Brandon Knight to get 5yr/70mil

 I believe he’s worth it despite being a homer. Here’s the thing. Brandon Knight is a Point Guard. Brandon Knight is a Shooting Guard. Brandon Knight is the definition of a high quality Combo Guard without limitations to not be worth the pay. Knight’s I.Q. for either position sets him apart from all of the guys in comparison to the skill he brings to he floor for being able to excel on and off the ball.

Well he’s still very young and coming off his season as pro, granted he’s on his 3rd team but I think he’s a above average player in fact he was a borderline Allstate with Milwaukee. He took a bit of a dip with Phoenix but he was coming over to a team with a lot makeover in the middle of the season and he was playing a different role with Bledsoe. I think he’s a very good two way player, can guard any backcourt player, good scorer, shooter, playmaker. He’s only going to get better, and Phoenix gave up a lot to trade for him. If I were Phoenix I would invest a lot in him. He’s not a franchise player but he’s certainty a big piece for building a contender going forward.

 I think he’s a good fit in Phoenix, should really thrive under Hornacek and that contract won’t look so bad once the cap jumps.

I have no problem with this contract and I think Bledsoe and Knight could make a hell of a backcourt down the line.

I think looking at his market value something in the 5 year 60-65mil range would be more like it so I think they overpayed for him slightly. He has some potential All Star years ahead of him I think his shot has really come around so he can space the floor when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands and that helps since he is playing in the Suns two guard attack. I think if he gambled less on defense he could become a lockdown defender on the perimeter which would take his game up another level so he still has potential to grow.

in the new cap though, that becomes great value. it basically will be equating to a 8.6 mill a year deal in todays cap which i think is a bargain for a player of his caliber. the ones that fall into the same bargain currently are mike conley and jeff teague.

I wouldn’t want to pay a non all-star over $10-12 million (Besides a good center), especially a scoring combo guard that you could probably get any year BUT it’s not a bad deal because the Suns have a very healthy salary cap situation. The length could be problematic, and I would have held out that 5th year unless needed. 

Knight’s upside could be Wizards Larry Hughes-ish level with a 3pt shot but probably without the 1st team defense. More than likely, he becomes Jamaal Crawford before he settled into becoming a great 6th man. Worst case he becomes a slightly better but overpaid OJ. Mayo. I think he’s a long term 2 that could give spot minutes at the point.
