The Pg position is so deep nowadays but if he plays like he did against the bulls and devolops a consistant reliable jumper he could be in the 9-10 range.

^^^ Damn, beat me to it! I think he’s got the same chances of cracking the top 10 as Darren Collison, Jrue, Ty Lawson, and Eric Maynor. But yeah the top6 of D-Rose, D-Will, CP3, Nash, Westbrook, and Rondo is pretty set as of right now.

As a Hawk fan, I don’t think he has to become top 10, can he? Absolutely, but will it happen, who knows. PG is literally the deepest position in the NBA right now, but I think if he gets around 36-38 minutes he can easily give 12-15 PPG, 5-7 Assists, and 1-2 Steal, also the occasional mini-Lebron chasedown (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW-VbREkibQ.)

Not next year, he showed something in the playoffs last year, but going from a guy starting and putting up pretty good numbers for 6 games to a guy who is a top 10 player in his position in the span of a few months is a bit of a stretch.

I showed Devin some love here (http://www.nbadraft.net/forum/not-quite-elite-players)

as far as Teague is concerned, if he makes it to top 10-pg status, I am doubtful it will be with the Hawks….they just havent shown the confidence in him to even experiment with him as a starter.  He has only started out of necessity thusfar.  therefore to answer your question about him reaching this level next season (this season assuming you mean if lockout is resolved)…..NO.

I’m a Teague supporter, but he has work to do before he can even be consider a full-time starter.

He’s not the purest of point guards, IMO, I think if Jamal Crawford ends up leaving he’d be a great guy to bring off the bench for offensive purposes and keep Hinrich as your starter.

Teague just needs opportunity and he’ll get it.

I’d start him over Hinrich this upcoming season. I think they should just hand him the keys and let him play through his mistakes. He’s never been great at running a team, but I thought he looked good vs the Bulls.

Yeah, at times he was the guy getting buckets vs. Chicago when the rest of his team was struggling to get buckets.  As a starter I think he’d be a 15-17 ppg player next season, but like you said his playmaking is what needs some work.  I guess the good thing about Hinrich is that he can play both guard positions and is a better playmaker than most combo guards in the league.  He and Rose playing together in Chicago was actually pretty effective at times.  Whether they start him or not, having a guy like Hinrich on the roster would definately make it easier when Teague is struggling to make plays.

Teague has WAY too much competition to crack the top 10. I would rank all of these PG’s ahead of him at this point: Rondo, Ray Felton, Brandon Jennings, Mike Conley, Jrue Holiday, Chris Paul, Tony Parker, Derrick Rose, Ty Lawson, Darren Collison, Westbrook, Steph Curry, John Wall, Tyreke Evans (for those who consider him a pg, I do). and don’t forget the the Veterans like Steve Nash,  Andre Miller, Jason Kidd, and Chauncey Billups.

Everybody’s top 10 PG’s list usually has only the young guys and I don’t think JT has shown much to suggest that he will be passing up the Vets, and he has to crack that before even thinking about breaking through all these young up and coming PG’s in the rankings

Yea, I mean you can put any PG that’s getting burn over him pretty much, because Teague hasn’t played a whole lot, but he has better physical tools than some of those PG’s you named, he’s got all the potential to be a top 10 PG, but will he ever get there is the question.

I think physical tools is about all that he does have though. Im not saying he’s not good, but I don’t think he’s more skilled as a PG than anybody I listed, thats why he was kind of playing the off the bench energy and scoring role for atlanta all season. He has a Monta Ellis type of potential which is really good but will be hard to find a role on a team with, especially as a PG

Lol of course he’s not more SKILLED at the 1 he’s a 2 trapped in a 1’s body, he averaged damn near 23 ppg at Wake before he cooled down and played the 2 until Ish Smith got hurt, but he can ever learn and master that 1 position watch out.

I don’t understand why Coach Woodson and Coach Drew won’t just let Teague develop. He showed against the Bulls and in spurts all through the season that he’s a starting PG, at least on the Hawks. He’s crazily quick and a great athlete, but he’s not a great playmaker for others at all and he’s a set shooter. He also is a developing defender. I think he definitely has flaws, but the guy can be a good starter if given a chance. Top 10 PG though? Doubtful. He could have a great season down the line, but I doubt he’ll be a true top 10 PG. And it definitely won’t be next season.

Agreed, just far too stacked of a position these days. Until he develops as playmaker, I don’t see him entering the top 10. Seems like he’s definitely shown enough to get the job next year. I just worry that he’s going to be given the starting nod and pulled in favor of Hinrich at the first sign of trouble.
