Joshua Motenko – 5/17/2006

Strengths: Your prototype small forward, Bruno can do a little of everything. His fundamental skills on offense and defense are all very solid. He has a good handle and uses his left hand well. He has a soft shot with a relaxed release and good range. He protects and controls his body very well when finishing at the hoop. Hes a tough defender C always keeping his body between his man and the basket C and doesnt get caught gambling on steals. He has a mature body for his age, has good strength in his legs, and a decent wingspan. He plays smart, and is extremely coachable. One of Brunos most subtle but impressive skills is his passing ability. He has a great eye for when and where to pass the ball. You can tell he knows where he wants to receive the ball and thus puts it there for his teammates. He plays with recognition of the flow of the offense, but knows how to step up whenever his team needs him. He moves intelligently without the ball, and likes to slip through the defense the moment they start sleeping to get open or crash the boards. He told me he prides himself in his offensive rebounding ability. He sticks his nose into every loose ball situation and seems quite often to be in the right place at the right time. Amazingly, he is still only 16 years old, and though he is introverted off the court, he is very mature and confident on it. He is a genuinely nice kid, and certainly gets the most out of his natural abilities.

Weaknesses: He has the type of game and build for the SF position in the NBA, but Bruno would help himself out tremendously by growing another couple inches because he`s not a super athlete. He probably does not have the athleticism to play SG at the next level. Bruno plays smart, but his reaction time is a half-step slow. He does not have the best one-on-one skills, and thus sometimes has trouble taking his man to the basket off the bounce. His body needs more improvement, as hes been lifting for only a year.

Notes: Bruno will participate in 2006 Basketball Without Borders Americas Camp in July in Puerto Rico.
