I saw Drummond one game in college and I knew he would be good.  He must of been REALLY bad in interviews to drop to 9.  I was so mad at the Cavs for passing on Drummond and Barnes for WAITERS.

 Honestly, is very easy to make mistakes in the draft, but the fact that he dropped to 9 to me is unacceptable.

I thought he should go 2 or 3. I kept hearing he was dropping around combine and i still didnt believe it.

 Inexcusable he slipped to 9. That said, he insisted in interviews that his playing style was that of Kevin Durant.

 He played pretty poorly at UConn, considering his huge size and athleticism advantage over competition, and this was associated with a widely documented attitude and motivation problem. Interviews compounded the popular opinion that he wouldn’t put the work in to tap into his potential and thats why he fell. But once he started seeing some money he got some motivation and he started actually rebounding and playing hard. With the way he acted in college and interviews it’s pretty understandable GM’s were conscerned with how he’d carry himself in the pros.

 I remember when Detroit took Drummond and I thought "Why take another big to clog the paint with Monroe?" They had a need at SF (that wasn’t addressed until this summer with Stanley Johnson) that never seemed to be of high priority. Drummond has proved a lot of us Pistons fans wrong with his slow and steady ascension to being one of the 5 best centers in the league. I’m not big on hypotheticals, but imagine if Joe Dumars took Kawhi Leonard in 2011 instead of Brandon Knight?!

Monroe was take 2 picks after Boogie Cousins in 2010… In the 2012 Draft Sacramento had the #5 overall pick & took Tomas Robinson, a Power Forward, b/c they already had a center… Detroit, after drafting Center Greg Monroe (#7) in 2010 & Guard Brandon Knight in 2011 (#8) turn around & draft Another Center in 2012 when they take Drummond (#9)…. 

Outside the Lottery you can think more position b/c obviously the team is better if they are drafting Later in the first round… But in the Lottery, a team MUST take the best player available b/c after suffering thru a Lottery eleigible Losing season you might strike gold… In the NBA great players are the foundation of great teams…

I always look for reasons why a player might not be reaching his potential and saw in Drummond a poor fit as far as college team goes and thought in the NBA, on the right team, could be a superstar. Glad the Pistons got him.
