NBA Comparison: Matt Bonner

Aran Smith – 2/7/2006

Strengths: A true warrior, one of the toughest and hardest working players in all of college basketball … His attitude and toughness rubs off on teammates making him a great bench player for the league … Really gives tremendous effort battling for every loose ball and fighting for position no matter who the opponent is … Very good rebounder, knows how to establish position and uses his long arms to snatch boards … Has battled through a number of injuries (had arthroscopic knee surgery in 2004) and shows tremendous heart … A clutch player, steps up in big situations … An underrated three point shooter, has very good touch and range with consistency from 18-20 feet … Intermediate jumpshot is very solid … Some of his skills such as shooting outside have not been truly utilized at Texas because he’s been asked to play inside … A very good defender who even gets a fair amount of blocked shots … An underrated athlete, deceptively agile … Decent free throw shooter and does a good job of getting to the line …

Weaknesses: Not a real athletic player, but solid … Lacks great size or explosiveness … At 6-8 he’s undersized for the power forward position … Foot speed is average … Has never put up eye popping stats, but his team is a lot more effective when he’s playing … Showed more mobility coming out of high school, he was a top 20-25 recruit but injuries seem to have slowed his speed and quickness in the open floor … Lacks the versatility to be anything other than a power forward …
