With the 41st pick in the Ultimate NBA Re-Draft, the Houston Rockets select… George Gervin out of Eastern Michigan!!!
With the 42nd pick in the Ultimate NBA Re-Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks select… Russell Westbrook out of UCLA!!!

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1casHMxXTupoimdrA_bSoZPW5djfv2F4eGr0-xofuEDc/edit?usp=sharing

In an attempt to get more votes, I waited an extra day to post results, that resulted in one extra vote… So I will continue to do it daily, and I’ll leave it up to you users to get more people on here. So… let’s get some votes!!!

We did have a better turnout this time though with 17 votes… So hopefully it’s an upward trend!!!

The Mavericks/Hawks are now on the clock…

Oh Canada – I think they’re only going to get better. Guy higher up the first round have less weaknesses to cover so it’s easier to take the best player available. And thanks to the snake draft, I think it’s going to be fr easier to build a ‘big 3’ – I think by the time were choosing MJs teammates, there’s going to be two great players left!

moving onto my picks – I want pippen to remain a second banana, and the clear best player available is George Mikan – 6x all nba first team, 5x champ, 3x scoring leader. So he’s my pick for the mavs.

with Barkley, I think ohcanada has nailed it – Leonard can play the 3 and guard the 4 if necessary. So he’s my pick for the Hawks.

incidentally – come on guys, that Westbrook pick was awful! Westbrook plays best uptempo, David Robinson is the exact opposite. And totally different personalities too. This screams team explosion and midseason trade…!

Harden with Pippen, Leonard with Barkley. I know everyone loves to hate on Harden in this forum, but his season last year was better than any season by anyone still available by win shares, including George Gervin. Truthfully, Gervin, Dantley, Alex English, any other available high scoring wing all played terrible defense. Harden is also a better passer than all of those guys. He is 17th all time in win shares per 48 minutes, sandwiched between Oscar and the Mailman. I am excluding Neil Johnston, who played in the 1950s.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/ws_per_48_career.html

Bob McAdoo and Connie Hawkins had comparable peak value, but their careers peaked in the diluted era before the ABA-NBA merger.

Mavs get Gary Payton to team up with Pippen.  Great defensive duo.

Hawks grab Dominique Wilkins to team up with Barkley.

Of the guys left, Dave cowens, or guys available in future rounds – in an uptempo team, I’m not prioritising my centre spot.

…or if he’d lasted 10 more picks, Bill Russell’s celtics were one of the fastest paced teams around – the man himself was a great athlete. Swap cousys fundamentals with westbrooks sheer explosiveness, and things could get ugly

Oscar is going to have to be the perfect fit with Bill Russell, it has to be a no brainer bracuse he will still e there, and will be by far the biggest steal of the draft.

The Mavs after their first round pick of Pippin, look to build a defensive juggernaut. They consider Frazier and Payton at PG, Rodman at PF and Alonzo Mourning at C. Rodman doesn’t offer enough on offense, and while Mourning might be a bit of reach here, a top center is a necessity with so many already drafted.

The Hawks are built around the dynamic but rotund Charles Barkley, they decide to go for a floor general to get him the ball and provide a perimeter threat and defense. Walt Frazier fits the bill here.

    Mavs – Mourning

    Hawks – Frazier.

@victor: i was thinking Mourning would be a great fit with Thomas, but thought it was too much of a reach, but centers are needed so badly…
