Time to blow up the griz?

 Our claim to fame is always being good enough to be in the playoffs. Never close to good enough to win (We really had no chance against Cleveland).

I’d love to see them blow it up or try to make a big move. Griz should probably blow up, Hawks make a move.

 Blow up the grizz.. They have been Mediocore for years. The team is just bad "But they made the playoffs and I love Zach and Gasol, and Conley is one of the most underated point guards in the NBA" sooo what.. They need to blow it up because they are not going anywhere.

Gasol and Conley are one of the best PnR combos in the league. Definitely keep them together, but everyone else is up for grabs. Carter, Barnes, Allen, and Randolph (who’s still effective as a bulldog in the post) are getting old and IIRC, a couple of them have expiring deals. Jeff Green is the definition of an average player, as is Courtney Lee. Seems like they have a glut of young SF/PFs. Brandan Wright is a good piece, but as part of a rotation/first big off the bench, or a starter on a team that doesn’t need an offensive big. 

The question here is how to blow it up? I’m not sure they’d get much on the trade market for their aging vets; maybe second rounders or at most a late future first if they traded to a contender looking for one more piece to put them over the top. I think it’d be difficult to trade Green given his salary (though maybe with the raised cap it’s easier to swallow?), but I agree with Warbling- the team does need to make changes in the offseason. It’s better to be bad than mediocre.

 Keep Conley at all costs. If Durant is out of the question this offsesason, pursue Harrison Barnes and someone else who can stretch the floor. Gasol does not ever want to leave Memphis no matter how awful his team will be and the fans love him, the GM knows and respects that.

Don’t forget that Memphis are a smaller market team and they have been in the play offs for the last 5 seasons and stand a good chance to make it again. Do they risk blowing it up for a possible better future or do they carry on as they are whilst not realistic challengers they can have winning seasons, make nice play off revenue and win a series or two along the way. This keeps the crowds interested and income coming in.

If we trade Marc then we could lose some fans.  Z Bo has a fan following too, as does Tony Allen.  Z Bo and Tony are basically worth the money.  Zach offers solid value even if he can’t dominate every night.  He’s a war horse and a winner.  

Some other good values on this team this year have been Matt Barnes and Mario Chalmers.  They are saving our butts.  But, Mario is a free agent.  I think I would pay Mario instead of giving Conley a max deal.

If the Knicks want him, then I want Jose Calderon (as a solid passing and solid shooting backup to Mario Chalmers), Aron Aflalo as an upgrade at the 2 over Courtney Lee, and two future first round picks.  We basically need some picks.  We will lose TWO first rounders in the next few years.

Jeff Green and Courtney Lee will also be free agents after this season (along with Conley and Chalmers) so this team might look really different after this season.

A great scenario for the Grizzlies would be a post-season trade of Conley, Jeff Green, and Courtney Lee to the Knicks for Carmelo Anthony.  Then you resign Mario Chalmers.

Without really breaking up the core too much, you get your alpha scorer to go along with Big Marc and Zach.  

Starting five: Mario Chalmers, Tony Allen, Carmelo Anthony, Zach Randolph, and Marc Gasol.
