The news that Cavs GM Danny Ferry and Suns GM Steve Kerr are in heated discussions about bringing Amar’e Stoudemire to the Cleveland Cavaliers is nothing new. The deal has been held up on two sticking points the entire time—Phoenix wants J.J. Hickson included in the deal, and they also want Cleveland to take back Jason Richardson. The Cavs have been naturally hesitant to do either of things, hoping instead to do a straight-up swap for Zydrunas Ilgauskas, but Kerr knows he’s got to get the most out of his best young player. Cap space alone isn’t going to get it done.

But in the hours before Sunday’s All-Star Game, ESPN.com’s Chris Broussard is reporting that these two teams are inching closer and closer to finding some middle ground, and that a deal could be imminent in the coming days. The turning point in this deal could be Cleveland’s sudden willingness to include Hickson, which they’ve made it very clear they weren’t previously willing to do. Ferry wouldn’t include him in a trade for Troy Murphy or Andre Iguodala, but Stoudemire is a different level of player.

A Smattering of Trade Rumors: With just a week until the trade deadline, rumors are starting to heat up. …

    ——————————————————————————–

View Joel Brigham Archive Now it’s just up to Phoenix to decide if this is enough value for Stoudemire. They’re trading the guy they’ve long thought would be the future of their franchise for about $12 million in cap relief and J.J. Hickson. Of all the deals they’ve been offered for Amar’e over the last few years, that doesn’t sound like it’d be among even the top five most lucrative offers.

But at the end of the day, the Suns don’t want to lose a guy that talented for nothing, which could very well happen this summer should Stoudemire opt out of his contract and explore free agency—something he probably would do had he remained in Phoenix. Grabbing a promising young power forward like Hickson is better than just the cap relief alone, but will Kerr decide that he’s enough to sway him towards trading the West’s starting All-Star center?

This particular story is coming to a culmination and could be the second blockbuster deadline deal of 2010 if Phoenix agrees to it. It’s in Steve Kerr’s court now, and his job could depend on the decision he ultimately makes.-hoopsworld.com

if this deal gets done i say its 99 percent newyork doesnt get lebron or amare

Is The Suns getting a 1st rounder as well?

If Cleveland gets Amare, I won’t be upset as a Knick fan because I believe we will makes moves in 2011. I been preaching it since I got here! At best? We might lure Joe Johnson and keep D-Lee

I think its gonna happen, The Cavs execs arent going to make this pass them up..

A frontcourt of Lebron, Amar’e, and Shaq is gonna be tough to match up with

Amare is overrated. Go ahead and blast me. He has no post moves, and is a poor on the ball defender. And if you put a hand in his face his perimeter game falls way off. Honestly JJ Hickson plays with more fire, and dont underestimate the value that Z has had on that team this year, the guy is automatic from outside. And with that said I personally as Ive said here before hope the Knicks dont get Lebron. The dude makes my skin crawl.

Is not overrated. He has post moves. He is a big time scorer with or without Steve Nash. Yes, he’s not the best defender, but he can be a very good defender when he tries.

if cleveland takes richardson too, who else would they give up?
Ilgauskas, Hickson, West, Moon, Gibson for stoudemire and richardson?
cavs wouldnt have much of a bench, but would have a hell of a starting line up..

I like stoudemire not only for this year but if they are able to resign him, which shouldn’t be hard if they give him his money, would sure up the center position for the future. As of right now the cavs have 38 year old shaq and 34 year old Z which doesn’t present a good future. It is a lot easier to get a good PF then a good C and amare can play both.

I would assume the cavs are giving at least one pick with this trade and money to buy out Z.

The Suns don’t care if they get back value for J-Rich, they’re just trying to dump his salary.

so who else would the cavs send over just to dump salary? thats a lot of salary to match, like 29 million, so they can’t just give them “salary dump” players cause they dont have that many, so some key bench players will have to leave..

If this happens for Cleveland, they are getting to the Finals. Amare is the 2nd scorer the Cavs need, and they Varejao to compliment him. Mo Williams becomes a 3rd scorer, which he is. I think this move is perfect for them to get over the hump.

i think its a good move but the nba has shown us that there isnt a sure thing. if players dont play well together( shaq and amare wasnt the force we thought even when shaq was healthy). chances are that it will work but its definately a wait and see thing and not a sure thing.

stoudemire wont look any worse because playing with lebron is kinda like playing with nash because they will both create easy shots and scoring oppurtunities for him.. he might even look better cause lebron might make him play defense..lol..

What about Nash? He deserves to go to a title competing team instead of being left with the suns

If anybody should average 20 and 10 in the NBA its Stoudemire, but he doesnt…you know why? Cause he doesnt play hard all the time. Hes 6’10/11, and a freak of an athlete. HE would have the same stats as LaMarcus Aldridge if he was in a different offense, except with less rebounds. Yea he’ll put up numbers with the Cavs, but so could I when my man leaves me wide open to help on Lebron.

To match the money that stoudemire and richardson get the cavs might resign wally (they still have his bird rights). I don’t think sending shaq instead is an option, he is to involved in the cavs offence and the suns don’t want him back. If this happens it will be an exciting time for the cavs.

If the trade goes down like this

    Cleveland Gets:
    Amar’e Stoudemire
    Jason Richardson

    Phoenix Gets:
    JJ Hickson
    Big Z
    Jamario Moon
    Delonte West
    Daniel Gibson

Cleveland’s Starting 5 would be Mo Williams-Jason Richardson- Lebron James- Amar’e Stoudemire-Shaq. With a bench of Anthony Parker, Anderson Varejao, Jawad Williams, and Leon Powe, and say Big Z if the suns buy him out, Big Z gets to rest for a month not a bad deal. He just can’t say he is going back to Cleveland like Jerry Stackhouse did. I think if the Cavs do this they will give the Lakers a real tough time.

The Cavs can sign and trade Wally Szczerbiak to include him in the deal, then the Suns can get two expiring contracts and the Cavs do not need to include any bench players that they want to keep while the Suns may not even want to get the math work.

I think that’s what the cavs are planning to do if they are willing to take on Richardson’s contract.

They got an owner who’s willing to spend while the Suns would trade away Amare and JR for 2 expiring contract, JJ Hickson, and hopefully at least a draft pick.

I certainly think the Suns can do better with other teams though, but I don’t think Steve Kerr and Sarver are capable of getting a better deal.

    knicks 82 your’e right amare is overrated…

hes only averaging 21 and 8 and 1 block on the FASTEST offense in the league… if hes traded to cleveland i bet his stats look something like 17 and 7…

i really dont think cleveland should make this deal… hickson could be better than that for them…

and gregoden8 amare’s nubers will have nothing to do if hes with or without nash.. it simply has to do with how many possesions the cavs get compared to the suns… if there’s 20 less possesions… he just isnt going to have as many scoring opprotunities

so how exactly is he overrated?..no one is saying he’s the best big man in the game or a alltime great so im not understanding the overrated part?…and didnt joe johnson also play in that offense?..and he sure sucked once he got out of that offense and went to atlanta huh. amare is a very good pf with or without nash. when they play half court ball he still does work because he’s good. so because he’s not getting the numbers some peopel expect that makes him overrated?..dont get me wrong i agree he should be averaging more rebounds then he does. mayb e he’s lazy maybe he just can do any better and the expectations for him too is too high..i dont know. what i do know is as a laker fan i dont want to see him go to the cavs. we have a hard enough time with them without him. the good thing is they still have to get through boston orlando or atlanta in the playoffs, which will not be easy even with amare
