Rdf1212ParticipantWe all know about Derrick Rose’s injuries.. But could he be the first MVP to not be inducted into the HOF? I don’t think we will never see the DRose of before.. And I think that his chance at a HOF career is slim. Even at his young age.

WITNESS2014ParticipantAs much as I hate to say it, I don’t see Rose coming back to his MVP form. There is no telling to how good he will be once he finally comes back. Russell Westbrook came back to old form, but I cant think of any other point guard with that kind of injury, that was an elite athlete come back to that elite form. Being that Rose relies on his athleticism so much its hard to see him being a top pg without being having that explosiveness. He will be 26 at the start of next season so he still has some time to pad that resume if he does come back like the MVP version of himself. He might be able to change some parts of his game to help his team be better though. I wish him the best of luck.

HaleParticipantUnfortunately at this point it seems like it. The youngest MVP ever may be the only one to never make the HoF. That really sucks.

GrandmamaParticipantHe’ll be 26 beginning next year, so he definitely has time to build on his resume. The big question is, will he be the same player? If this year was any indication, probably not. So sh*tty seeing superstars injured in their prime.

LitteringAnd…Participant"I don’t think that we will never see the Drose of before"…sorry I wouldn’t usually grammar nazi out, but what are you saying? Because that’s actually saying "I think we might see the Drose of before". I assume what you really mean is that will will likely not see him return to his previous level?

Magic JordanParticipantif you simply ignore the N he clearly didn’t mean to include on the (N)ever part, it makes total sense.

ksmith9ParticipantThis is so sad. Back in Rose’s good years he was truly amazing to watch. I don’t have full cable but for some reason I get Chicago teams through my cable network. Watching Rose play was truly breath taking. He was so fluid and scored at his will. His dunks were spectacular, and he even got very good at the three point shot towards the end before his injury. I pray he comes back fully healthy and has no other issues. When I watch him or Steph Curry I just sit back, because it is like paying for a movie.
On an off note: It’s sad that soo many electrifying athletes are pegged with injuries. Luckily Lebron has missed the bug, but as a whole it seems the more naturally you are at playing a game the more likely you are at getting injured…Between Rose, and Curry(who we all know is an injury waiting to happen), and as a Seattle fan watching Percy, I just say "Please don’t go down on this play." Sucks that players of this caliber get dampered by injury

KingoftheOceanCourtParticipantI think if he comes back as a decent player, he’s not all that far from already making the hall:
– he was an NCAA all-american, played in the tournament final as the best player on his team, was NBA rookie of the year, won an MVP award, and has three all-star appearances
– the 2010-2011 season of his career was really great: he was among the top 10 in points, assists, win shares, and PER. He also had some decent stats in a limited 2011-2012
I know there’s a site somewhere that either measures or used to measure the likelihood of someone making the hall, but I can’t find it. Regardless, I think a few more good years, especially if the Bulls have post-season success, will vault him into the hall.

tuck243ParticipantYear?? He seemed to be MORE explosive than he was before the injury… If the other knee heal just the same I don’t see how he’s unable to be dominant. Obviously he wasn’t shooting the ball well in those games, but I didn’t think he lost a step more so taking bad shots. If he’s able to stay injury free (big if) I don’t see how you wouldn’t have faith that he will return to his former self. It takes a while to get acclimated to playing again… As long as he doesn’t get injured next year I think he should be fine

omphalosParticipantLets remember ACLs are a two year injury, and because they didn’t cut his meniscus he shouldn’t suffer any ill effects in the long term. As long as he can get over his mental hurdles there’s no reason he can’t be the same player and make the Hall.
If Mirotic is the real deal and Noah can stay healthy there’s no reason the Bulls can’t get a championship, which would propel Rose into the Hall for sure.

HaleParticipantExcept people were already worried about his mental state after the first injury so after two it’s very likely hurt his confidence a great deal. I’m probably the biggest Rose fan on this forum and I absolutely want him to come back better than ever but he was awful this season and will be rustier/possibly lacking confidence next year.

jaysmith1987ParticipantDrose was definately an exciting player to watch but I think his career has been somewhat overated. I saw last year Nate Robinson step in his place and play outstanding and get the bulls in a good playoff seed. This year I am seeing DJ Augustin who is a decent back up look terrific. I wonder how much of Drose is actually attributed to the system and how he would have faired playing with a team that actually had another star player. I think if he can come back healthy with the way Thibodeau is getting his team to play and making average players look great I think Rose will be a 20 point scorer and likely reach the hall of fame even if he just slides in. The injury just stops the talk of him being one of the greatest point guards of all time.

WITNESS2014ParticipantAnother thing you have to think about is that his competition is only getting stronger with the new batch of pgs that haven’t even hit their prime yet like Wall, Irving, Lilliard. Then you still have Curry, Paul, Westbrook, Williams, Rondo. A healthy Rose would be great for the Eastern Conference.

FourParticipantAbout him being overrated but I am not as sure he’s likely to reach the HOF. It’s not like he had a long career before the injury but we saw his body of work. He was a great player and may well be a great player again. But he had one fantastic season where he won the "MVP" – an I put that in quotation marks because LBJ had the better year by every measurable standard but assists where Rose nipped him 7.7 to 7.0 – and aside from that he’s been great but not transcendent.

chrispaulwallParticipantWell, of course there’s no way to know, but I just really hope he proves all (firm) nonbelievers wrong. I miss watching him play so badly.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThere’s no way in hell a healthy Derrick Rose is overrated. The Bulls won 55 games the year after MJ retired. Was he overrated too? The Bulls will always be a solid team because of the way they defend, rebound and the system they run, but let’s be real… They’re not a championship contender without Rose. When healthy, Rose is a top ten player and one of the few true superstars in the NBA.
I see no reason why Rose can’t reach MVP status again once he shakes off the rust. Physically, I see no limitations in his game. There was nothing wrong with his reconstructed knee and he’s currently hit the two year mark. His left leg is probably stronger than his right at this point. And the meniscus tear he suffered won’t affect his athleticism at all, especially since they were able to save it and not cut it out.
Unless there’s something wrong with his body that he can’t prevent or it’s just not built to withstand the grind of a NBA season, I see no reason why he won’t get back to that superstar level.
