Brandon Bass on the block

i dont think your first trade adds up carter makes more then richardson and bass makes more then hill, so salaries are probably off. Plus hill accepted less money to be in phoenix and he is a case where i think loyalty would win out unless he really wanted to return to orlando again.

Brandon Bass is a much better player than he’s given credit for. It’s disgusting how little SVG uses Bass and even Ryan Anderson, and seems content with Rashard Lewis being eaten alive night after night on the defensive end. Not to mention Gortat and Howard in together is a nightmare since neither can hit a mid range jumper to save their lives. SVG really needs to move Rashard to SF more often and allow Bass and Anderson to play. Bass and Anderson are the perfect complements to Dwight Howard. Anderson is the obvious complement with his shooting range, but people don’t realize how underrated Bass’s mid range shot is. He’s pretty money in the mid range game. He also brings more toughness defensively than Anderson.

How true… Rashard does get eaten alive man… Brandon Bass is a tough player who is not afraid to bang it down low unlike Lewis… Lewis does have more offensive weapons but Dwight Howard needs a lot of support downlow and Lewis couldn’t give that to him… Bass, I thought, should have gotten more PT…

Also SVG ignores Rashard’s defensive deficiencies down low because he likes his fit on offense and his ability to keep the lane open. While it’s true his 3 point range drags the 4 out and gives Howard more room to operate it isn’t that huge of an advantage. Both Bass and Anderson are good enough shooters to keep the floor spaced. You don’t necessarily need 3 point range to keep the lane unclogged. All you need is someone who can knock down a mid range shot. Both Bass and Anderson can. Also as much as he has a speed and quickness advantage over 4’s, Rashard doesn’t drive it nearly as much as he should although a lot of this has to do with the fact that he isn’t a strong finisher.

Brandon Bass to New Jersey for a 2nd round pick likely to be no worse than 40. Why would that not work? Orlando saves 8 million in salary and tax while New Jersey gets a real complement for Favors at the PF spot.

Why couldn’t Gortat to Cleveland for West’s non-guaranteed contract and one of the picks the Heat sent them work?

The problem is that Otis Smith is enamored with Gortat being an emergency plan. The problem is that Dwight Howard has never shown and history of injury issues. While it’s a luxury to have a backup like Gortat should Howard go down you have to consider how expensive it is for them just to keep around an insurance policy. The problem is that Gortat can’t play with Howard since both are limited beyond 5 feet of the basket, so essentially on a nightly basis you are paying starter money to a guy who might only get 10 minutes a game. I guess if Daniel Orton didn’t look like absolute trash in SL it might be easier to part with Gortat. While you never want to put stock in SL, Orton looked like someone who would average 3.4 ppg even if he were a starter. He’s basically big with zero skills and lazy attitude. I guess if Orlando can find a cheaper backup they can move Gortat. Maybe you could trade Gortat to Atlanta for Zaza Pachulia and Jeff Teague. Gortat gives Atlanta the coveted center they want and they can take Gortat’s contract because of the Childress TPE, and Orlando clears off Gortat’s huge contract and gets a more financially sensible backup to Dwight and a nice young prospect. The Magic don’t need a big minutes guy. They just need someone to hold fort as Dwight needs a breather. Gortat is extremely overpaid for that basic role.

You can have a $6 million emergency plan for Dwight Howard. If Howard gets hurt, Orlando’s year is over. They probably make the playoffs, but without Howard they are the Knicks. There is no added value to paying Gortat $6 million over the minimum or around that amount they would pay Theo Ratliff, Josh Boone, Kwame Brown, or Brian Skinner. Their hopes are gone if Howard goes down, so they might as well get a higher pick and add talent. Their situation is much worse for matching Redick’s offer. It is a lot of bad money. The only one on that team who isn’t overpaid is Howard. It isn’t a sustainable situation.

Well I heard Toronto wants Barnes in a sign and trade, and i could see Orlando wanting Calderon, who is a true point guard, which the magic don’t have and is a good shooter which spreads the floor for dwight howard, and he also isnt good at defense, but having D12 behind him won’t really matter to much. Now Calderon could be traded for Barnes and I’d like to have Bass in there too, as he can be the low post presence they need. So, in the end, I’d like to see a Calderon and Evans(expiring) for Bass and Barnes(S&T)..

Orlando doesn’t need expiring deals, they need the savings for this year. Vince Carter will be bought out for $4 million next summer. It might be the last order of business before a lockout, but it is going to happen. That and Redick’s front-loaded contract makes life easier for them going forward, but they are looking at a $20 million tax bill for this season. One has to believe that is going to be a reason Gortat and Bass will be sold off for picks to a team with cap space. Why would they take back a contract?

well instead of trading evans’ expiring contract, how about the Raps throw in their trade exemption?
