Miami senior power forward Dwayne Collins is a hot name among NBA scouts with a real chance to go in the first round in this year’s draft. At the LeBron James Skills Academy last summer, Collins measured 6-7.5 (barefoot) with a 7-foot-4.5 wingspan.
Q: You put your name into the draft last year but decided to withdraw. How did the process go and what were you told to improve on?
A: Everything went really well. I got a lot of positive feedback from all the teams I worked out with, and am focused this year on controlling the boards both offensively and defensively.
Q: How would you describe yourself as a player?
A: I would describe myself as a physical, athletic power forward and shot blocker that plays each and every game leaving everything on the floor.
Q: Is there any specific player you have modeled your game after?
A: I would have to say Amar’e Stoudemire. In fact, this past summer, I attended Amare’s camp and it was a great experience.
Q: Who was your favorite player growing up?
A: It would have to be Shaq. Because he dunked everything in sight. I loved watching Shaq.
Q: The team is off to a great start and with ACC play just under way what do you feel you need to improve upon?
A: I think we need to just continue playing the way we are and build upon each game. We have to continue to play unselfishly and keep making the extra pass as we have been all season long and make sure everyone keeps playing to their strengths.
Q: With Jack McClinton graduating last year how has the team responded to losing its’ leader and primary scorer?
A: Jack was a great player and scorer. I think this year we are a more well balanced team with multiple threats. Whereas last year our offense revolved around the perimeter, this year our inside – outside game is much tougher for teams to defend.
Q: What has been your most memorable moment as a Cane?
A: Up until now it’s been making the Tournament in ’08 and advancing to the second round. Hopefully I have a different answer at the end of this year. (Wink).

I see him as a Craig Smith type player, a guy who is considered an undersized PF in the league but is a great hustle guy and willing rebounder who could be solid off the bench.
