I don’t think you can compare the nets and pacers on a player by player basis. The nets are old and slow and the pacers are young, physcial, and play good D. I put the nets at 4 in the East and may get 2 wins against Miami in the second round (if they advance).

I think regular season they will end as 5 seed but still could make the eastern finals as they have now what it takes to win playoff series as opposed to last season

1) Lawrence Frank was essentially the defensive coordinator with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce in 2011. He is going to be on Jason Kidd’s staff, so there is already a familiarity with what is going to be done defensively. Joe Johnson played for Mike Woodson. These are guys who know what proper NBA defense is, and there is no reason to believe they won’t be as good defensively as Boston was this past season which was certainly good enough to compete for a title.

2) The Nets are not done assembling their roster. Just as Ray Allen, Udonis Haslem, Shane Battier, and Mike Miller took less to go to Miami, there will guys take less to sign with the Nets. Elton Brand, Mo Williams, Devin Harris, Mike Dunleavy, Kenyon Martin, and Stephen Jackson can still play, but can they get paid? Roger Mason, Anthony Morrow, and Boobie Gibson can shoot. Ronnie Brewer and Devin Ebanks can defend. Zaza Pachulia, Jason Collins, Joel Przybilla, and Jermaine O’Neal are big. The options are not going to be slim.

Indiana gives Miami fits because Roy Hibbert and David West can put up star numbers against smaller defenders. Memphis rolled OKC because Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol brutalized the Thunder big men. Brooklyn can be that kind of team if Garnett stays healthy. I think Garnett’s health will be dependent upon them adding more depth up front so that he isn’t playing more than 30 minutes per game, but I have no doubt as of now that the Nets will be able to do so.

I think people are underrated the Nets right now. Of course, on paper they seem very good and we still need to see them play but there’s no doubt in my mind that if Deron Williams plays the way he used to and KG can stay healthy, they are in the same category as the Heat, Pacers, and Bulls.

Billy King should really be fired. I really don’t know he even got a job after what he did to the sixers.

If the Nets can catch Miami in the Eastern Conference Finals after another brutal series with Indiana during the Eastern Semis, for example, I could see the Nets having their way in the paint to the point they could upset a banged up Miami.

Getting to the second round seems like the most likely outcome.
