I don’t have an article to confirm it but it’s being reported by Adrian Wojnarowski, Hoopshype, and many other reliable sources that Denver is sending Ty Lawson to Houston for Kostas Papanikolaou, Pablo Prigioni, Joey Dorsey, Nick Johnson, and a protected 1st round pick.

I like this trade for both sides. Lawson has been able to thrive when put in a winning situation and adds even more fire power to an already very good Rocket team. Houston didn’t really have to give up too much immediate help for this trade either. Pretty obvious but Houston is going all in for that title run.

Denver is now able to start their rebuild and hand the reigns over to Emmanuel Mudiay. I’d love to see them get Skal Labissiere in the 2016 draft.

The West is now scary deep too. Quite possibly 6 teams (Warriors, Spurs, Clippers, Grizzlies, Thunder, Rockets) all have legitimate title shots now. Can’t ever remember a time where a conference was this deep at the top.

Thank god he didn’t go to the Knicks!

Good trade for both sides but not really though. Lawson is a very good PG. I’d say a step away from being elite and a likely all-star Cali ur player. Denver should have gotten more for him but mismanaged him and ended up waiting until his value was ruined instead of pulling the trigger when his value was higher.

Either way at least they got some good prospects from a good o organization from a development perspective. Kostas and Nick are both solid players now with good upside.

Well, Toronto fans should be dancing given that they get the lesser of the Nuggets-Knicks pick.

Denver should have made sure they got Donatas Motiejunas as well in the trade.

Houston made it to the western conference finals with 2 point guards way past their prime. I love the pick up for the rockets

I really wonder how Beverly is going to feel about this deal, Is it a sho-in that Lawson starts, or do you guys see a possiblity of him coming off the bench as a change of pace point guard while Beverly starts due to his defence.

    Wow

seeing Lawson finally beeing moved to a CONTENDER(!) really makes things a lot more interesting. The West is incredibly loaded now with up to 6 teams. I hope he stays healthy (ankles etc.) and he gets his time now to move over his situation at the moment. It’s easy to blame him for his actions lately but maybe he really needs help and was in a personal situation where he had other serious problems.

If Lawson stays out of trouble and healthy, the Rockets for sure should be considered contenders. They still managed to keep Motie and still haven’t used the much rumored move of Terrence Jones many thought would/will go through. They still need better backup interior bigs but the standings prediction in the west is almost impossible to predict right now.

I can both see conference standings with multiple teams beeing > 67 wins or better in the west and teams with 55 wins having a tough time having a playoff seed as well as A LOT of teams making it 55 – 59/60 games with teams like the Jazz, T-Wolves, Pelicans or Kings at least want to win some more games and injuries will always be there for any team. A late stretch 5-5 closing out the season could cost you everything.

I wonder if Ty did all those attitude stuff lately on purpose to lower his value so he could go to a contender…

Bingoooo! Because he knew Denver wouldn’t trade him unless it got back alot of value…plus before he started to act up he said he was going to leave Denver because that was a MAJOR rebuilding situation. As a Houston Rockets fan this move puts them among the elite teams vying for a Championship…#GoRockets

If he did then there were definitely better ways to go about it. Driving drunk and putting innocent people’s safety in jeapordy is never acceptable behavior and shouldn’t be rewarded. I still think he should be suspended to start next season.

So many people saying Houston still isn’t a contender is weird to me. They made it to the conference finals despite injuries to their starting PG and PF. Now they get both of them back and add a very good PG and people are saying they still aren’t a conteder.

Meanwhile everyone thinks Memphis is a contender despite the fact that they haven’t been out of the semi-finals in two years, didn’t really get better in the offseason (swapped Koufos for Wright and added a washed-up Barnes), Randolph and Tony Allen are 34 next year and will probably get worse, yet they are seen as the better team.

I understand that everyone loves Marc Gasol now and hates Dwight Howard, but this just seems wrong.

If Lawson keeps his head straight this trade seems like a straight up robbery for Houston. They didn’t really have to give up one player of consequence to get him, besides potentially the protected first round pick, which will likely be near the end of the first round anyway. Denver really screwed this up. There were way better offers on the table previously and they should have pulled the trigger earlier.

Well, the Grizzlies were looking good, then the Spurs got Aldridge, the Clippers retained DeAndre "Flip Flop" Jordan (Josh Smith was a good addition), and now the Rockets added Ty Lawson.  So, we are still in the top 6 or so, but we added around the edges (and subtracted around the edges too).

I have the Warriors as the top team with the Spurs right behind them.  After that, who knows?  I would put the Clippers, Thunder, Rockets, and Grizzlies in some order.

Griz had an overhyped offseason.  Kind of like the Cavs.  We have the same guys pretty much as last year — just for more money.

The Grizz didn’t add another X factor (swapping Koufos for Brandan Wright is a minor upgrade) and is now actually not that deep inside.  The Cavs are a year older and pricier.  Who knows?

The Spurs and Clippers got better.  The Rockets got better.  The Thunder will be better if they are healthy.  The Warriors traded David Lee (which I think will hurt a bit), but they are still loaded and have James McAdoo and Kevon Looney to sop up some minutes at backup power forward.

For the Griz?  Likely second round out.  Could lose in the first round.  If EVERYTHING goes right, yeah, we could go to the Finals but you could say that about the West’s Top 6.

For the Nuggets: They won’t win much but they should be fun to watch.  They now have two of my former ex-Tigers in Will Barton and Joey Dorsey.  Mudiay, Will, Gallo, Faried, and Nurkic with Dorsey off the bench gives you some high octane basketball (if one of these guys can hit a shot).  They could conceivably be better than the Lakers if things go wrong in LA and right in Denver.  If Minny can’t figure out if they are a perimeter team with Wiggins, Lavine, and Rubio, or a big man team with Big KAT and Pek then they might not improve as much as some think.

All we know, the top 6 West teams look great.  And two of those teams won’t get out of the first round.

Interesting that teams didn’t want to give up more for Lawson. I know he had an off the court incident recently but you would have liked to think at least one other team would have gave more than this. Rockets are a legit threat to win it all.

A lot of contenders already had there point guards in place, a team in rebuild may not want Lawson as they may feel his reputation isn’t good at the moment and would not want him rubbing off negatively on a young roster.

Denver haven’t really got the return they would have liked for Lawson but they can now hand over the keys to their point to Mudiay and have made a big saving on Lawson’s salary for 2016/17.

Denver have a decent core of Gallinari, Chandler and Faried to go with the upside of Nurkic and Mudiay but I can see them being a lottery team again next season and will be able to add a decent piece then and the pick from Houston gives them more draft options.

Lawson gives Houston a pass first PG, it takes the ball away from Harden but it helps them spread the floor really nicely. D12 will be a menace in the post, Harden almost demands a double team which gives Lawson options to move the ball to an open guy maybe Ariza and whoever they start at PF out of Jones and Dontas.

Lawson will know he needs to be on his best behaviour in Houston but won’t be the focal point there and will have All Stars and experienced veterans to keep him in line.

Houston have nice bench depth too with the likes of  Brewer and Beverley to play good minutes too.

Houston won 56 games last year with injuries to a lot of guys, okay Harden was in the form of his life. But having added Lawson and if D12 stays sound they could be a 60 win team.

The Soutwest Division looks to be crazily stacked next season.
