BallerScriptParticipantWith the 1st pick in the 2008 NBA Draft the Chicago Bulls select…
This is not based on team need but based off who is most valuable to a team/franchise.
Best Options:
- Russell Westbrook
- Derrick Rose
- Kevin Love
- DeAndre Jordan
- Serge Ibaka
- Brook Lopez
- Goran Dragic
- Roy Hibbert
- Nic Batum
- Eric Gordon

OhCanada-ParticipantBeasley and Mayo were elite options at the time. Mayo got jaded and Miami’s nightlife and extremely strict coaching at the time really led Beasley in the wrong direction. Had either player been put in different position as rookies who knows what position they would be in now.
I truly believe if Beasley was drafted by a team that was willing to give him minutes according to his talent level and let him grow out of his boneheaded nature he would be considered an elite player today. Sort of like Cousins and Sacramento. That hasn’t worked out too well for the Kings although today it seems like they have a bright future with Cuz. Although I maybe wrong as he is still quite unpredictable.

wonzi_bellsParticipantMeh. On talent, Beasley did get the minutes and still showed that he’s just not that good. He’s not "he-should-be-out-of-the-league" bad, his knuckleheadedness did him in on that when he found himself rosterless, but I don’t think he was ever going to be a franchise type.
This is a guy who’s one dimensional in that all he offers you is scoring. Once he got to the NBA, he was too undersized and lost the rebounding edge he had in college. The guy average 14.1 rebounds per 36 in Kansas St when he was facing likewise 6’8 and 6’9 big men in college, who are not as big, stong and athletic as NBA bigs and dropped all the way down to 7.1 per 36 throughout his career in the NBA. Also, he never could defend and had no position to guard once he got into the league.

NBAjunkie81Participantbut you are right that he looked like an elite level talent – but the NBA is whole different animal, especially if all you want to do is play X-box & smoke that chronic….

trelos6ParticipantRose was the best prospect then and has arguably had the best career of the lot so far.
One could argue if Thibs rested the Bulls starters more, Noah, Rose and Deng would not all be so worn out right now.

RickSlickCHIParticipantWhen D Rose was drafted. High expectations was put on him first off he was the number 1 pick and he was from chicago. He over seeded those expectations. Became a all star and MVP at a very early age. I think what went wrong with chicago was they didn’t take enough time to invest in good players to build around him. Before he was drafted Chicago hadn’t had a true all star since MJ and Pip. 10 years 98 to 08. D Rose turn heads so fast that The city of chicago and Bulls made him their savior. But fell to realize he couldn’t do it on his own. Causing it to wear him down. People fell to forget D Rose came from a HS and college team that had great players around him where he could produce and not get over played. I wish the Bulls would of took OKC’S approach and built around their raising star instead of just relying on him like the Bulls did D Rose. I’m glad he has some help now. His absence has help the Bulls build other Allstars and role players.

Robb_CParticipantHe’s done that to himself not having enough talent, he likes being the guy.. That’s why the Bulls and Melo fell through, Roses problem has always been his conditioning.. He hasn’t been in a weight room since the NBA and his body broke down.. I’ve followed his career since freshmen year in HS.. Hes always had health issues.

T RexI think they tried with drafting Jeff Teague’s little brother Marquis Teague but he didn’t pan out.
There was a run on point guards just before the Bulls picked this year, and Portis was too good a value to reach on somebody like Tyus Jones, the only other PG drafted before the mid-second round.

wonzi_bellsParticipantThe Bulls didn’t need to go into an OKC-style rebuild once they drafted Rose.
I mean, it was surprising that they even got Rose. Coming into that season, they were supposed to an up-and-coming playoff team and they had won 49 games the season before. That 2007-08 season was an unexpected collapse. Also, they already had top lottery picks coming in, even though they were a playoff team for three straight seasons under Skiles because of the terrible New York Knicks’ Eddy Curry trade. They got one very bad pick out of it, Tyrus Thomas and another guy by the name of Joakim Noah. Also, they had a 25 year-old Ben Gordon and a 23 year-old Luol Deng when they drafted Rose. So, they didn’t need to get young.
And even with that era almost reaching near a decade now, the Bulls have still been able to get effective young players throughout with Gibson, Butler and Mirotic. Youth hasn’t been the problem for the Bulls. The problem has simply been Rose’s injury history.
Plus, Bulls fans went through the Baby Bulls era only three years before Rose. I don’t wish that kind of losing on any team, so management wasn’t ever going to go back to trying to lose.

Robb_CParticipantDerrick Rose. He’s the hometown kid.. Former MVP, hes obviously been plagued with injuries the last couple of years but he still has lots to prove.
