Matthew Maurer – 3/4/2007

Strengths: Atsurs vast game experience both internationally and collegiate give him a great edge Possesses NBA three point range with regularity Fundamentally sound player with a great understanding of the game Makes very good court decisions, high basketball IQ Has a lot of leadership qualities to lead a team Controls tempo and does a great job of staying cool under fire which helps keep his teammates focus Ball handling has improved greatly, he has no problem handling tight defensive pressure Has decent size for the point guard position Solid finisher in transition and does a great job leading the fast break Unselfish attitude, consistently looks for teammates on every play Defensively he plays the passing lanes very well for steals Despite his injury, Atsurs mental toughness and intensity keeps him focused Excellent free throw shooter who is very clutch on the line with a game hanging in the balance

Weaknesses: Defensively Atsurs lateral quickness isnt terrible but will need some improvement in order to effectively defend NBA point guards There are times when he plays his man overly-aggressive leading to quick fouls While his court vision is solid at the college level it isnt exceptional by NBA standards Lacks the explosive first step to consistently gain full separation from his defender Has been hampered this year by a hamstring injury which has curtailed his development Atsur is a decent athlete but is far from being on an elite level at his position Can be a streaky shooter from behind the three point line Despite his progress this year, Atsur will be viewed by some as a combo guard disguised as a point guard Doesnt do a good job of attacking the defense and drawing fouls Struggles to penetrate in the lane due to injury and lack of quickness This really becomes apparent in a half court set where his inability to drive and dish is exploited
