NBA Comparison: Vassilis Spanoulis

Strengths: Lefty point guard with high basketball I.Q … Great feel for the game… Makes winning plays on both ends of the floor… Has a fairly quick first step… Good size for his position… A true floor general… Plays the game at his own speed… Great at leading a team in transition, can really push the pace… Skilled ball handler, has nice change of pace and direction dribbles in his arsenal… Creative with the ball in his hands… He sees plays before they happen… Great passer… Can make every pass… Has amazing court vision, can pass to any player on the floor… A Pick and Roll maestro, can find the rolling big, a 3rd player, see the weak side with ease or spot a cutter… Knows how to take a ball-screen and manipulate opposing defense… Although he is not particularly explosive, he can find ways to score on offense… Creative, crafty finisher at the rim, can score against bigger opponents despite his lack of elite athleticism… Has a semi-dependable floater that he uses from time to time… Has shown some potential as a Pull Up shooter… Has above average lateral quickness… Competitive on ball defender… Smart, with good defensive footwork, can find ways to stay in front of his player… Solid at going over screens in Pick and Roll defense… Puts hands on the ball when defends the ball… Good help defender, anticipates plays and jumps to passing lanes and makes steals

Weaknesses: A below average athlete by NBA standards… Has just a quick, not explosive first step… Just an OK leaper, has some problems finishing at the rim against elite length/athleticism… Needs the ball in his hands to be effective… Can’t create his own shot from stand still, needs a ball screen to be able to create opportunities… Jump shot is a major question mark… Below average 3-point shooter in FIBA’s line, which is closer than the NBA line… Shooting in the low 60% from the free throw line makes things worse… Streaky Pull Up shooter for now… Below average Spot Up shooter… He is crafty and finds ways to score, but could have major problems against Drop defense at the next level and could be even more limited playing off the ball… At times he is too focused on passing the ball, looking passive on offense… Has some problems when he is forced to drive to his right, really wants to go left… Lack of elite athleticism and length hurts him on defense… Explosive guards can find ways to explore his weaknesses and blow by him… Has some problems chasing players around screens… Close out defense still needs some work… Needs to work on his defensive rotations …

Overall: Juan Nunez is a flamboyant point guard with great feel for the game… A true floor general and a Pick and Roll maestro, has proved that can run a team and has a fearless approach to the game… He has shown encouraging signs in Pull Ups from mid-range, but he is generally a streaky shooter off the dribble and an average shooter in Spot Ups, which could create spacing issues… As things stand now, he needs to improve considerably as a 3-point shooter in every situation (Pull Up, Catch and Shoot, Spot Up) to be able to have a consistent role… If he doesn’t improve as a shooter, then his limitations could affect his playing time and role
