NBA Comparison: Todd Fuller

Aran Smith – 1/18/2008

Strengths: Aussie bigman with a good offensive feel and skill set … Not pretty but effective. Great attitude and a strong work ethic and desire to improve … High effort guy. Maximizes his abilities … Has an array of effective post moves … He’s more athletic and quicker than he appears … He’s 6-11 with a big wingspan, making him effectively a 7 footer, and enhancing his athleticism … Strong frame and has a willingness to bang inside … Very effective scoring in the low block, using his size and strength to overpower smaller college centers … Excellent touch on his shot and finishes well after contact … He obviously won’t have the same scoring success at the NBA level, but some of what makes him succesful at Nebraska will make him effective against bigger and stronger post players … Has a soft set of hands, allowing him to gather rebounds and post passes, also helps on tip ins … Has developed into a defensive presence and a quality shot blocker at the college level (2 bpg) … Shows good anticipation and improvement all around defensively (1.3 spg) … Has done a good job of limiting his turnovers, a problem that plagued him before this season …

Weaknesses: A plodder. Not a very quick or fluid athlete, slow running the floor … Somewhat mechanical. Lacks great fluidity in his movements and better in the half court than transition … Doesn’t have quick or great explosiveness … Lateral foot speed is below average at the NBA level … His style fits in better with the NBA of yesteryear … Had a bigger impact scoring in his junior season than his senior (18.5 – 16.3) though his FG% has risen … His free throw shooting has dipped in his senior year (59%) but he’s proven that he can consistently shoot from the line (68%) …
