Aran Smith – 3/25/2008

Strengths: A point guard with the ability to set teammates up and a terrific scorer … Has the quickness to get where he wants on the court … Though he is 5-11, he plays bigger than his size suggests … He is one of those players who’s body control with the ball and contact that can make your jaw drop when you see him score … He torched the legendary D.C. Barry Farms league last summer to MVP honors in front of NBA guys and greats such as John Thompson Sr, and put up 44 points against Gilbert Arenas in one game … He knows time and score situations well because of an extensive AAU career (he may have played in over 500 AAU games during his high school career).

Weaknesses: On the small side at 5-11 and lacks great exposure and experience at a high level … Also on the light side but has terrific speed … Lack of stability and discipline are the main things holding him back from getting his well deserved shot … His bouncing around from college to college (Loyola Chicago, Towson, Arkansas Tech) and inability to finish out his senior college season will be tough to overcome …

Notes: Has the talent and ability to excel at the Portsmouth Invitational, but may struggle to get an invite … His high school career took him to 5 high schools in 5 years, ending with a dominating performance at the National Prep tournament in Rhode Island … His college career has seen him start at Loyola of Chicago, transfer to Towson in Baltimore, where a State law sidelined his college career. This year at Arkansas Tech, he averaged 20 ppg, 4.5 asst, and 3 steals. He left mid year to deal with a financial situation with his family … The famed Atlanta Celtics used to fly him down to Atlanta to run the point for Wallace Prather Sr when he was in high school. Pound for pound possibly the best point guard to come out of Baltimore since Shawnta Rogers of George Washington. He finished his high school career rated just under Gerry McNamara and John Gilchrist coming out in 2002.
