Bulls on Draft Day
They have two 1st round picks and a couple coveted guards. I'm thinking they should package a guard and try to go after a big( Bosh, Amar'e, Jefferson etc). If they can get one of these all-star caliber bigs, I think they have a chance to get even farther in the playoffs. If only they had the salary flexibility to sign Boozer.
I'm also hoping that they keep one pick, and draft Nick Calathes. If they happen to package Hinrich, Calathes would be the perfect replacement, a big combo guard.
If they are unable to package for a premier big, then what they should do is draft BJ Mullens, 16th pick, and have him learn from Brad Miller for a year since his contract will be up. With the 26th pick they should still draft Calathes.
What do you guys think?
#1 - Inside Presence
DeJuan Blair vs. Tyler Hansbrough vs. James Johnson
Blair has the better all-around stats and game. He would be a PITTBull in the Paint for the Bulls.
#2 - Wing Defender
Sam Young vs. Terrence Williams vs. Chase Budinger vs. Wayne Ellington vs. Gerald Henderson
It's really kind of a toss up. TWILL is probably the better all-around player, but Young and Henderson aren't far behind. Personally, I would favor TWILL and/or Sam Young. Either one is sure to be a PITTBull on the Perimeter for the Bulls.
A. PITTBull please take it easy on the coffee. We get it you like "PITTBulls" Blair and Young. Blair has already been talked to death so I'll comment on Young instead. Hes 24, his upside is small and he may not be able to be more than a role player. Some of the other players have the time to develop and could be better down the road.
B. Deng and Hinrichs contracts would total about $20 mil for next season. Thats roughly $4-5 mil more than Bosh or Stoudemire. We would only have to trade one plus a young guy(s) and maybe an expiring contract.
C. Im in favor of trading Thomas since he thinks hes a small forward when we need him to play POWER forward. No more 15 to 20 foot shots. He also is too small to hold up in the low post so unless he gains 20 pounds he should be gone. Ive also heard from ESPN.com hes a little disgruntled so we may have to ship him out anyway.
D. No way we can sign Wade Bosh and Rose plus other decent players without going way over the luxury tax. I dont know if the Bulls would be willing to do that though it would be a ridiculous line up. (PITTBulls plan does sound good though there may be trouble signing Wade. I think there are rules to signing FA when you are over the cap)
E. We should only draft a PG if we immediately ship him out in a trade. I like Hinrich as a backup PG who can also play SG. No need to waste a first round pick on someone who would barely see the court.
F. I dont know what to make of Salmons. For the next two years we have a good player for a good contract but what happens when its up. How much will he ask for? He could suffer from Gordon Syndrome and think hes worth $10-12 mil.
The Bulls can have Rose-Wade-Bosh on the same team, if they go to a Lakers, Celtics and Spurs size payroll. Winning isn't cheap, so step up John Paxson, Gar Forman and Big Jer. Those are the last 3 NBA Champs. They all have 3 stars on there team and they all have high payrolls.
They would have to get rid of BG7, Deng and Thomas to make this happen, among other guys. I have shown how to do this several times on here already.
DeJuan Blair and Sam Young fit the Bulls needs quite nicely, so they are worth talking about.
He just BLEW OFF the BULLS WORKOUT this weekend.
DeJuan Blair...Let's Go!!!
John Paxson and Gar Forman,
Do you want HEART, TOUGHNESS and INSTINCTS (DeJuan Blair) or HEIGHT, POTENTIAL and LOW BASKETBALL IQ (B.J. Mullens...aka Eddy Curry)?
The choice is easy...it's DeJuan Blair. I'm tired of hearing about his size and his knees. The kid bounced back from his knee issues by winning a state title in high school, then freshman of the year in the Big East, then player of the year in the Big-East (after dominating the likes of Thabeet, Monroe and Harangody), and now he's headed to the NBA. You shouldn't try to predict injuries or judge measurements, just go with what you see during 5 on 5 action. This kid is what I like to call a "PITTBull" in the paint. Not only is that a clever play on words, but more importantly it's the truth.
I figure his NBA career puts him somewhere between Paul Millsap and Wes Unseld.
Again, the choice is easy. The Bulls need TOUGHNESS, ATHLETICISM and SIZE on the perimeter. That's Sam Young. Coincidentally, he also went to Pitt and played with DeJuan Blair. No, I'm not an alum there. I just know who the Bulls need. This guy can defend the perimeter, finish on the break, scrap for rebounds, block shots from behind and spot up, then knockdown a jumper. On top of all that, he grew up a BULLS FAN idolizing Michael Jordan. That's why he wore #23 at Pitt. Much like Blair, I see him as a "PITTBull" on the perimeter. Again, a clever play on words, but also the truth.
I figure his NBA career puts him somewhere between Shane Battier and Michael Cooper.
So, to wrap up.
Forget "BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE" or make that "BEST POTENTIAL AVAILABLE" and GO GET yourself two "PITTBulls"....DeJuan Blair and Sam Young!!!
* It gives you VERSATILITY to match-up against any front-line style in the league.
(Also, trade BG7, post draft for Terrence Williams!!!)
wat about james johnson?
