Matthew Maurer – 3/11/2007

Strengths: Traore is a solid athlete with good quickness and leaping ability Mobility is excellent for a player his size Has the body to continue to put on weight comfortably and not lose any athletic ability Does a great job of getting himself wide in the post to enable guards a big target to pass into Ball handling ability is solid as its not uncommon for him to gather the ball from the top of the key and take his man off the dribble Fundamentally he understands how the value of keeping the ball high in the post Possesses good hands enabling him to catch most passes with few problems Rebounding potential is excellent as he is able to box out well as well as snare balls out of position Shows good touch around the basket as he is able to finish with both hands Post footwork isnt exceptional but is good for his age and experience level Excellent finisher around the basket where he excels at catching passes off dishes from guards Uses his quickness well for fast execution in the post Physically Traore has many of the qualities of a quality shot blocker with a long wingspan and quick leaping ability Body control is superb for a player his size Overall potential is impressive

Weaknesses: Despite all his physical gifts, Traore lacks great shot blocking instincts Plays the game with a carefree demeanor, displaying a lack of intensity Loses confidence and focus rather easily if his shots arent failing Offensively his back to the basket skills are unrefined and are quite limited Some have questioned his maturity, work ethic and desire to improve Post defense remains average at best as he allows most defenders to set up in the lane This could be do to his upper body strength being underdeveloped Can be a little foul prone as he can get caught biting on pump fakes Free throw shooting is poor to say the least Must continue to expand his range as he is limited as he is comfortable solely around the basket Doesnt do a great job of recognizing double teams Post passing has improved but remains a detriment Has been slowed a bit by a foot injury this past season, which raises some concerns about durability Physical opponents can frustrate him some, but he’s far from a soft player Doesnt do a great job of creating contact to draw fouls from opposing players
