The Lakers are in serious trouble, they need to make moves and fast. I have three players in mind that can help the Lakers in the three positions they need the most improvement in. My first player is a big to defend the paint, Marc Gasol via free agency, my second player is a swing man that can score and defend at the Small Forward spot, Tobias Harris via free agency, my third player is a defensive minded point guard with offensive skills, Reggie Jackson via free agency. all three of these players would be a wonderful addition to the Lakers team next season plus the draft picks they have next season the Lakers line up next season could look like this:

    Marc Gasol

    Julius Randle

    Tobias Harris

    Kobe Bryant

    Reggie Jackson

    Bench

    Robert Sacre

    Ed Davis

    Ryan Kelly

    Nick Young

    Jordan Clarkson

    Draft pick

    Draft pick

These Ten players would be the first 10 in rotation I think this is a realistic line-up for the Lakers

Woah, why didn’t the Lakers hire you as GM? BUT… why stop there. If theyes waited a little bit they could grab Lebron, Anthony Davis, Cousins, Curry, and many others as FA’s!

In all honesty, I don’t see the Lakers in being in any real trouble. Lakers need to sit tight and ride this season out. They are so bad they should keep their 1st pick (which is top 5 protected).

Remember Randle is out for the year and will be back next year, who I really rate as a player.

They will have no problem attracting FA’s to LA so I really doubt they will be down longer then this season.

You don’t think Memphis and Orlando will fork over the cash for Gasol and Harris?

Pshh…Lakers only chance of rebuilding will come via the draft

You must be realistic about this, this isn’t a video game; LeBron, Melo, Curry, Davis, or Cousins won’t leave there teams to come play for or with kobe. Jeanie Bus has already stated that kobe will be a laker until he says otherwise. So the lakers can’t target the biggest named players. They have to now build from the draft and via free agency because know teams want to trade with the Lakers

They have some narrow-minded people on this website but your "plan" is atrocious. The players you are targetting are good fits but you failed to account for a number of prominent factors at play and how they could make these proposals unrealistic. For one, why would these guys leave better situations to play for the Lakers with Kobe in gunner mode? Second, why would their teams let them go? Both Reggie Jackson and Tobias Harris are restricted free agents to be and their current teams can match any offer. Marc Gasol is an unrestricted free agent but the Grizzlies are a far better team, so why leave that for a rebuilding situation? These concerns make your proposal improbable.

Kupcheck has a history of avoiding restricted agents like Tobias Harris. I think the best plan is to get the best deals they can on great glue players. If they want a lot of money, don’t sign them. That way, when Kobe comes off the books, they’ll have decent players as a base so that the biggest FA’s would consider them.

Hooprumors ran ran a report that said Lance Stephenson and Lowry wanted to hear more from the Lakers and Isaiah Thomas wanted in. Good players still want to go to LA, but great ones won’t show up without good players present. This year they’ll get their top 5 pick and the next year the Suns will get it (top 3 protected). They’ll hope the CBA opens cap space and Kobe will be golfing and taking a hell of a lot of shots.

every offseason the Lakers plan is to sign the big-name free agents and then they end up with the Lins and Boozers. No way free agents would sign with the Lakers unless Kobe retires. Nobody wants to team up with a guy who’ll shoot a 35 footer for no reason. Best chance they have is to have another high draft pick next year and wait for Julius Randle.

This is the first offseason since ’96 that the Lakers have had cap space. And with that cap space, thsy signed the most physically dominant player in modern history aka Shaq.

There are rumors that the Spurs will make a strong push for Gasol. If he is going to leave Memphis – money being equal – it would seem that San Antonio would be a better bet. His game is also a better fit for their system. The way that the Lakers treated Pau Gasol for a couple of seasons would probably weigh in here, too. My guess is Marc Gasol – if he leaves Memphis – will end up with a contender. The rest of the OP’s list – eh, not a lot of difference makers. PS – Jordan Hill has one more year on his contract and has probably earned the right to stay in LA to see out the contract.

The one year left on Hills contract is a team option at $9mil.  I agree Hill has played pretty well so far this season, but not picking up his option and using the $9mil towards a big free agent will likely be considered by the Lakers.

The ironic thing about Marc Gasol is the Lakers had the rights to him but they were traded to Memphis when big brother Pau was traded for. If the Lakers had sent another first rounder in that deal and kept Marc Gasol, you just wonder how much better off they would have been now.

Bynum and the Gasol brothers would have been good for the 2009 and 2010 titles. There would have been no need for the D12 trade, Bynum’s issues would have been covered and I guess Pau Gasol would still be on board.

The pick being top 5 protected really means the Lakers are at the mercy of the lottery balls unless they are one of the worse couple of teams in the NBA. We assume that Philly will be the worse and OKC will pick up when KD and Westbrook are back but other teams could struggle as well and the Lakers could have to make a big decision or two about March. Would they shut down Kobe for the chance to protect the draft pick, how would Kobe take it, given his salary can they justify it would the team’s fans like it.

The Lakers almost need to ensure they keep this pick unless they suddenly pick up and the pick becomes outside the top 10/later lottery. But if they lose say the 6th/7th pick in a deep draft it could set them back.

I’d not be against the Lakers getting a top 3 lottery pick as it would be nice to see a top prospect on a big stage with Kobe and co. I know the conspiracy theorists would be there if the Lakers won top pick but if so why didn’t it happen this summer. If the Lakers got a top pick I’d really want them to draft and keep and not try and trade for a star player as they need to think long term.

Stick around and get a clue, newbie.  There is alot of knowledge here.  It is likely that many people who post have been playing, watching or coaching basketball longer than you have been alive.  Whether it is in this forum or pretty much anywhere in the world, throwing out blanket statements that people don’t  "no (?) &$#%#&@! " about any subject is a good way to look like a fool.

PS – 13 and 10 for $9 million is not the most horrible value in the NBA.  I think Hill has a better chance to be on the Lakers next year than Marc Gasol does.

Russell Westbrook will be a Laker in a couple years. Giving him the green light to shoot 30 times a game. They will get good draft picks the next couple years and there are 2-3 years out from being a contender.

I can see that. No matter what happens in OKC, you get the feeling that Westbrook would like to have his "own" team, where he is the unquestioned alpha dog.

The big question is in 2016 do they go into a post Kobe era, if he is still playing well do they ask him to give something back and not play for mega money in order they could have more FA room. Also you have the feeling will Kobe ever hand over the keys in effect to another player whilst he is on the team.

The Lakers put the team option on Jordan Hill to give them maximum flexability but I don’t think they trade him for a team to effectively get an expiring deal as Hill is a decent NBA player now and not on the worse deal possible.

As regards FAs, I’d guess the Lakers would ideally like to chase top draw guys and go all in for them. To get any decent RFA you have to virtually max them out and the Lakers may not want to possibly be left with a guy if his team decides not to match.

There are good FAs there next summer outside the very top level guys so the Lakers might have to chase one or two of these and get them in place with a view to landing a top FA when they become available.
