Why do most mocks have Detroit taking Al Farouq Aminu if Greg Monroe and DeMarcus Cousins are off of the board. Detroit clearly needs a bigman that can clog the paint and/or space out the floor. They already have guys in Austin Daye and Jonas Jerebko who can already play either forward spot. Why would they go for a player that is similar to them to when guys like Hassan Whiteside and it may be a bit of a stretch Cole Aldrich are still on the board?

I agree everybody is saying that they think he can play the 4 he can’t. I believe they are taking Udoh, Aldrich, or Davis if Monroe and Cousins are off the board.

they feel he would be the Power Forward of the future because of his size and really large wing span but if they pick him it shows that Joe D has given up on Charlie V which he says he hasnt yet.

On another note, if Udoh is selected i’m pretty sure Wallace is back to help teach Udoh because Udoh dad and Big Ben are close friends

but i don’t think aminu helps detroit much – they might take him as the “BPA”, although i am convinced he’s not the BPA

they’ll try their damndest to move up to #4 for cousins…alternatively, they could trade down for aldrich/patterson who would be a welcome addition to that team (or just say to hell with it and pick their guy)

I’m thinking the Pistons might use this pick as a way to get a more polished C. they might covet. (Whom, IDK, maybe Dalembert, or Ratliff or Dampier or Haywood or McGee or Kaman or Biedrins) Alot of teams covet a player like Alabi. I agree with you that Alabi would not really fit into their system, but I also think that Whiteside, Aldrich or Udoh is a bit of a stretch at 7. I know that Dumars likes to pick surprise picks, so he could go for Whiteside, but I think it would be smarter if he picked Alabi and used him as trade bait for a polished C. whom he might covet even more than he likes Cousins.

Aldrich is the only pick that makes sense if they can’t get Monroe or Cousins, but I don’t see Detroit taking him. They are rumored to be interested in Aminu, but I can’t say I understand why.

Remember this is the same team that signed Ben Gordon to a long-term contract with Rodney Stucky and Richard Hamilton already on the team. They clearly don’t have a problem stockpiling talent at one position.

that if joe d decides with aminu then he’s going to use him as trade bait to Minnesota for him and hamilton for jefferson and one of their later 1st round picks if joe goes for udoh then i think hes going to try to also get aldrich somehow just in case udoh doesn’t pan out
