OhCanada-ParticipantIm reading everywhere Raps are going to make an offer at Chandler. Raps only have 4.2 million to offer but are trying to find Barbosa a new home to offer a bit more money to Wilson.
I know the Raptors are going to once again overpay for a player if a deal would be completed though. They have to do something about that inconsistant SF position. James Johnson played well tonight but is a very inconsistant producer. Chandler is 24-years old , averaged roughly 15-pppg, 5-rpg, 2-apg, 1bpg. 1-spg and further growth wiithin his game would not be a huge shocker.
He fits in well in the Raps gameplay. Some people would rather see their team tank although I feel like this draft is so close from #3 to #10 so if signing Chandler means you draft Rivers instead of Barnes. I would take Chandler/Rivers over Barnes any day.

NashyMingParticipantI would be really disappointed on BC if he overpays Wilson Chandler just to get him signed with the Raptors.
Wilson Chandler is a good starting caliber player but the Raptors do not have a good enough team to take on someone like him on a big contract. If the contract is good around 6mil a year or so, then it may work out, but I still wouldn’t do it.
The Raptors need a true rebuild instead of a patch job.
I would have
1) Traded Calderon for expiring, smaller contract and a 1st round pick.
e.g. Calderon to Indiana for TPE and 1st – this deal can improve Pacers to make a deeper playoff run while not really affecting the cap situation
or Calderon to Utah for Harris and 1st (not likely) – Harris had been pretty bad this year, and Calderon is a better fit as a pass-first PG
or Calderon to Portland for Felton and 1st (not likely) – Felton had been horrible this year. Calderon can provide a stable play at PG as they have good players to pass the ball to.
2) Traded Barbosa for expiring, TPE, young player or a late 1st round pick
e.g. Barbosa to Lakers for Darius Morris and TPE
or Barbosa to Lakers for Darius Morris and Luke Walton and 1st – Barbosa can help bringing scoring off the bench and some guard play
3) Traded one of Bargnani, Amir Johnson, Ed Davis
Bargnani shows improvements this season but had been out for a while (suspect out for tanking purpose), so if only would deal him if the price is right (high potential young player, early 1st round pick)
Ed Davis didn’t get too many chances to play so far, but he could still be a very solid big man. I would try to keep him unless I can get a top 10 pick in return.
Amir Johnson – as much as he’s a fans favorite, his contract is big compares to his production. I would try to trade him for expiring contract, TPE, and a 1st.
e.g. Amir to Hawks for Hinrich and 1st – With Hortford out, the Hawks would need another solid big man. Hinrich is pretty useless to the Hawks at the moment.

frogmanParticipantI really don’t think signing Wilson Chandler is going to make any team jump seven places in the rankings.

thparadoxParticipantAgree with NashyMing except about Amir. Amir easily earns his contract with the way he played the last 2 years. He’s had a poor first half this season, mainly because his turnover percentage DOUBLED. I don’t expect that to continue.
Ed Davis is simply not going to net anyone better. He’s fine for what he is… a young prospect. If he develops great, if not then he leaves when his contract runs out.
Overpaying Wilson Chandler is an AWFUL decision for a franchise in this stage of the life cycle. He would sell a few more tickets in the next couple years.. but would sentence the raptors to mediocrity. Worst place for an nba franchise to be.

FellyBaby905Participantlooks like we are not trading barbosa for cap space…..i think we should and we should get wilson chandler by offering a 4 year 32 mil deal, he wont really help this year but who cares, next year is the year to worry about…..however it looks like we are done with pursuing him and he should be back with denver within a few days
