So, the Pelicans fined 3 million for not disclosing the injury history for Jrue Holiday. I think what is clear is the sixers knew he was damaged goods, but the Pelicans were obviously not aware. I’m ok with this fine. However, what i’m not ok with and here is where sixers are showing sleazy they are is suing the lakers for the Andrew Bynum deal. Both parties, including the entire basketball world, knew Bynum was damaged goods before this trade even went down. For the sixers to even attempt to get 3 million dollars back from this deal with the lakers is completly idiotic and insulting to any basketball fan. The only team that got screwed here were the Pelicans.

I don’t really understand how a team could not disclose something, when players take physicals as conditions for trades.

I am assuming that Bynum passed a Sixers physical, and Holliday passed a Pelicans physical which should absolve the trading party from any liability.

There are a lot of details to still come out, but if the Sixers owe the Pelicans anything then it only stands to reason that the Lakers would owe the Sixers something. The Sixers lost a lot of money on Bynum, who never played a minute with the team.

Why would the Lakers owe the 76ers anything?  Andrew Bynums injury and injury riddled past were well known when the 76ers acquired him.  I believe he was injured or recovering from surgery when they made the actual trade and reinjured bowling.  Lakers don’t owe the 76ers shit.

I don’ think they should, but at the same time I don’t think that the Sixers should owe the Pelicans anything.

If the players pass physicals they should be considered "buyer beware" from that point on.

Lakes don’t owe @#$@# to the sixers. Philly knew exactly what they were getting. For them to turn around and ask for any compensation after the bent the Pelicans over and gave it to them is just disgusting.

This is the multi – Billion $$$ world of sports – Every team has a Team of doctors – I’m quite sure New Orleans conducted a physical of Holiday – it’s not Phila’s responsibility to tell anyone anything… Just like it wasn’t the Lakers responsibility to tell Phila anything… And that Bynum trade DESTROYED Phila’s franchise & you never heard a peep out of them complaining until New Orleans cried… And I LUV the Bynum talk about how EVERY one knew he was damaged goods – he had just completed his 4th straight dominant season & by far his BEST season… In the 4 years before Phila traded for Bynum he played between 50 & 65 games Each year & played in EVERY one of the Lakers playoff games during those 4 years as well… Inhis final season w/ the Lakers he played 65 reg season games – All their playoff games as I mentioned & he Averaged 19 points, 12 rebounds 2 blocks & shot 56% FG% & he was 25 years old! Many analysts & experts predicted that Phila – who came within ONE game of meeting Miami in the Eastern Conference Finals a few months earlier in the 2012 playoffs – would immediately vault to the 2nd best team in the Conference but certainly no lower than 3rd behind Miami & Indiana b/c W/ Bynum just entering his prime there would be no Centers in the East to stop the 7 foot 300 lb Big Man… That trade Anhilitaed Phila & is the reason Hinkie is even in that job… B/c w/ Bynum missing all of 2013 Phila dropped to 34 wins & Doug Collins had a nervous breakdown & quit right before the 2013 NBA Draft…. Hinkie entered the picture just 26 months ago, made the Holliday trade which turned out to be Noel, Saric & another 1st round pick in 2017 & then with the Sixers pick at #11 Hinkie drafted MCW who they swapped for what will most likely be a Lakers Lottery pick… That entire organization turned over & that trade was made in those first few weeks so who knows who knew what – maybe Holliday concealed it so he could get the Uck out of there… But New Orleans conducted a physical just like Every team does so my issue is w/ New Orleans crying about it… The Sixers petitioning the League isn’t to actually screw the Lakers, it’s to draw attention to the Hypocrisy of the League Office b/c just like they rigged the Draft so the new owner could get the Uni-brow, the whole League is tired of the commissioner holding New Orleans new owner’s hand like a child…

They had been running into the ground since 2002. Hinkie just dug them a couple feet down in the dirt so they can make a triumphant rise from the ashes. At least they have some good young players even if 4 of them are big guys…

I am almost 30 years old and I have never seen a Sixers team that was capable of winning a title (They had a solid team in 01 that made the finals but clearly the Lakers were gonna crush them because they had more than one offensive option.) At least Hinkie is trying something different even though his plan will take 5 years it is better than fighting for the 8th seed for a decade straight with no chance of winning the title.

As you stated, EVERYONE knew that Andrew Bynum was damaged goods. This is a sleazy move indeed and it’s no wonder why Philly has found it difficult to build beyond the draft. What team or even free agent would want to deal with them when they are pulling moves like this? I was on board when Philly decided to blow up the Holiday-Iguodala-Young core as I believed it would never produce anything beyond a first or second round exit. The decisions that have followed, not so much. This just seems like a doomed attempt at making the money back they knew they were going to have to give to the Pelicans. At what point do we start referring to Sam Hinke as David Kahn 2.0? As for Bynum’s very-well publicized injury history which was apparently not made available to the 76ers…

Hoop76.com outlined all of the time he has missed over the last few years:

January 2008: Dislocated left kneecap. Missed 46 games and underwent arthroscopic surgery that offseason.

