So whats the deal with Ricky Rubio? I haven't gotten a chance to watch any tape on him. I've heard that he is the next Steve Nash type, and I've heard that he hasn't even averaged double digit points or assists. So whats the deal with him? He obviously isn't projected in the top 5 for no reason. Whats so special about him?
He's been playing professionally since 14, which really says something about his ability. He is a very crafty passer and has a very high basketball IQ. Though not incredibly athletic, hes athletic enough and his shot could use a little work but it will improve. Really quick hands on defense, gets a lot of steals.
In my mind the best player in this draft hands down. I'd take him over Blake Griffin, but I'm in the few on this one. The kids just ahead of his time and will make a serious splash in this league.
If he had such court vision, shouldn't he have averaged double digits in assists in an average league?
First, this is an 18 year old kid, we don't know what his ceiling his, what he can improve and what not so i basically compare his current skills to the skills Nash had when he started his career.
On the positive side he is already a way better defender than Nash ever was, very good at anticipating moves and interfering.Rubio has excellent vision and ballhandling but he is not playing at the same "speed" as Nash already was at a young age(i'm talking more about the hands than the legs), he is much more like Maravich in the way he executes his plays/tricks.
The biggest difference is that Nash was already an excellent shooter coming into the league and didn't shy away from going for the circus shot.Rubio can hit the 3 when he gets a good look but his jumper overall is pretty shaky and the question if the improvement he is definietly making wouldn't be counterbalanced by playing against more athletic defenders and having more frequently a hand in the face.
If this 18 year old can eliminate his weaknesses he could become an all-star for sure(even with his less than average athleticism) but if not the flaws in his game could become very troubling.
It would be way smarter to stay in Spain, save the money, become a better player and come back in two years(when he i still just 20).
So, in your guy's opinion, he would be better off if he could sit for a year or 2?
hed be better off staying for another year or 2 to work on his defense against nba caliber pg and cut down his turnovers..also to learn to finish better with contact..has good potential tough...auber- you would prob be fired within the year if you were gm and picked him over blake
Rubio will be All-star!!!
youre baseing this on you tube highlights you seen and a average olympics and from what u read?..or the games you seen him in spain?..im baseing it off of the games ive seen him play this and last season in spain
When do the european players get evaluated athletically? I would like the know Rubio and Jennings' speed and verticals. Also I want to know how much each of them can bench press.
You should watch his highlights. Even though they are highlights it is entertain the watch him play d. The way he moves, and his basketball IQ show. He understand the game so well it is incredible. He had some very good moves in the Olympics, and a lot of USA players were impressed by him. He also has been playing pro basketball, and for the spanish national team for a couple years.
Rubio gained even more prestige after his strong showing against the U.S. in the olympics. He doesnt need to sit or stay in Europe. He can contribute now and needs NBA competition to elevate his game.
on Rubio and it was very good and someone already posted that link on another forum for Rubio, but it had a part in it that made sense saying that, "Any GM picking Rubio shouldn't expect the All-Star Form at least until 2 years so basically it'd be better if he just played in the NBA and learned there for 2 years then go back to Europe even if they will consider him a bust since NBA Fans are so eager to see the talent come
yep ti posted that..the article talked About the big flaws he has liek defense against athletic quick pg and how he leads spain in turnovers....also another stated how fans and other people are hyping his olympic performance when 1. he averaged 4pts 3ast and 2 turnovers while playing alot of min and 2 the name carlos arroyo..the olympics is not the nba and how alot of coahs sit you down when you turn the ball overalot....that article gave the best assesment out of any other ive read..so to all the people who just go by the highlight tapres( in which anyone can look good in a highlight tape) yall need to read the article so you can know about his weaknesses as well as his strengths
