: James Johnson (16th)
Why: Jerry Sloan’s tough coaching whips Johnson into shape and the Jazz feel content with taking Johnson at this spot

    21) NO: Jordan Hill (8th)
Why: the long-armed good shooting power forward gives the Hornets some depth in the post

    22) POR: Earl Clark (14th)
Why: versatility is important to the blazers and they add this big project with major upside

    23) SAC-Eric Maynor (20th)
Why: Maynor provides excellent steadiness and insurance at the point in case Jennings hits the sophomore wall

    24) DAL-Gerald Henderson (12th)
Why: Henderson provides athleticism but not a whole lot of offense…they Mavericks strongly consider Austin Daye but realize a 7’0’’ 196 pounder with a bad attitude may not be the best choice here

    25) OKC-Hasheem Thabeet (2nd)
Why: The Thunder take a flyer and hope Thabeet turns it around and becomes a reliable shot blocking big

    26) CHI-Austin Daye (15th)
Why: The Bulls don’t have many options but they think Daye has more upside then DeMarre Carroll or Christian Eyenga

    27) MEM-Jeff Teague (19th)
Why: the small combo guard falls all the way to 27 and the Grizzlies find themselves with a dependable backup PG

    28) MIN-BJ Mullens (24th)
Why: they feel Mullens can help out in the post in 2-3 years

    29) LAL-Christian Eyenga (30th)
Why: the Lakers don’t need help immediately and they think Eyenga can be of use down the road

    30) CLE-DeMarre Carroll (27th)
Why: the 6’7’’ 210 power forward without much of an offensive game to speak of falls all the way to the bottom of the round…if 2nd rounders were eligible to be drafted, expect Carroll to slip into the late 2nd round

    Biggest Fall: Hasheem Thabeet-23 spots
Biggest Rise: Darren Collison: 16 spots
Drafted about the same as he deserved: Tyler Hansbrough (13th to 12th)

Evans in OKC would NOT work.

Evans and Westbrook couldn’t work together, both need the ball. Curry would have been better because Westbrook can guard 2’s but James Harden was a good option though.

    1. Blake Griffin, LAC
Despite the injury you have to take him

    2. Tyreeke Evans. MEM
He would sell lots of jerseys as a popular local college player, Memphis gets to avoid the iverson situation, and find out if either Mayo or Evans really Are PG’s

    3. James Harden OKC
This might seem strange since he didn’t have as much of a standout rookie year as some of the other people in his class, but he fit a role on a playoff team, and that is Sam Presti’s way. he already has his stars in Durant and Westbrook, now its about fit. If He had the freedom to jack up shots like some of the other players in the lottery he would have been in the ROY Race

    4. Ricky Rubio SAC
With Evans Off the Board Rubio makes the most sense. the only reason he didn’t play in the NBA last year is because Kahn picked another PG with the next pick, and it was Minnesota. Rubio is also a better fit with kevin martin as he would be a better defender than curry

    5.Stephen Curry MIN
Minnesota Doesn’t screw this up and takes Curry, who’s outside shooting should help space the floor For the T wolves

    6. Terrence Williams MIN
Maybe this is because i kept hoping the nets would be good last year, but i saw a lot of nets games. Williams didn’t start out well, but he got it together for the final two weeks of the season. In this time he became the go to back court guy, and was better then Devin Harris. Think a young Paul Pierce. Plus its not like they are taking two PG’s again

    7. Darren Collison GSW
Normal rules can’t apply to warriors players as Don Nelson will find a way to screw up their development. As a 4 year college player collison probably has the least development to do and brings a maturity to the roster. Is he as good without the Chris Paul tutioring. probably not but at worst he becomes a solid backup

    8. Johnny Flynn NYK
I like really like Boubois here. he was great for the Mavs All year. Especially in the playoffs. However New York Gets the second of the two guys that they really wanted, even if he isn’t as good. D’Antoni doesn’t play “Bad Rookies” And the polish on his game is appreciated by all, even if he isn’t as good as the next Few PG’s Picked

    9.Roddy Boubois TOR
Continue Their trend Of picking Foreign Players. Boubois was a gem of a find for the Mavs. Think a cross between Rondo and Tony Parker, with the best jumper of the three. He would immediately Start for the raptors over calderon, Providing a semblance of defense in the back court. This is Probably too low as he might even be better then Curry

    10. Brandon Jennings MIL
The Third best PG in the draft slips to ten, because at the time their were concerns over attitude as well as skills. The Anonymity of Milwaukee and playing for a strict coach surely helped jennings develop into the player he became just as much as his natural talent and work ethic. if he goes to the warriors or Knicks, he is probably a massive bust or Iverson 2.0 talking about practice and defense

    11.Ty Lawson NJN
with all this planning for 2010 free agency, a speedy change of pace PG, who shoots threes is always welcome. especially at this sallary. Also Devin harris may be better as an off the ball combo guard.

    12. Jordan Hill CHA
Really started to develop when playing in a defined structure on the rockets. hopefully larry brown does the same. can fill in the Ty Thomas role, and charlotte can use their assets to get a better PG via Trade.

    13.Jrue Holiday IND
the pacers finally address their PG Need. Has a much better rookie year playing with Danny Granger and other players who can hit threes.

    14 Demar Derosen PHO
Probably Doesn’t play much, but was a good fast break finisher. would be being groomed as J Rich’s replacement needs to improve shooting and handle.

    15. Hasheem Thabeet. DET
On a team that needs size this bad, they have nothing to loose. there are no really special players left on the board, and Memphis has quite a crowded frontcourt. If 7 feet 6 fouls is all detroit get out of this pick, they would still be happy with it

To the first one, why would the Grizzles pass on Tyreke? And why would the Raptors select Casspi over DeRozan?

To the second one, when was the last time the Raptors selected a foreign player? And how the bloody heck would Jennings drop to ten again? Isn’t this a re-do?

Jennings still drops because all the teams above use different types of PG’s to suit their needs.

Can we agree jennings Doesn’t go top 5 over Griffin,Evans, Curry, and Harden due to OKC strategy. they got the guy the wanted and wouldn’t want to change it, or the results.

4.SAC don’t pick jennings, because him and kevin martin would be a defensive nightmare And Rubio should probably be in that top group.

      7. GSW jennings is to similar to ellis, the warriors go for collison who is a better shooter. Also GSW probably makes jennings into a talented bust, due to the fact that their coach is a crazy person, so they see what collison did and decide that that is enough for them

8.NYK probably would take jennings, so i let my bias get in the way. then Again they loved Flynn last year, and he didn’t have a completely terrible year running the triangle in minnesota. an offense that plays to none of his strengths.

      9. TOR the raptors seem to like foreign players. Maybe they think they will be more likley to stay when F/A comes around. Anyway. Boubois Was Huge for the mavs when he did play. He may even start this year over Jason Kidd. at some point. Also bigger, better defender. the raps need a defensive identity and boubois would be the start. plus he can already speak french

The Jazz would not select James Johnson. Yes, Sloan is a tough coach but he wont whip players into shape. If he did Koufos would not be such a softie, and Snyder would have worked out. Both have not. If that 1st situation is how 2009 draft played out I still think the Jazz would have selected Maynor. He was the perfect backup to Dwill. I really wish he was still part of the jazz and we traded Price instead. I loved watching Maynor play. I like Price, but I like Maynor more.

Alot of people Rip the Knicks but in thier defense:

They believed they were getting whatever top PG was coming in either Flynn or Curry with Minnesota having 2 picks in the top 6 and Golden State with the 7th pick

NOONE THOUGHT MINNESOTA WAS TAKING 2 PG’s and when they did NY panicked.