January 2009: Right medial collateral ligament tear. Missed 32 games. Injury unrelated to the dislocated knee but MCL tear suggested he was "loose-jointed" and "sensitive to contact injuries in the future," DiNubile told the Los Angeles Times.

November 2009: Right elbow strain. Missed two games.

February 2010: Left hip injury. Missed two games.

March 2010: Strained left Achilles tendon. Missed 13 games.

April 2010: Right knee hyperextension. Caused a previously diagnosed lateral meniscus tear to go from "very small" to "small." Played through the injury in the 2010 playoffs and underwent arthroscopic surgery in the offseason. Missed first 24 games of following season.

February 2011: Left bone bruise. Missed one game.

April 2011: Right knee hyperextension. Missed one game.

February 2012: Right knee discomfort. Received Synvisc injection. Missed no games.

If the Sixers were only fined $3 million then either the rules have changed or the medical misrepresentation was viewed as minor because I’ve seen cases such as these in the past were draft picks were given as compensation.

I know the Thunder had to give Boston a 2nd rounder for the Jeff Green situation but that is the only one I recall. I think in Philly’s situation where they have stockpiled so many second round picks the money is actually the more severe punishment than one of their 10 upcoming 2nd round picks over the next couple seasons.

Just think of how much Minnesota lost just because of negotiating with Joe Smith before they were allowed.

The 76ers should lose multiple draft picks because they got multiple firsts in return for Holiday. Those picks were 6th overall in 2013 and 10th overall in 2014 (traded to Orlando for 12th) who became Nerlens Noel and Elfird payton or Dario Saric depending on how you want to look at it. That’s A LOT of value. Thats worth a decade of second round picks. Ok, maybe I’m exaggerating but they should absolutely lose more than a couple second rounders.

I lost all respect for Phillys front office and will have a hard time ever really pulling for them after this.

A $3 mil fine was to shut up the whining New Orleans ownership – if there was Anything to this, Phila would have lost draft picks… Try thinking once in awhile, this is $Billion Business, no one is trying to make friends… You make a trade you do extensive physicals w/ MRI’s & you get the complete injury history of the player & your doctors contact the Docs treating the player previously and they discuss injury history – this is 101… New Orleans is trying to deflect b/c Holiday is a scrub – they were insane to make that trade – they could have a front court of noel & Davis & Saric…  If they wanted a PG they could have drafted MCW or Elfin Payton instead of Noel or Saric – it was an Incredibly dumb trade & considering Hinkie was a Brand new GM on the job for 4 weeks at the time FOUR WEEKS – how does a Rookie GM sucker your GM into that INSANE trade – Jrue Holiday for TWO LOTTERY picks???!?!?!?  Hinke must have hung up the phone, turned to his staff and said – "You are not going to UCKING Believe this!!!!      To those people saying that this wasnt anything sleazy by the 76’ers, and that if the player passes a physical for thier new team, there shouldnt be anything wrong with it: the pelicans claim is that Hlliday finished the 12-13 season ailing from a stress fracture (or stress ‘reaction’, a precursor to a fracture) and that the 76ers knew about it an did not tell the pelicans during their negotiations, which league rules state they must. it wasnt picked up by the physical because that occured 12 weeks after the end of the season and a stress fracture could heal by itself in 8 weeks and appear fine for the physical, but still be a nagging injury that could b much worse in the future and require surgery (as hollidays did). this is precisely why the league says that during trades teams need to disclose all health information known to them, which Hinkie apparently did not. i have no idea what evidence they have that he’s guilty, if there is definitive proof i think the penalty should be much worse, there may be just heresay and that might be why they were only fined 3 mil, which is a slap on the wrist. the accusation of la might just be an empty attempt to deflect some of the bad publicity, since other gm’s are probably looking down thier noses at hinkie and be a little distrustful of acquiring assets from him in the future. very doubtful la is even fined, everyone knew brittle bynum was a gamble. they wouldnt have held back anything.

To be traded in any league, you have to take a phyical. If they pass the physical, the trade goes through. Maybe the Pelicans should fine their doctor three million.

Does anyone know the full details on this?  Did the Sixers just not mention the stress fractures or is it more they didn’t disclose how long he had them? Just curious for a clearer picture.

Any transfer/trade in any sport would surely need the players involved to have a full medical to get the required insurance. A player may well be insured by his existing team but his new team’s insurers will require him to have a full medical if they are going to underwrite multi-million dollar contracts.
