2025 Summer League Thread

I really hope Edgecombe and Bailey both show out in tonights game. I expect Bailey to try to score 50 and shutup all those “experts” critisism,. These two players got trashed during the draft process.

Oh I didnt realize they traded for Cam Whitmore. Thats a great fit but there are a bunch of wings/forwards on that team and it m aybe tough for him to get a featured role. Justin Champagnie is a player for whatever reason they just wouldnt play last year he only averaged 21 minutes per game and played 60 games but he still led the team in win shares. Whitmores been tryintg to earn rotation minutes in one of the toughest enviroments in the league in Houston so hes gonna bring a different level of competitiveness to the Wizards.

First half Jameer Nelson Jr has been the best player. Dylan Harper not playing tonight.

This has been a terrible game.

Pelle Larsson looks phenomenal. Might be too good for this setting. He looked frustrated or like he didnt want to be here during the halftime interveiw he did. He’s gonna have a huge year for Miami.

Kasparus only stats in this game has been 2 turnovers.

Carter Bryant in SL looks alot like Carter Bryant in college. Underwhelming and leaves you wanting more. The way he moves around the floor and when he makes shots its just so fluid you cant help but think hes got this massive cieling. But most of the time when he shoots he misses and hes just not productive at this point.

Kyra Lewis Jr. sighting (former Pelicans lottery pick). He still cant shoot. I compared Fears to him earlier in the pre draft process and said he would have similar issues if he landed on the Pelicans.

Big lineup here with Johni Broome starting at PF next to Adam Bona. Broome already showing the shot is legit knocking down a three.

Walter Clayton Jr was such a good pick by the Jazz. Hes gonna be so good.

VJ’s pull up mid range jumpshot looks unguardauble. I wonder why we didnt consistently see that in college.

Houston’s L.J. Cryer is lighting it up for Golden State right now. He’s made 4 three’s. I really wanted Cryer to end up with the Raptors but Alijah Martin is probably the better pick because of the added athletisism. Cryer’s explosive shooting and Houston defensive pedigree should make him a great pro. Theres gonna be alot of good undrafted players from this draft.\

Anyone know why Isaiah Mobley hasnt been able to find an NBA role? He seems like a very valuable player. He has good size and length, and is a good passer for the position. Hopefully he sticks with the Warriors.

Say what you want about Ace Bailey, but he makes impossible plays that only 1% of the league can make and does it multiple times per game and hes not even 20. Offensive rebound into a step back one footed fadeaway. Who’s doing that?

I had him in fantasy last year. He’s a pure scorer, wnen they get him minutes and touches he puts up points. I don’t watch Utah so I’m not sure why he doesnt get consistent minutes but maybe with Collins gone hell get a consistent role.

Im hearing Hugo Gonzalez looks amazing right now and the Celtics feel like they have the steal of the draft. If Hugo keeps this up and Kasparus continues to struggle its going to be really tough for this major international prospects to not go the college route. If Hugo went to Illinois in place of Kasparus who knows where he would have gotten picked.

Well Zikarsky is behind Joan Beringer right now on the Wolves SL roster which is not a good spot for him to be because Beringer looks like one of the steals of the draft. Sometimes its hard to tell just how quick or athletic a player is when they are playing in a foriegn league. Its hard to determine the game speed and athletisism of the other players. Well Beringer is still freakishly athletic at this level and his defensive positioning is special.

Raptors 1st Summer League game went about as good as possible. Its really not fair to be completely honest because they have 7 players on this team that played together all last season 6 of which were in the teams rotation at times.They have chemistry that other teams just can’t compete with. I know people say not to get too excited about Summer League but theres alot of good to take away from that game.

CMB did not play (abductor strain) but should play in game 2 on Saturday.

Alijah Martin was phenomenal. He’s got some Josh Hart to his game. Played excellent defense, was very physical, got a poster dunk, shot the ball well and had 5 assists. Was also +36. He fit in seamlessly with our other young players.

Ulrich Chomche played very well. He is physical and athletic, very annoying player to play against with his length and quickness. Also seemed solid and strong, He might actually end up being an NBA player for us.

Mogbo, Shead and Walter all looked great which is to be expected. Mogbo still did not show great touch but he did dunk everything and if you can’t finish your floaters or layups dunking is a good idea. Walter looks much stronger and decisive.

Also just a cherry on top Noa Essengue did not play well. He was not ready for Toronto’s identity of aggressive defense and had a whopping 7 turnovers. As a Raptors fan it would have been nice to see CMB go head to head against him but I’m just happy he didn’t go off tonight. He had some good moments but his mechanics are inconsistent and you can clearly see he’s not used to this level of competition/game speed. Hes absolutely massive though, true 7 footer.

Bulls had 34 turnovers. Raptors are going to be real problem next year. All these young players are gonna create some serious internal competition.

He’s the mopst matketable player in the class besides Cooper. He plays exactly like Jokic but with more athletisism. I was hoping since they worked him out that Toronto would into the 1st round to get him with one of the Brooklyn picks or the late OKC pick but Portland was one step ahead of everyone and picked him high. I think he’s gonna be an amazing player and great fit for Portland.

Who wants Donavan Clingan?

He’s the mopst matketable player in the class besides Cooper. He plays exactly like Jokic but with more athletisism. So its only been two games now outside of college and the first game he was rusty but CMB is very good. He’s so calm and patient and he reads everything. You know ever since Draymond Green has been in the playoffs weve been comparing players to him, usually tweeners. I think CMB is the one. He’s not a Draymond Clone but he does alot of the same things without being such a headcase. Very excited about CMB. Toronto’s going to be really good next year.

Ulrich Chomche is way further along than anyone expected him to be at this point. He’s in the same tier talent wise as Maluach and Beringer. It will be very interesting to see how these three develop. I think Beringer is the best prospect but Chomche has a cheat code being in the Raptors organization.

Things are looking bad for the Pelicans already. Derik Queen is going to be out for 3 months with a wrist injury. So he’s not getting any shots up this summer at the very least.

I advise everyone tunes into this Raptors/Kings SL game, it should be a war. Alot of people outside of Canada are not aware of whats going on in Toronto. The culture has been reset completely. Nobody gets on the court if they arent playing a certain brand of physical pressure defence and it spilled over from the main team in the 2nd half of the season where they had a top 10 defence while tanking. Players get yanked off the court for missing defensive responsibilities and its great.

Just to prepare everybody in advanced for this game ‘on paper’ Nique Clifford is probably the last person in this Summer League tournament you want to constantly be pressuring and guarding full court. Of all the prospects in this years draft class Nique is probably the one I watched the most outside of Flagg, Harper and Bailey. I’m a big fan of Mountain West basketball because the teams are very well coached and do not rely on raw talent like the major conferences. Utah St, Boise St and New Mexico contantly pressured teams in a similar fashion as the Raptors and throughout the course of this season Clifford has experienced and solved this defense many times resulting in his team Colorado St winning the MWC Championship.

Whether or not they get him to crack in this game like they have all the other teams remains to be seen but the problem with playing this style every night all game long is fatigue. See the Kings arent playing this brand every night. Raptors are. So ‘on paper’ the Kings should be fresher. It becomes a battle of attrition and thats why you see a player like Jakobe Walter or Jamaal Shead end up getting weak legs and no lift on his jumpshot.

The Kings also have Devin Carter another gritty guard and Maxime Raynuad who will be able to make smart decisions and help his guards out of trouble. This should be a very fun matcghup and challenge for both squads and for those who say SL doesnt matter I would suggest they tune into this competition.
