J.P Tokoto…

 Any source on him being cut?  I know he refused to go to the d-league or overseas.  I thought the 76ers agreed to bring him into camp.

Here it says he’s not signing with the 6ers and will opt to play in the D-League or overseas.
What I get from that is that he’s latching onto the only leverage that he has: becoming a FA and getting to choose the team he plays for. The problem with that is that he assumes that he’s wanted and that he’s an NBA player, both of which I would not agree with. IMO, he should try to snatch up a contract in China before they get taken.

His combination or lack there of of skills is unorthodoxed and the skills don’t mesh well together .

 pros: defense intensity and athleticism/transition points and to a lesser appreciated degree he has above average passing ability for a wing…court vision needs some work, but its also above avg…too bad it does’nt matter because although he can create his own shot with his athleticism,he cannot shoot.

 cons: average ballhandling ability, below average jumper…not a two way player in the nba.

 I completely agree with the addition by subtraction statement for UNC. He wasn’t their best defender, Paige was. He shouldn’t have been but Tokoto was just one of those guys that criminally underachieved. Maybe that’s on Roy, I’m not close enough to the program but I think him being gone will help that team. 

If Paige is healthy and closer to the Soph version of himself, Jackson makes the Freshmen to Sophomore jump that a lot of guys make and Meeks/Johnson find a way to stay consistent, no reason UNC can’t get to a Final Four. 

Would love to see Hicks play less. I can’t stand watching him play for more than about 3 minutes at a time. He makes a lot happen when he’s out there, good and bad. It’s like 55-45 bad to good IMO. 

No I definitely think Tokoto gone helps UNC though, people see a big athletic high flying kid and assume he’s their best defender, thats typecasting all the way because while he should have been, he wasn’t. Wish they could’ve gotten Ingram. Damn

His defense is EXTREMELY overrated, just ask the following people who all abused him this past season:

Sam Dekker, Aaron Harrison, Jerian Grant, Justin Anderson, Wesley Saunders (Harvard), Michael Quallis and I am sure I am missing some.  

These guys all did essentially what they wanted to him at some point in the season last season.  What is the reason for this?  It isn’t his lack of physical attributes, it’s his MOTOR, he does not have one.  He takes plays off and does not go 100% of the time. 

He is also not a smart basketball player.  Shooting is not his strength and he kept trying to prove to scouts that it was by shooting the dumb fall away 13 foot jump shots.  Those shots would always interrupt the flow of the offense and not put our rebounders in a position to get the unexpected shots.  Not to mention, dude you are the best athlete on the floor 99 out of 100 games and can get to the rim whenever you want, why not do it?  

His claim to working on his shot I believe, he shot free throws a lot better his junior season.  But what he does not realize is that his offensive production would have increased had he just played to his strengths, and took the occasional open 3 and get to the rim whenever the opportunity presented itself.  

I doubt he makes the team.  He is bound for a career in europe unless he choses to play to his strengths and give 100% of his effort.  I almost threw up watching his lacksidasical (sp?) indifferent attitude in the Wisonsin game watching his HS buddy Sam Dekker do whatever the hell he wanted to him.  

He is one of the most underachieving players to wear the UNC uniform.  I said it.

i wouldnt consider it a free fall that he fell to 58… someone like montrezl harrell took a free fall.. not tokoto.. he was projected to go in the late 40’s-undrafted anyway… not a big shock there
